## What is SleepTap?

# SleepTap
SleepTap helps you manage sleep, wake timing, and daytime energy so you can stay sharp throughout the day. A key feature is its support for Rooster Time, which lets SleepTap preview your wake time, use that wake target in smart alarm planning, and keep iPhone and Apple Watch wake context better aligned. SleepTap also brings together Apple Watch smart alarms, Smart Stack widgets, workout tracking, sunlight reminders, nap reminders, late-night logging and alerts, wake-up reminders, and a sleep score in one app.

SleepTap is available on both iPhone and Apple Watch. The iPhone app includes all core features, while the Watch app gives you a faster way to check sleep progress, smart alarm sessions, wake context, and Smart Stack widgets when you're on the move.

The first time you open SleepTap, a setup wizard guides you through the essential data sources and permissions. You can run it again later whenever you need to update your setup.

SleepTap is currently free while I gather feedback and continue improving the app. In the future, it may become a paid product, mainly because the weather API has free-usage limits and higher usage incurs costs. I also plan to add in-app purchases in a future release.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.7.0 — 2026-09-06

• Apple Watch Smart Alarm now monitors for wakefulness continuously during its wake window, helping it respond more promptly. Alarm handoff and cancellation between Apple Watch and iPhone are more reliable too.
• Wake times and sleep reminders are better maintained in the background on iOS 26, including after you wake up or stop an alarm.
• Weather refresh and planning are more dependable across iPhone and Apple Watch. Sunlight suggestions now explain when no suitable time remains and more carefully avoid high UV, rain, strong wind, and poor air quality.
• Mood check-ins sync more reliably and appear in your diary immediately after saving.

### 1.6.3 — 2026-08-12

* Background refresh now registers earlier, so wake-time and notification schedules can continue more reliably on iOS 26.6.
* Background scheduling now uses complementary App Refresh and Processing tasks, giving wake-time and notification schedules another opportunity when one task is not run.
* After you wake up or stop the wake-up alarm, SleepTap refreshes the next wake-time and sleep-notification schedule; entering the background only restores missing requests.
* Weather and sunlight planning now use the weather-cache state and next wake window to choose the next refresh opportunity.
* Fixed the diary not updating immediately after a mood entry was saved.

### 1.6.0 — 2026-07-23

* See your nap and sunlight timers more clearly on the Lock Screen and Dynamic Island.
* Manage active sessions directly from the Live Activity: wake from a nap, or finish and cancel a sunlight session.
* Apple Watch smart alarms now respond faster and work more reliably.
* Wake-up reminders stay in sync across upcoming days.
* If sleep detection does not finish, SleepTap still keeps your wake-up reminder active.
* Finished sunlight sessions are now saved correctly in your diary.

### 1.5.0 — 2026-07-11

### 1.5.0(160)
* Wake schedule now shows where each wake time came from (your fixed schedule or Rooster Time) and whether it was used, so you can see why a day was skipped.
* If you skip the bedtime step, the wake alarm still uses your next scheduled wake time as a backup instead of going silent.
* A day is only armed once — once you've woken up (logged on iPhone, from the Watch, or by dismissing the backup alarm), the same day won't re-fire.
* Trying to change wake time while a sleep session is in progress now shows a clear "Cannot Change Wake Time" message instead of letting you save changes that wouldn't take effect.
* Naps now end exactly at the planned time, even if the app was killed and relaunched later, so your Apple Health nap record won't be accidentally longer.
* The Nap/Sunlight timer Live Activity gained a small layout that fits the Apple Watch face.
* Removed a duplicate Done button from the Watch's wake schedule sheet.
* Added Simplified Chinese translations for the new messages.

### 1.4.1(155)
* Fixed the wake alarm not rescheduling itself the morning after you wake up.
* Reopening the app now refreshes tomorrow's alarm right away, instead of waiting for a background task.
* If you've already woken up today, SleepTap won't try to re-arm today's alarm.

### 1.4.0 — 2026-07-04

* Apple Watch sleep planning is clearer: the Sleep screen now previews your committed wake target, supports manual wake-time fallback, and keeps smart alarm pre-detection focused on that wake time.
* Wake schedules now sync through shared iCloud data, helping iPhone, Apple Watch, and Watch widgets stay aligned even after background refreshes or temporary iPhone reachability issues.
* Sleep tracking is safer when detection fails: timed-out bedtimes are marked as failed instead of creating misleading all-night HealthKit sleep records.
* Diary sleep analysis now matches Apple Health more closely, including Time in Bed, displayed sleep ranges, and sleep score behavior based on your configured target duration.
* Mood check-ins are more dependable across iPhone and Apple Watch, with recoverable pending entries, better summary syncing, and clearer mood labels on Watch.
* Watch widgets refresh more consistently after wake-up, completed sleep, and mood updates, so the glanceable sleep state is less likely to go stale.
* Sunlight reminders now avoid overly early notifications by respecting a minimum notification hour.
* Added Simplified Chinese updates and polished Apple Watch prompts for wake-time, mood, and sleep states.
