## What is Slate?

Budgeting without a subscription, a bank login, or an ad. Your data stays in your iCloud. Pay once, own it.

YOUR DASHBOARD, YOUR WAY
Build a home screen of widgets: balances, what's left in a budget, cash flow, top spending, upcoming bills, and transactions to review. Filter each by account, category, payee, or period. Arrange it separately on Mac and iPhone; your widgets sync.

MINDFUL, NOT AUTOMATIC
Bank-linking apps guess. Slate doesn't. You enter each transaction yourself, and that habit is what makes you notice where your money goes. On Mac, type right in the ledger, Tab between cells, do math in amount cells (60/3, 12.50+8.25), and let autocomplete fill payees and categories.

BUDGETS THAT MAKE SENSE
Set a monthly amount per category and see what's left all month. Split one transaction across many categories so your budgets stay accurate to the dollar.

SEE THE FULL PICTURE
Budget, category, payee, and cash-flow reports. On Mac, filter any report and export to CSV.

NEVER MISS A BILL
Schedule recurring rent, subscriptions, and paychecks, and see what's coming up next.

RECONCILE ON YOUR TERMS (MAC)
Import your bank's statement file and Slate matches transactions and flags anything missing. No bank connection, no middleman.

ALL YOUR ACCOUNTS, ALL YOUR BOOKS
Checking, savings, cards, and cash, with fast transfers between them. Keep personal and business separate in Folios, and share a folio so everyone sees the same picture.

PRIVATE BY DESIGN
Slate collects no data. Everything lives in your iCloud and syncs across your Apple devices. Back up and restore anytime.

TRULY NATIVE
Built from scratch for iPhone and Mac, not a stretched phone app.

PAY ONCE. OWN IT.
30 days free, then a single purchase for every feature and every future update. No subscription, ever.

### 5/5 — This is the best finance app ever!

*2026-10-06*

I can’t begin to express how awesome this app is. Not only is it user friendly, but the cost-benefit is outstanding! My biggest pet peeve is paying for a subscription to a budgeting app (what irony 🙄), and the low, one time cost of this app makes it so worth it (honestly, it would be worth it even if it was a subscription). Seriously, you have to try this app out!

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 3.4 — 2026-11-01

• New-user experience: A single three-step first run, a guided folio setup sheet with starter picks for accounts, categories and payees, and a Finish setting up checklist on the Dashboard. A coach-mark tour walks you through the app, including opening the Add Transaction form and swipe-to-split.
• Entry: One transaction form, opened from a floating + on every tab.
• Tab bar: A reworked tab bar.
• Folios: Folio icons and colors, and one folio switcher on both platforms.
• Dashboard: The widget category picker no longer jumps as you add chips.

### v3.3 — 2026-10-24

The Dashboard is now yours to build.

DASHBOARD
• Add, remove, reorder, and resize widgets, with a live preview as you set each one up. Drag a widget by its grip to move it.
• Filter widgets by account, category, payee, and period.
• New To Review and Top Spending widgets, and Balance can be tinted or solid.
• Widgets sync across your devices, and iPhone and Mac each remember their own arrangement.

### v3.1 — 2026-10-23

Splits, simplified
- The split editor has a new Fill Remaining button. One tap puts whatever is left into the last empty amount, next to Add Split and Equalize.
- The split controls are now three easy-to-tap buttons, and the balance shows beside the Category heading so nothing is squeezed.

Reports
- The Reports tabs now have clearer names: Budget, Categories, Payees and Cash Flow.

Fixes
- Starting Balance entries no longer count as spending in your budget remaining, so the Dashboard, the budget screens and the post-entry message show the same remainder as Reports.
- Starting Balance entries no longer appear in category ledgers.

### v3.0 — 2026-10-21

Budget, at a glance
- A new Budget tab in Reports on Mac and iPhone shows budgeted, spent and remaining for each category, with a progress ring.
- The Dashboard has one budget ring and a new Upcoming card. It lists the next 14 days of scheduled and future-dated transactions, with a "$ out · $ in" total.

Reports, rebuilt
- iOS Reports now use tabs and have a category filter, matching Mac.
- Income vs. Expense has a new ring header. It only shows a chart when you've picked several months.
- Reports and Dashboards count income and spending the same way everywhere. Refunds and credits reduce expenses instead of showing up as income, and transfers are left out.

Cleaner Mac layout
- Categories now live under Settings as a flat list with group headings, and every inspector shares the same layout.
- The sidebar has colored icon tiles.
- The Payees lists are reworked, with Unused and Duplicates filters, merge, and bulk delete.

More icons
- Over 300 more SF Symbols, plus Filled and Circle variants for many of them.

Fixes
- The ledger keeps your scroll position after you finish reconciling.
- Statement matching no longer shifts the report columns when a CSV has trailing commas.

Requires iOS 26 / macOS 26.

### v2.6 — 2026-10-12

Improved icon and color selection workflow
