## What is SLSA Operations App?

The SLSA Operations app is a paperless patrol management suite produced by Surf Life Saving Australia for use by active surf lifesaving patrol members. The latest feature rich version is location based and uses your current location for weather details, rescue locations, tracking of roving patrols and assets and much more. Use the 'Activity feed' tab to see what is happening around your club/service for the current day. Push notifications will alert you when it's time to sign off. Use the Gear and Issues modules to perform gear inspections, view your clubs equipment and report gear issues.

Active patrol members such as Patrol Captains and Vice Captains can:

* Sign on/off a patrol
* Update the status of your Club, Lifeguard or Lifesaving service
* Record and update patrol members attendance
* Record and update patrol statistics
* Log hazards (rip currents etc)
* Log the location of your patrol (flags, tent etc)
* Log the location of hazards (stingers & sharks)
* Log the location of rescues (Single and Mass Rescues)
* Use the Tracker function to track the location of your Roving Patrols, Lifesaving Service Personnel etc

All the information that is collected in the app is made available to your local Surfcom in realtime for efficient service delivery and operations on the beach.

A new 'Surf Risk Rating' section has been added to allow specific members to perform Risk assessments (see your Lifesaving Operations Manager for access).

A new 'Gear' module allows users to view all the gear and equipment in their club and use the 'Issues' sections to log any issues against these items of gear. Gear and equipment audits can be done in this section however the user must hold a gear and equipment auditor award (contact your state). All gear and equipment check/audits will have the relevant fields updated in Surfguard against that piece of gear. The ‘successfully completed audit’ checkbox will only be ticked if all the checklist items are marked as ‘pass’ for that item.

In order to log into this app, an active Members Area account is required, which is available to all members of Clubs, Lifeguards and Lifesaving services. If you have a Members Area account but are not an active patrol member then you can still log in, although the patrol components will not be visible.

Please note that Victorian and Queensland clubs can use the app to view their Patrol Roster and access the Surf Risk Rating component however should not use this app for patrol management.

Never works reliably

### 3/5 — Adding Patrol Members

*2024-03-04*

Not able to add additional patrol members for a patrol

### 3/5 — Needs more work

*2022-02-20*

Good in parts, but infuriating at times.

A relatively small matter to begin with is the consistent failure to play nicely with password manager app 1Password. Trying to use the autofill function to import the login details causes the Operations app to freeze, every time, requiring a shutdown. The workaround is to manually enter the username and then copy and paste the password to get the Operations app to start

Much more annoying and I can’t find a workaround: the refusal to allow the patrol to log off unless all obscure and unidentified data is completed. There is no indication to find what data is incomplete. Do I really need to enter the times of the next 2 high and low tides? I just give up on trying to guess what the app wants and log off manually by radio instead, putting the app away until next patrol

### 1/5 — Really saddened

*2021-01-03*

Hi guys,

Accepting that we work for a voluntary organisation, it truly saddens me some of the basics are not 100% reliable with this app. How is it possible to have someone shown as a substitute yet there is no substitute recorded? This app MUST, as part of it’s basic core function, record the hours of attendance by those volunteers who have given their time to help their fellow Australians. And this has failed time and time again. Why must it be left to the Patrol Captains to check that the attendance was correct? Why is it that means of correcting the hours is not provided to the said Patrols Captains in the event that a mistake has occurred?

As a member of Woolworths IT, it saddens me that the app has been released without rigorous testing, verifying that what was captured did indeed take place. It saddens me that, in the last few years there are likely thousands of voluntary hours that have gone unrecorded.

Guys, this app needs work, and it needs proper testing, and ideally some UX redesign.

Records keeper at Narrabeen Beach.

**Developer response:** Hi MbararaTone, the app will work on the latest iOS, we recommend re-installing the app if you are still experiencing issues.

### 3/5 — Glitches

*2019-12-26*

Please fix the glitch with the app that automatically turns off the patrol when you have signed on.

### 4/5 — Great idea, needs some ironing

*2019-03-30*

A really great little app, however some fine tuning on the UI/UX would be great. Love the use of APIs to fill in weather and tides.

### 3/5 — Improving but still buggy

*2019-01-28*

Great time saver when it works. Still issues with subs and duplicate entries.
