If you are chasing DX, parks or fill in the blank, some times your opportunity may not come at a time when you’re sitting in front of your radio. I have worked hundreds of contacts from the hotel room on a business trip or I got a Ham Alert notification that a person, park, or state has been spotted and I am on frequency in short order throwing out my call regardless of where I am physically located. ### 5/5 — IOS 18 Update *2024-09-18* I was happy to see that the app worked flawlessly after my IPhone 14 upgrade to IOS 18. Great work by the developer to keep the app up to date. He has always been responsive to help needs via the help section in the app. If you have issues, it will direct you to him via email. I purchased this for my iPhone, but it doesn’t work on my iPhone, says I need to purchase it, but it works on my iPad. Go figure. Second, on my iPad, I got my Bose NC headset adjusted to work perfectly with my iPad and this software.. Then this morning I got on the air with my iPad and I was getting very bad audio reports. They say it sounded boxy and they couldn’t understand what I was saying. I thought maybe it’s the Bose Headset, but when I did this on my Android, the audio reports were perfect. Maybe it was the latest software with the Bluetooth? Here is extra info. This is an iPad Air 2 with version 15.8.1 I tried using only the microphone with the iPad only ( not the Bluetooth Bose) and I got the same distortion, so it’s not the headset. I would like feedback, advise to fix this issue. Grazie e buon lavoro. ### 5/5 — Great Software for FlexRadio on IOS *2023-01-30* I find this IOS software for FlexRadio on iPad and iPhone Pro MAX that I have is easier to configure and use for FT8 and SSB then on my Windows 11 Computer. I use it every day. I have made 114 confirmed DXCC/LoTW countries on FT8/FT4 since September 2022, and it is now Jan 30, 2023. This software is will worth the money spent to enable the features I use, including general radio access, the logging and,FT8 features. The developer has quickly answered questions to help with any problems I have in using the software. ### 5/5 — Why there is no Chinese version？ *2023-01-28* Why there is no Chinese version？ **Developer response:** There is not even a German version, even though I am German myself. I bought the app for my iPhone and then wanted to use it on my granddaughter’s iPad. I had bought her the iPad for Christmas last year and she has graciously loaned it to me to work remotely when we go to the lake. I have found that 82 year old eyes do better with a larger display. She has her own Apple ID and because it is different from mine, I can only use it if I pay another $65. Other than having to pay for it twice, I think it is a great app and I will gladly rate it five stars if I can use it without having to pay for it again. It is advertised to only have to pay once! **Developer response:** Roger, You should have contacted me using the App included Contact developer feature. It is NEVER necessary to pay twice. BUT you will have to use the same Apple ID as all purchases are always tied to an Apple ID. Strange though! ### 5/5 — Remote Operating At It’s Best *2022-10-04* I bought a Flex 6400M with idea of operating it remote when we were out RVing. The radio is great and the pc software works great too. But I have a tether speed limit of 5 Mbps and was concerned that would not handle the radio data very well. The iPhone version works so well that I use a HDMI cable to the 50” tv and I am enjoying the hobby on the road without putting up additional antennas. The software works great! The sound quality through my V1 airpods is superb too. I’m super happy with the software and highly recommend it. 73s KJ5WO ### 5/5 — Awesome app and top notch support *2022-08-21, version 6.0.04* Ive had the app since it first was released. Used on a 6500 and 2 6400’s thus far. This latest release is outstanding. The FT8 functionality is excellent. I used to use splashtop and remote into my pc in the shack to do FT8. Now, i can do it all right from the app on my ipad and iphone 13 Max. Logging works great and can be uploaded to QRZ and LOTW. About the only thing this app cant do is the functionality of JTAlert. But give it time. Markus is a talented developer. His support is top notch. He answers emails very quickly and turns out patches and upgrades quite often. You wont regret buying the app. Get the logbook and FT8 tools also. Money well spent. Im a 100% remote operator. It works perfectly and it looks just like the Mac version of the app. The support is fantastic with regular updates and you can’t go wrong. Is there any hope for the possibility to record and play back audio on the frequency like we can do in the widows version or from the Maestro? I know we can have canned macros for contesting but I am looking at live so audio. Also, can a SSTV app be added as a tool? Steve, N8XSF ### 5/5 — Amazing access to Flex radio *2022-03-13* It