### 5/5 — This app is a gem!

*2025-02-23, version 6.13*

I LOVE this amazing and incredibly beautiful Art app. I’ve been a subscriber for years. A person could not see this much art and learn all about it if they spent all day every day going to museums.

### 5/5 — Widget

*2025-02-20, version 6.13*

Love the widget! Recommend just for the rotating art on your screen

### 5/5 — 2nd Review Updated

*2024-12-07, version 6.13*

After two years, I experienced a glitch, but I am thrilled to update my review to reflect the incredible customer support I received. Marina was kind, responsive, and fixed the issue. Now that it is working perfectly again, I couldn’t be happier! This app is truly a treasure. The content is wonderful — filled with beautiful, hi-res art and fascinating information. It’s a daily highlight for me and it’s clear the developer cares deeply about the product and their users. Highly recommended for anyone who loves art and wants an enriching experience. Thank you for bringing Smart Art back to life for me!

### 5/5 — Magnificent

*2024-11-24, version 6.13*

New user and am just getting used to it. Awesome, perhaps especially on 12.9” iPad.

### 5/5 — Impressed

*2024-11-21, version 6.13*

I enjoy this app. It’s one of the better art related reference and interactive apps. It has fun quizzes and wonderful info on great pieces. I found it informative and slightly more advanced than others which was the best part. I’m so happy I found it.

### 5/5 — Dr hesham from Egypt

### 5/5 — No complaints

*2024-09-21, version 6.13*

this is probably my favorite art history app, it has so much art and doesn’t just stick to popular modern artist like Van Gogh and Picasso. I really love the art widget, I have no complaints just hoping it adds more art (to its already massive art count) :)

### 5/5 — Best app!

*2024-09-17, version 6.13*

Best app!

### 5/5 — Great App! Fun and Intellectually Stimulating

*2024-09-08, version 6.13*

App is new to me but I have enjoyed every second!!!

### 4/5 — Enough to satisfy most.

*2024-06-17, version 6.11*

I paid for the unlimited over subscription and there is so much content that 95% of users will never use half of what is available. No bugs/runs smooth on iPhone 12.

### 5/5 — Lovely app

*2024-06-08, version 6.11*

An app made beautiful by the history, accessibility, and art it displays.

### 5/5 — B.Adler

Fabulous and insightful information!

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Paid $ but content still locked

*2025-01-18, version 6.13*

I paid for a subscription but the content is still locked. I am getting *NOTHING* for the $7.99 I spent to test this app. I will update this review if I get a prompt response that fixes the problem.

### 1/5 — Nice idea, horrible execution

*2022-09-25, version 6.1*

I do not believe English is the developer’s first language. Either that or they hired terrible writers. I noticed before I purchased it was hard to understand the message because it was so lamely written, but then I thought well it will probably get better. It didn’t. I got a refund. Plus sometimes it’s confusing as to what artwork they’re comparing something to. One story had a small image in the middle, no caption (??), so I thought it might be the comparison referenced to the original art but when I clicked on it for a larger image (and maybe a reference to what I am looking at) it opened to a blank screen. Main issue, though, is simply horribly explained.

### 1/5 — Rubbish

*2022-03-10*

Do not get this app!! It’s a waste of valuable time !!! It is horrible. They don’t know anything about art here. Everything is wrong. They don’t have even basic info here.

**Developer response:** Hi gjjgfbmee. Well, we are sorry and even somewhat surprised you got so angry with our tiny app we create with love and attention to artists, their art and its history. And no, we don't believe your review makes justice to Smart Art. Marina

### 2/5 — Beautiful app held behind a pay wall

*2024-11-20, version 6.13*

I wish there was an app that wanted to educate people and not worry about making a profit from subscriptions, the app looks wonderful but I cant tell you anything about it because I do not want to pay 7.99 a month to use it! I’d much rather have ads and use the app and then further choose to buy ad free AFTER being able to use the app and explore the features. There’s more beneficial ways to make money from your app that help you AND the consumer. Very few can afford this on top of all other subscriptions the average person has.

### 2/5 — Awesome but BUGGY app for art historians

*2021-04-11, version 3.0*

2nd review (two-star): I’ve been a paid subscriber for close to a year. Suddenly all my premium content is locked. Cannot restore purchases. Cannot make purchases. This still gets two stars for at least having a great home screen widget. But it’s useless if you can’t access to see who the artist is.

1st review (five-star): I’m working towards my masters in art history and I adore this app. I’ll be sending it along to my instructors and classmates for sure. Would be great if you could sort the giant page of works you can go to by category, e.g., if I want to sort all the abstract art by date, artist name, or the name of the work.

### 3/5 — I want to love this app.

*2024-12-18*

I truly do want to love it. I use it for the widgets. But the price is so high for images and information that can very easily be found online. I’m happy to pay for it. It just seems so high for free information.

I’d wager I’m just not the right audience for an app like this with quizzes and such. I certainly don’t doubt the work put in to writing the quizzes and stories. Those aren’t visible without paying $8 a month. Again, the widgets are SO nice so you can enjoy a fresh piece of art come up daily. I am an art lover and studied art for most of my life. This app just isn’t for me at this price and I’d be paying money for things I do not have time or need to use. I find the story feature actually quite cheapening of the beautiful historical art that is trying to be showcased.

That said, art should be celebrated and this app does that. And it seems like it could be a good app for some people (but most features are locked out due to having to pay quite a bit for what it is).

