It seemed to me when I put the car in cruise control, which also had Hill assist. And breaking assist, I could feel the shifts more than when I was just driving without cruise control. I know I don’t jerk the car off the line to speed away or to speed up and break hard. Overall, a great experience. You guys need to look at this app and redesign it if I’m to use this app then it should be fair on how it rates your driving! Look at other insurance company’s driving apps and use that as a base because your app is not cutting it with me! Who will remember and cancel the trips before 24hours. I agree with the majority of reviews that this app is flawed. I get penalized for “smooth driving” because where I reside thankfully have speed bumps and some streets have bumps in the road from the Department of Streets poorly fixing/patching potholes. They want you to drive at a Time and Day where you are at work lol. And forget about driving at rush hour to get home or past 8pm, which is considered “risky” I do not use my phone while driving and I get penalized for that too. I think the app doesn’t recalibrate accurately. I’m glad AAA ended it. ### 1/5 — Tracking is wrong *2025-08-13, version 1.17.2* I purposely drove on an empty street. Drove between 20 & 25 mph, 5 mph below the speed limit. There was only 1 stop light. I started to slow down a full street away and rolled at 2 mph to the light before coming to a stop. My coffee barely moved when I came to a full stop. When I came back the next day to review the trip, I got a 68 for smooth driving, and 65 for speed. As expected, this app is NOT accurate. Why are we handcuffed to this awful app for a discount on car insurance? ### 1/5 — Big brother is watching *2025-02-06, version 1.16* To get my insurance discount this app wants to monitor me 24 hours a day. I’m ok with monitoring me while I’m driving but it is a invasion of my privacy to have to have the app monitor while I’m not driving. I’m considering switching insurance companies. SMARTtrek responded to my review. They make it seem like it’s normal to invade my privacy by wanting 24/7/365 tracking of my whereabouts. As I said before, I’d AAA explained it that way I never would have taken the insurance. If I’m a passenger in a car it’s tracking me, if I’m riding my bike it’s tracking me. Any activity not involving driving my car is none of their business. NONE. ### 1/5 — Will not delete from phone *2025-01-15, version 1.16* Finished my AAA safe driving time and deleted the APP but it is still asking if I am driving when I finish my trip! You have to consciously remember to remove yourself if you didn’t drive within 24 hours or you’re stuck with someone else’s driving being recorded. It doesn’t tell you where you were docked so you can’t check to see if it’s correct or not or figure out how you can improve your driving. The app regularly dings you for nonsense. It continuously give me “poor phone habits” while my phone is in my pocket for the duration of the trip. No hands free. No music playing. Please don’t reply to this review, because I don’t care. You KNOW your data is flawed… you know this is an overreach. So I could eat a whole meal while driving my car, have conversations with people in my car, and do a whole host of other things considered distractions and it has no impact on this score. Meanwhile, I have 7 speed bumps that I go over every time I leave/enter my community, which you have no way to account for, other than to ding me for “smooth driving” Also, let me tell the school I can’t drop the kids off at 7:45 cause it’s a “risky” time to drive… hahaha! This was after almost 9 months, 750 trips, and a bit over 5300 miles. A final score of 89 got me the max discount of 20%. The most important thing is to secure your phone so it never moves while driving. I set it on a small rubber pad in the phone tray and plugged it in each time. It is also very important that you don’t go over the speed limit, even by 1-2 mph. Be aware of your speed and use cruise control. Always drive in eco mode, accelerate gradually, and brake gradually well ahead of the stopping point. Don’t follow vehicles closely. Stay in the slow lane. Pay attention to the metrics in the app and adjust your habits.
