### 1/5 — no good for fast moving objects

Not sure if it’s due to my location that im trying to use the app (i.e. not being in the US) but i tried to use the app to track the ISS tonight so i could know when to look in the sky, and i ended up missing the whole thing because apparently the data in the app was out of date by 10 minutes! Sure thats fine for the big celestial bodies that barely move but for a fast moving object like the ISS where the window of visibility is 5 minutes or less that’s rubbish!

This is a pretty slick app, guiding you around the night sky. It will name what you’re pointing at, or let you search for something (a certain star or planet, say) and point you to the right spot. Cool. 

But it can be disoriented. This morning before dawn it had constellations in the wrong places. I’m in Aotearoa New Zealand, so the ecliptic is in the northern sky. Yet it was claiming planets were in the south. Meanwhile the N, E, S, W tags were spot on, so it wasn’t a compass problem. More like it didn’t understand the southern hemisphere. Then suddenly, pop! It lined itself up correctly. Can’t explain, but it leaves me wondering whether I can rely on it. 

Now off to find Matariki (Pleiades) for Matariki Day!