**Developer response:** Dear SkylerJune, I'm sad to read your review and learn that you do not find our offer compelling enough for your personal need. Our stories and quizzes were prepared by me exclusively for Smart art, though. Each day two new stories and one quiz are unlocked for all users without full access. Besides the subscription, we have a one-time fee of $29,99 which gives access to all content and features forever. Yet, if that's not what you expect, I'm sure you will find what suits you best in other resources online and offline. Regards, Marina

### 3/5 — FRUSTRATING

*2022-04-27, version 5.5*

This is a wonderful app but frustrating to try to use because of so many bugs! My attempts to contact developers disappear too!!!!!

### 3/5 — too limited :^(

*2020-07-30, version 1.3*

the app itself is great, but what a non-subscriber is given access to is far too limited. there should be a better balance between what anyone could access, and what is specifically only for those who pay for the subscription. in addition, i wish the articles (at least the available ones) would go a little bit more in depth on the artwork/historical context they discuss. it’s hard to see why i would have a meaningful experience on the app as opposed to using a resource like smarthistory, which is entirely free.

however, i do recognize that the app developer just wants to be compensated for their efforts — i just don’t see myself personally feeling the need to spend money for a potentially better experience.

### 4/5 — Happy I bought it, worth it all, but…

*2026-03-08*

They haven’t fixed the landscape issue, it keeps flipping to portrait mode. I also like the stories, would love to read more in depth narrative, but how it is now is also pretty fun and interesting.

**Developer response:** Hi 4Geist, thanks for the kind words! Regarding your note on the landscape mode:
Indeed, the overall layout of the app itself doesn't support switching to the landscape mode by design.
Yet, each and every image in the app can be viewed full-screen either in vertical or horizontal format. Just tap the picture (it shall go full-screen) and then turn your device to see the details.
Hope this helps! Marina

### 5/5 — Brilliant

*2026-06-07, version 6.17*

Perfect app for learning about anything related to art. It is useful and helpful with quizzes and pictures of paintings to draw information from. It is an ideal source and I love the app for its functionality.😊

### 5/5 — Good content

*2026-05-04, version 6.16*

I’ve been using smart art for awhile I left and came back because it’s a really great source for learning and taking time to see great art.

### 5/5 — USED TO BE THE BEST!!

*2026-04-12, version 6.16*

USED TO BE THE BEST Art App!! Now the daily 2nd Story (below the Free top story) and the Art Quiz (below the Free second story) are no longer free. BIG disappointment. Used to be my favorite Art App! Offered MORE Art stories than any other but not anymore.
PLEASE bring back the other 2 FREE daily options!!!

### 5/5 — Happy I bought it, worth it all, but…

*2026-03-16, version 6.16*

Response to developer:
I’ve tried what you suggested, but that’s where the problem I mentioned happens. I tap on it to go into full view, turn it to landscape, and it just flips it into portrait view in landscape mode.

### 5/5 — An informative and fresh look at art

*2026-02-11, version 6.16*

Note: I have given 5 stars in this review but only 4 are shown.
I’ve been a Smart Art subscriber for several months now. The content is light-hearted yet informative, covering an extensive range of styles and eras. I’ve enjoyed learning about lesser-known artists and seeing their impressive work. Organizing the artwork by themes is an effective way to stay engaged, and the quality of the images throughout the app is very good. I also appreciate the insights into the more mundane but exciting side of art dealing, including the prices for which certain pieces were sold. In summary, a great app for the curious art lover. PS. It's also great getting a prompt response from the creators about comments or questions regarding the App.

### 5/5 — good

### 5/5 — Loving it!

*2025-09-07, version 6.15*

Thanks to this app, I am able to enjoy art everyday.

### 5/5 — Simple and Effective

*2025-06-01, version 6.13*

Gorgeous pieces, love that it's free.

### 5/5 — I want to love this app. And now I do!

*2025-02-26, version 6.13*

Edit: I recently bought the app and am exceedingly happy with it! They offered a lifetime purchase price (I am not a fan of all these endless subscriptions so this being offered was ideal for me at this time). I still almost exclusively use it for the widgets, but it’s really nice to now be able to save in app and/or also on my phone itself any work I see that I find inspiring, which is so often! The creator of this app does a great job at curation of a wide variety of works, constantly cycling through. It’s always a nice surprise to open my phone to see a new beautiful work of art, many I’ve never seen before despite being an avid art lover my whole life.

You can tell this app was created with love, and is constantly maintained/updated with love of art in her heart (I believe it’s a woman who puts this together, but if I’m wrong, my apologies). To the creator, my apologies on not realizing how great this app is when I first started using it.

Same as before, many of the features just aren’t for me, but that does not mean they aren’t great features for anyone else. Still, I am very happy to pay even for the small features I do use. But this app does have a TON to offer its users - you will find any number of features that work for you if you love art. It’s got a lot to work with and explore. I very much recommend buying/ subscribing.

The app works seamlessly without error. I’ve never had any glitches, not even with the widgets… not even once (which I cannot say about any other app widget - so truly impressive).

I’m very happy to change my review and hope to help others find this awesome art app (and to right my wrong, because it’s a great app). It’s brought joy to my life - silly but true. It’s really nice to constantly have a new piece of art to look at just when passing by on my way to read an email or do some work. It makes a difference in my day (sometimes, it’s the small things that make the biggest impact). It puts a smile on my face on the regular. It’s like having a whole museum pop up in your life, unobtrusively. I am very grateful of the creator(s) and their efforts taking on such a big endeavor. It’s not your average art resource. Lots of cool features and it goes above and beyond, imo. So please disregard the review below (I was wrong), outside of the ‘celebrate art’ part, lol. This app celebrates art, and that is truly lovely. 💛

Additional edit: the writeups on each piece featured are great too! Not sure if I mentioned that, but noticed today. K. Done being over the top with how great this app is. The free version does not show these things so I just want people to know. :)
