## What is Slopes?

Take your snow days to the next level! Uncover detailed stats (and bragging rights) about your days skiing and snowboarding, ride with friends, log your memories, and replay your winter adventures together. Get the best ski tracking experience on iPhone and Apple Watch!

SMART RECORDING
Select your activity, and Slopes will figure out everything in the background (even what resort you're at, assuming you have cell reception). You can choose from ski, snowboard, monoski, sitski, telemark, and more. Slopes will automatically detect uphill, lifts, and runs for you all day long.

FIND YOUR FRIENDS ON THE MOUNTAIN
With live location on the recording screen, you can easily find each other! Location sharing is privacy-focused; you can always turn it on and off.

INTERACTIVE RESORT MAPS (Premium)—Available for 2000+ resorts in the US, Canada, the European Alps, Australia, New Zealand, and Japan.
Navigate resorts with ease in 2D or 3D. See which run you or your friends are on and where to go next. Find any trail, lift, the bathroom, and more. On many North American resorts, we now show on-mountain facilities such as bathrooms, food, and, most importantly, ski patrol locations, even in free mode.

TRIP PLANNING & CONDITIONS
Plan upcoming trips and invite your friends to them to share in the hype. Trips let you keep tabs on resort conditions, who's coming or not, and who else was invited, all in one central place. Before you head up the mountain, check what other riders say about a resort's snow quality. While on the mountain, location sharing will automatically work with everyone on the trip - even the participants not on your friend list in Slopes.

DETAILED STATISTICS
Uncover a wealth of information about your performance, speed, vertical, run times, and more. Find out how good you are and how you're getting even better, season-over-season.

FITNESS + APPLE WATCH
See how you're pushing yourself with live heart-rate data, close your activity rings in Apple Health, and with Slopes Premium, you can check vitals and fitness insights for every twist and turn.

PRIVACY-FOCUSED
Slopes never sells your data, and features are designed with privacy and safety in mind. Accounts are optional, and you can Sign-in with Apple.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 2026.13 — 2026-05-04

- Lots of UX improvements for the timeline editor:
    - Added a movement heat-bar to help you set the start/end of lifts/runs and avoid including time in lift lines.
    - Added labels ("Run #1") and duration to the lift/run blocks.
    - Live-updating of the lift/run's GPS path on the map while you drag the start or end to a new time.
    - Higher contrast for the full day's GPS path and the action you're editing.
    - Switched to Slopes's custom resort maps so it is easier to snap to lifts.
    - UI tweaks to modernize the screen and bring it more inline with iOS 26.
- Slopes will no longer re-open to a recording or resort you looked at days ago. Instead we now only restore the last thing you were doing if it was within the past 10 hours or so.
- Improved GPS recovery logic for rescuing briefly-lost location points.
- Fixed multiple crashes on launch, including one that was sending some iOS 26 users into a crash loop.
- Fixed a couple of crashes that could happen during or at the end of a recording session.
- Fixed a crash for Ask to Buy users: if a parent approved an in-app purchase while you were waiting, the app could crash.
- Fixed several crashes that could happen seemingly at random — loading resort details, network activity, and smart recording reminders.
- Fixed crashes in the daily AR playback scene on iOS 26, usually related to opening and closing it multiple times.

### 2026.12 — 2026-04-24

- Drive-away detection: It's not just you: 2.2% of riders this season left Slopes recording while driving away from the resort. Now Slopes catches the vast majority of those, alerting you with a notification + haptics, and then automatically removing the drive-time. We err heavily on the side of caution as it is better to leave a bit of driving than to accidentally clip real skiing, so this only happens when we're very confident and only for end-of-day driving (not mid-day shuttles; that's a whole other problem). As always, the timeline editor is there if you want to tweak what we did.
- You can now save recordings even when we didn't detect any runs or lifts. Ruby Hill and other hike-to parks, this one's for you.
- Zoom in on the logbook globe and you'll now see resort names under your pins.
- Fixed runs and lifts sometimes going missing or getting swapped when cluster detection (how we tell skiing apart from milling around the lodge) got confused about where a pause started or ended.
- Fixed the tab bar handle sometimes disappearing during a recording, leaving you no way to bring it back.
- Fixed Kosovo and other disputed territories sometimes not showing a flag in the lifetime and season summaries.
- Fixed a case where opening a push notification or widget could cause the card UI not to show.
- Fixed a few subtle bugs in the recording engine that could lead to the starts/ends of lifts/runs being off by a small amount.
- Fixed a case where skiing at Chamonix could sometimes highlight Switzerland in the logbook map.
- Fixed a case where the top speed in leaderboards might not match the top speed listed on activities/trips/seasons.
- Fixed a case where animations could get disabled.

### 2026.11 — 2026-04-04

- Tap a person, country, or resort in your lifetime or season summary to search and view matching activities.
- Trail detail cards now show the average slope angle, too.
- It's the little things: added a zoom-to-fullscreen transition when tapping on a photo on the map during replay.
- Fixed the Pass Value Calculator showing "loading" when no resorts you visited belong to a season pass.
- Fixed trail details not loading for runs at Lutsen Mountains (and a few other resorts).
- Fixed a race condition where the map never fully loads.

### 2026.10 — 2026-03-28

- You can now swipe up and down to collapse and expand the tab bar while you record.
- If you expand the tab bar while recording, we don't auto-collapse it anymore for that recording session.
- For premium users, when replaying your day run/lift names are no longer low-contrast, making it easier to see which runs you took.
- Improved the "what did you tap on the map?" logic to take into account layer ordering.
- Fixed your avatar disappearing if you over-scrolled on the replay screen.
- Fixed the "+5" text next to the avatars of friends you skied with sometimes being cut off in the logbook.
- Fixed the thumbnails on the map for photos you took sometimes being squished.
- Fixed the resume button getting squished temporarily when you enable the auto-resume timer.
- Fixed downloading offline maps on the account screen for resorts you never looked at the details of before.

### 2026.9 — 2026-03-20

- Check out the new Pass Value Calculator on the seasons summary screen to easily see if your season pass saved money vs buying standard lift tickets.
- When in dark mode, the sky in 3D mode will now render as night time.
- If you update your email, we'll validate it to help avoid typos like @gmail.c9m.
- Working on tracking down 0-or-low calorie estimates from Apple Watch. A speculative fix is in here, but also a lot more logging to help us track it down.
