Why Estonia is so far ahead
I have lived in many places in the world, often administration services are devised for the benefit of the administrator not the service user. Administration managers draft inflexible rules demanding that clients travel great distances to attend appointments at a central office to present original copies of documents… which are simply scanned or photocopied by a minion on the lowest pay grade. Alternatively departments deny face to face interviews even email insisting that irreplaceable documents are sent by snail mail. I now live in Estonia I can log in easily using my Smart ID, then all is open: banking, health and medical appointments, education, government departments, driving licenses and vehicle registration, I can attend to almost everything securely and immediately without expense or trouble.
