### 2/5 — Crashes constantly

*2026-03-20, version 3.9.1*

I want to love it. When it works it’s amazing, but the crashes kill the experience. It especially crashes when trying to open imported music, seems to be no rhyme or reason to why.

### 4/5 — This app is lowkey kinda peak🔥

*2026-03-16, version 3.9.1*

The app has been great so far— I have yet how to figure out how I work the sheet music for my recorded songs. Otherwise, the app is easy to navigate and I genuinely love it. ❤️ Have fun with this.

### 3/5 — Subject: sus

*2026-02-25, version 3.9.0*

The music is a little too loud.

### 4/5 — Very good

*2026-02-11, version 3.9.0*

Messes up sometimes

### 2/5 — Latest version broken

*2026-01-15, version 3.9.0*

The latest version has broken the Songs section. I run this app on a fairly current iPad. I use to only have to double tap a song 3 or 4 times to get it to open. Now I cannot get a song to open at all. I can get a song to play by tapping the play icon but I’m using the Lesson songs and I want to open the song and adjust the settings before it starts playing. Doesn’t work anymore.

### 2/5 — Clunky and old

*2026-01-06, version 3.8.0*

It feels as if this app is not being maintained. Most features don’t work with a $12k AvantGrand N1X and there’s a plethora of MIDI-related features that could be added to support learning — see the flowkey app.

### 4/5 — Options

*2025-10-05, version 3.8.0*

App is great! But it would be nice to be able to download new music to play.

### 2/5 — Worked fine until using my iPhone 17 pro on iOS 26?

*2025-10-03, version 3.8.0*

Does not recognize piano anymore. CSP 170. It charges the phone but the app no long recognizes a connection. Help!

### 3/5 — Tempo

*2025-07-18, version 3.7.0*

Will not maintain a temple setting!

### 1/5 — Needs P-255 support

*2025-06-24, version 3.7.0*

Now that they removed a P-255 controller app from the store, they should make it right for the customers and add support for it to this app.

### 1/5 — This app is no longer working

*2025-04-12, version 3.7.0*

Help! I can’t get anything past the agree to reading the software license. This used to work pretty well. Now nothing. It has made my piano not work.

### 1/5 — Excellent Piano, but the Smart Pianist App Needs Major UX Improvements

*2026-08-11, version 3.10.0*

The Yamaha CSP-295 series is an excellent instrument, but unfortunately, I feel the Smart Pianist app does not live up to the quality and potential of the piano. It feels more like an afterthought than a product designed to showcase what these instruments are capable of, particularly in live performance.

There are several basic user-experience issues that make the app unnecessarily difficult to use while playing. For example, even with Favorites configured, it can take about five clicks to select a different Voice while a Style is playing, followed by another two clicks to retum to the Style page. This is simply impractical during live performance.

There should be persistent, easily accessible Voice and Style controls at the bottom of the app, available from anywhere in the interface. The Ul also needs to be revisited to make it more intuitive, streamlined, and visually appealing.

The current quick-access area could also be better designed. For example, having the Metronome there seems far less useful than providing direct access to Voice and Style controls.
Likewise, the iPad's larger screen does not seem to provide meaningful advantages in terms of functionality or workflow, which feels like a missed opportunity.

Another particularly frustrating issue is that selecting a Registration Memoty can stop the Style from playing, even when the intention is simply to change the Voice. This is disruptive and makes live performance unnecessarily stressful.

The Smart Pianist app has the potential to significantly enhance an already outstanding instrument, but in its current form, it often does the opposite. Yamaha has built an exceptional piano in the CSP-295 series; the software experience should be equally polished and should make the instrument easier-not harder-to perform with.

### 1/5 — Does not play MIDI at all on NP35.

*2026-04-15, version 3.9.2*

### 1/5 — cannot even connect my p225 to my iPhone.

*2026-03-14, version 3.9.1*

### 1/5 — Problem with latest update

*2026-02-12, version 3.9.0*

### 1/5 — Unable to Edit My Song/Recording

*2026-01-27, version 3.9.0*

### 1/5 — Doesn’t work with iOS26.2 neither iPhone nor iPad

*2026-01-27, version 3.9.0*

Doesn’t work with iOS26.2 neither iPhone nor iPad

### 1/5 — Problem with latest update

*2026-01-16*

Yikes. What did you do with my recorded songs?Yes , they are there with my other “imported songs”, a menu change that doesn’t make sense but the real issue is the playback of the songs. There are multiple pauses in each of the songs. Please fix.

### 1/5 — Horrible

*2025-12-06, version 3.8.0*

Horrible dose not teach me anything

### 1/5 — App always crashes

*2025-07-30, version 3.7.0*

Almost half of the time the app will crash when I download a PDF and try to add it to the Smart Pianist Library. This is truly a terrible app. It’s also very slow and not beginner friendly.

### 5/5 — Accessibility Request: Pedal Reassignment Support

*2026-07-03, version 3.10.0*

Excellent app and excellent integration with Yamaha pianos.

I have one accessibility request. I currently have a fractured right ankle and cannot use the right sustain pedal on my Yamaha YDP-165. It would be incredibly helpful if Smart Pianist allowed users to reassign pedal functions, such as using the left pedal as the sustain pedal.

I noticed that the app already supports assigning the center pedal for page turning, which suggests that additional pedal assignment options may be possible.

This feature would help not only people recovering from injuries like mine, but also musicians with disabilities or limited mobility.

Thank you for creating such a wonderful app, and I hope Yamaha will consider adding pedal remapping in a future update.

### 5/5 — Great piano fun

*2026-03-21, version 3.9.1*

### 5/5 — Free Piano Lessons and more

*2025-06-12, version 3.7.0*

I take full advantage of the lessons coming with it. I have model P-125 and YDP164. So much fun to follow the lessons. Not boring. I can also upload score in PDF and the piano plays it for me through the app. Great work, Yamaha! What’s missing? The pause during the lesson. Please add the pause button so easy for me to practice specific sections repeatedly.

### 5/5 — Best
