Without audiobooks it’s useless to me honestly. **Developer response:** Hi, from the SlowRead team. Best regards. ### 1/5 — Expensive *2026-08-15* I would have loved this app but there is no way I’m paying $40 multiple times to use an app. I’m not even paying $10 unless it’s a 1 time charge and even that is pushing it. It’s too bad though it probably would have been a good app but anyone can do the same thing on Canva or another app for FREE! **Developer response:** Hi! But before I even got to pick two books it’s saying to pay $40 a year. This is crazy don’t waste your time. **Developer response:** Hi! It’s a mobile app…big pass. I’ll go back to using Margins (same features for FREE). We're a small team building this full-time, and an app like this has real running costs, Apple's cut, the developer account, infrastructure, and the constant work of keeping everything working across iOS updates. Subscriptions are what make that sustainable. Free apps usually pay for it another way, whether that's ads or data. We do offer a discount that brings it down to 29$, and there's a free trial first. This is absolutely insane. Ridiculous. ### 1/5 — No free option *2026-09-08* Unfortunately, as much as the app is cute and I would have loved it, there’s no free option and you have to pay a subscription right off the bat. With book apps like Goodreads and Fable (those have premium options for cheaper) this makes no sense. ### 1/5 — Read time *2026-09-08* I don’t want to set up a specific time to read, I want to read when I want to, it won’t let me get past this, WHY ? ### 1/5 — Payment required *2026-09-07* I have no interest in another subscription service. I’m also not interested in paying $150 for an app. Most video games don’t even cost that much. ### 1/5 — Saving y’all some time *2026-09-03* When you first open the app it lets you use some features making you think you can use it without paying anything, the second after you add your first book it won’t let you use it unless you spend money. On top of the money they use A.I to generate the decor and backgrounds for the book shelves, an app shouldn’t cost anything if A.I is involved because you are generating things for free and you aren’t paying a human designer. ### 1/5 — Can’t do anything *2026-09-02* Now unless I mess a small X or skip button, you can’t do anything unless you paid first. ### 1/5 — CHARGED TWICE. Use Caution. *2026-08-30* Careful downloading. Use Caution and be prepared to cancel subscription right away. When you first open the app it goes through the setup process and makes you pick a plan before actually seeing any part of what you’re getting. It does give you the option to a 3 day trial but even if you don’t choose any and close the app it will automatically select the trial option and charge the $39.99. I made that mistake. I wanted something to track SE books but being forced to pick a plan right away made me not want to proceed. Three days later I’m charged the full amount. I go back in as I couldn’t remember setting it up. Well it made me go through the setup AGAIN then offered a deal of $29.99. Thinking it was $29.99 for a year I thought whatever I can deal with the loss and I’d figure out how to make it useful. Looked at my receipt and was charged both amounts on the same day. So this app came out to $70+. Only the $29.99 was eligible for a refund but was denied. If you’re looking for an app to track SE books. So far ThingsBook seems to be the better option. **Developer response:** Thank you for taking the time to write this in detail — this is the first report we've received of a double charge, and we want to look into it. To clarify one point: all payments are processed by Apple, not by us — we never have access to your payment method and cannot charge you directly. A free trial does convert to a paid subscription if it isn't cancelled before it ends, which is standard for App Store subscriptions, but you should never end up with two active plans. That part shouldn't happen and we're checking it now. I was wondering if you search for a book and it’s not there can you request somewhere for the book to be added or something? I was reading reviews and I liked the heads up that they gave in the $40 a year. However, i believe that it is perfectly reasonable especially if you guys are a small team. I love the style and the outline and while i can’t pay for it right now i would love to help you out sometime in the future. Monthly, yearly, or one time payment for life) As a human with ADHD who LOVES reading but has had a hard time getting back into it due to life happening, this is already an amazing visual and organized in a way that I’ve always wanted. I’m going to try out the three day free trial and see how it feels after a few days once I’ve gotten used to it. Yes, you need to pay for it. But, it’s a small developing team on their first app, they need money to get it going, think of when a friend of yours starts a small business selling something, it’s essentially the same thing, just a little less visual. Happy reading. ### 3/5 — it’s nice but not free *2026-08-26* there are different apps that do basically the same thing and you don’t have to pay for them. i just wanted something to visually see my tbr and this is making me pay for it ### 3/5 — Gets information so wrong *2026-08-15* It’s a good app in theory but when you try to add readings it gets it all wrong and puts the wrong page number in and the wrong amount of pages read and even if you try to change it and save it it still proceeds to say the same thing **Developer response:** Thank you for this, you're describing a real problem and we want to fix it. I saw this advertised and was so excited then i downloaded it and realised I can’t use it without paying almost £7 every week, that’s just about £30 a month or £114. **Developer response:** Thanks for the kind words about the app. Just so it's clear: the weekly plan isn't the only option. SlowRead has an annual plan and a lifetime option — a single payment, no subscription at all — both of which work out far cheaper than paying weekly. The weekly is there for people who prefer a low upfront commitment, but nobody has to choose it. Open the app, tap through to the plans and you'll see all three. ### 2/5 — Cool, but not doing another subscription. Sorry *2026-08-28* Amazing concept, loved the way it looked from what little I saw. But having to pay to use an app is an automatic “no” for me. With everything slowly turning into a subscription service I won’t want to have to deal with another one. **Developer response:** Thank you.
