## Newest reviews (5 of 24)

### 1/5 — Horrible

*2018-12-27*

My university is making faculty use this garbage to read applications. Does not work at all, not functional, crashes. Basically does not do what it claims to do.

### 1/5 — Just awful

*2018-10-17, version 1.5.0*

Like everything else about slate. Stodgy, user-unfriedly, and ridiculous. Deadends everywhere.

### 1/5 — Terrible App

*2018-08-13*

The mobile app is slow; when used outside the country the security measures are extremely cumbersome. It is easy to enter into an endless loop between the website and the app itself. I have been using the app for more than a year; I keep hoping that it will be fixed, but no success. The interface itself has significant defects as well. In particular the user is given only a tiny box in which to put comments on an applicant, and there doesn’t seem to be any mechanism so that a given member of an admissions committee has access to the comments of other committee members. This works fine for “clear admits” and “clear declines” but not for the significant numbers who would benefit from committee discussion.

IF YOUR UNIVERSITY IS CONSIDERING ADOPTING SLATE I SUGGEST YOU DO ALL YOU CAN TO DISSUADE THEM! Any members of an active admissions committee who travel at all, particularly outside the US, will curse the application and the university officials who adopted it.

### 1/5 — Slate is excellent. The app is pathetic.

*2018-01-19*

The worst part about the Slate system is that the website on my phone routes me to the app.... which is terrible. So in effect, Slate would prefer that I not use the tool at all on a mobile device.

### 1/5 — Ugh

*2017-07-10, version 1.2.0*

Poor functionality. Don't bother.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Not working with iPhone 16 pro

*2024-12-11*

I don’t see the reader view. Useless app.

### 1/5 — Completely unintuitive.

*2023-02-03*

It’s an admin tool made by bean counters without much understanding of what the people who use it need to get from it.

### 1/5 — Practically unusable

*2021-12-20*

We use slate for reviewing student applications. It seems like there’s no “reader” for the mobile app? There also doesn’t seem to be usable help documentation etc. Pretty terrible all around

### 1/5 — Useless

*2021-10-31*

Utterly useless. Has anyone who made this app even tried to use it?

### 1/5 — Pitiful

*2020-11-19, version 1.5.2*

No updates in over a year?

### 1/5 — Tedious

*2020-04-23*

Application review is so tedious. Complete initial review rubric. Send to next reader bin for interview...ME again. Can’t auto send email to candidate advising them to schedule interview so I have to create individual emails. Complete interview/develop planned program and complete interview rubric and send to decision bin ...ME again. No way to upload completed planned program so I have to send that out to candidate and registrar through a separate email. Uggh! Go to decision bin and complete decision rubric...send to Dean’s Office.

Would be better for reviewers with applicants to see a name and check boxes beneath:File Review, Interview/Planned Program, Decision, Applicant Decision. Stop the “bin” madness.

### 1/5 — So glitchy

*2020-02-16*

This app is so glitchy, making it very difficult to use for reviewing and scoring applications. Please fix!

### 1/5 — Just let us use the website or make a functional app

*2020-01-24*

Does not work

### 1/5 — Pure torture

*2019-02-04*

There should be negative stars to rate this app as well as Slate in general. It is a waste of bytes and electrons. I get more user friendliness and efficiency using a terminal, no wait actually using a rock and another rock is also less frustrating! To the creators please look up UX and UI on Wikipedia, maybe you learn something.

### 1/5 — Piece of crap, just like Slate

*2019-01-23*

The phone app does not allow you to run a query and interact with applications. It just sends you in a circle or crashes. It is also more confusing and inept than the online Slate, which is quite an accomplishment. But it literally does not work. There is a way to make Slate work if you are a masochist, or have nothing but time to waste.

## Most praised reviews (9 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — No, Trump is neither God nor Jesus!

*2023-07-04*

Another platform to learn but sick of the deification of Trump!
Really disgusting portraying Trump as God or Jesus! 😆😆😆

Worth a shot…

### 5/5 — Top Tier App

*2022-10-12*

Next to sliced bread, this may be the greatest app ever greated.

### 5/5 — Black screen

*2022-04-10*

Love the app, but at the moment I cannot use it. When I open the app all I have is a black screen, even after refreshing the app it won’t work. Please help

### 5/5 — Lovely App

*2017-11-07*

This app is great even with the limitations of being on a mobile device. It allows me to check things out super quickly wherever I am. Also, iPhone X support within three days of release? Incredible. Keep up the good work!

### 2/5 — Slate is an amazing tool - the app? Not so much

*2019-11-01*

Slate is a really powerful tool, and I love using it on my desktop. Unfortunately, the app is almost unusable. I am forced to re-login just about any time I click a link. It is great for checking guests in for events, but it’s impossible to do just about anything else. If anything, the app makes life as a recruiter even more difficult.

### 2/5 — Difficult to view certain items

*2019-10-24*

Looking at the Rules Editor and other items it cut things off and hides items.

### 2/5 — Horrible for reading apps

*2018-12-25*

Can’t load pages properly and loses track of where the pages are in space. Also jumps to the beginning of a tab when reader sheets are being filled out. Should be improved asap for readers!

### 2/5 — The Tortoise doesn't beat the Hare

*2017-06-09*

This application is incredibly slow and the information is too spread out for mobile devices. Not very user friendly.

### 2/5 — Still needs improvement

*2015-01-28*

I think the idea is awesome!
But to me, the whole point of having a slate mobile app, is to look up a record...maybe while I'm at a college fair and be able to easily view a file away from my office. Work on files while I'm traveling.

I feel like this is a tease.
I log in and pull up an applicant. I view a transcript, and when I hit the return tab, nothing happens...so now I have to close the app, log back in and go back to the students file.

Then if I want to evaluate the file, I have to go to slate reader...where I can't run a query to see who belongs to me in my first reads.
I have to go to slate mobile, run a query there and either export it to a pdf, excel, etc... Or take a screenshot of the list and then go back to slate reader and look for your file to add it to the queue.

When you add it to the queue, it takes forever to load...literally forever..you have to close the program and go log back in again and then the file will be in your queue.

You can't upload anything from slate reader or mobile because the app will close, so you have to go on the website and upload it that way.

These glitches aren't difficult to fix either. They are very minimal and I was hoping they would have been fixed sooner. My understanding of the slate team was that they were constantly trying to stay as up to date as possible. We just got that new look on the page and that's awesome too, but I would prefer a more efficient way to use your app. Otherwise, I find it rather pointless to have a half working app that isn't going to be updated with improvements.
