Many people have commented on letting the display throw everything at you that is in the sky. I believe they developed this precisely to allow you command of the space object catalog without being overwhelmed. As a person becomes more comfortable with looking for objects of interest, the intuitiveness comes in with it. It can be a parlor game, or a tool for more interesting insight.