took me some time to get the Mac iOS version of SmartSDR working properly on my MacBook Pro… not because of any problems with the App, it was more a case of me being a slow learner! Looking back it was pretty easy. Having got the Mac version working and having familiarised myself with it I decided to try this version for the iPad. I had it working, completely interfaced with Flex 6400M and PGXL linear amplifier and operating G2YT remote from Asia within a few minutes. Nach dem Update auf iOS 15, ist mir aufgefallen, dass der Kopfhörer nur funktioniert wenn dieser erst angesteckt wird nachdem die Verbindung zum TRX hergestellt wurde. Das Problem tritt auf meinem iPhone 12 Pro Max auf. Decepcionado **Developer response:** Please note, this issue is caused by FlexRadio. They are still working of fixing their SmartLink error. Once fixed, my App will work via SmartLink again. No update? ### 1/5 — CB Band *2021-12-26* Da ich aus welchen Gründen auch immer den Entwickler nicht so erreichen kann muss ich es eben so versuchen. Ich bin CB Funker aber das 11 Meter Band geht hier wohl nicht!? Warum ist das so? CB ist nun mal der Einstieg ins die Welt des Funkens! Wenn das noch gehen würde wäre ich auch bereit für die App zu bezahlen! Bitte um Kontakt. **Developer response:** Ich bin über das Formular auf der Webseite ham-radio-apps.com oder (besser) über den "Contact Developer" button innerhalb der App erreichbar. Mit der App kann man durchaus auch im CB Band empfangen aber nicht senden. Das ist deswegen so, weil es in Deutschland nicht erlaubt ist mit dem FlexRadio im CB Bereich zu arbeiten. Es wäre toll, wenn Du Deine Bewertung entsprechend aktualisieren könntest. Für Fragen stehe ich jederzeit zur Verfügung. 73s, Marcus, DL8MRE Strange ### 1/5 — App says it’s free, but then you have to pay to use it. *2021-05-30, version 3.9.22* The app can be downloaded for free, but then requires a $60 in-app purchase to use even its core functionality. The price isn’t the issue, it’s reasonable for what the app does, the approach just comes off as scammy as I’ve now downloaded an app that essentially does nothing without at least one additional purchase. Just list the price in the store. I’m frankly surprised Apple allowed this. ### 1/5 — Not ready *2020-08-30, version 3.9.04* Crashes every time I use it for more than 3 minutes. Lost 3 DX calls in progress. Crashed. No info. No reason. Simple setup. Just up and crashed. $60 wasted. Flex 6400M latest iPhone. Software engineer by trade. Seriously. This app is amateur and not in the good way. Flex Systems should be ashamed this is offensively bad. Every other day updating the software kept crashing system. I was spending hours of my day trying to keep windows working. I packed it all in scrapped windows went and bought a new Mac and I used Marcus‘s SDR software to do everything it is fantastic now I play radio with built-in FT8 whisper and logging programs also DXlogger is a fantastic logging program as well and an optional JS8 CALL software everything works radio always hooks up my Flex radio‘s be work better than ever. I was ready to sell all my radios and throw rocks at them . Marcus software save me the radios work fantastic now I have no problems. Flex radio’s are fantastic. Just don’t use Windows and flex software. This is your ticket. Buy his suite of software and it works fabulous. I also have his Icom control software it works beautiful with a 705 and a 9700 works fantastic. This is a software for you if you want it simple and just to work. I recently had a problem with my logbook and Marcus couldn’t have been more helpful in resolving the issue. He went above and beyond my expectation in doing this. Thank you Marcus. ### 5/5 — Perfect *2025-09-03* Just got back on the radio after 2 years QRT and delighted to find the app is working better than ever on IOS and on my MacBook. Easy to use and supports CW decode, HF Fax, PSK, SSTV and FT8/4. The Mac version also has RTTY. Useful tools include band plan, call lookup, PSK reporter and logbook amongst other things. I see Marcus now also has an SDR app for the IC705 (and other Icom radios) so I’m tempted to buy one of them for /P operating. **Developer response:** There would have been a solution if you would have contacted me. The implementation is superb and includes many features not in the windows version. Naturally some things are easier in the shack with dual 4k monitors; but within that limit every function is doable. Also app support is great. Detailed and rapid. My experience is with iPad Pro 12.9 6th gen, Flex 6400, TGXL, and PGXL. I have used an iPhone 15 and it works remarkably well but I REALLY recommend the big iPad if you can. SmartSDR is intelligent, very complete, easy to use and very stable. The latest version is even more so. What a joy! I literally just tried FT8 for the first time from my iPhone while laying in bed. Would love (and would pay) for the ability to do Winlink from the app somehow.
