Looking for a new app to use with my Zmodo cameras. ### 1/5 — Ads? Seriously? *2026-06-17, version 1.2.38* Adding adds to SECURITY CAMERAS is literally the most stupid thing ever! So if there’s an EMERGENCY I have to WAIT FOR AN AD? Are you serious? SO USELESS! ### 1/5 — Ads for paying customers?!? *2026-06-06, version 1.2.38* Really?!? I have an annual subscription and I’m getting ads just to see my cameras?!? I’ve seen the developers response that they are working on it? No, you’re not! It’s a simple code fix and you’re trying to generate more revenue. You need to fix it or risk losing more subscribers. I’m already looking for other systems that wouldn’t dare invoke ads to paying customers. I totally understand free services, but not paying customers that have annual subscriptions. So, if this isn’t resolved soon, you’re losing another paying customer. UPDATE: You ask us to contact your customer support team, for what? If there’s nothing that can be done about it right now what is contacting your support team going to do again? It’s a simple code fix you could do it. You choose not to. You are actually trying to push your customers away. Nobody wants to pay for ads I don’t like looking at ads every time I need to look at my cameras. Contacting your customer support team will do absolutely nothing other than generate a ticket that sits in a queue and eventually, if you guys decide to fix it, unless you wanna start giving money back to your paying subscribers for the inconvenience of opening up ads. Personally, I think any, and all of us paying customers should be reimbursed for the hassle of this screwup of having ads every time ### 1/5 — Security camera app w/ ads *2026-06-05, version 1.2.38* I bought these cameras to be able to look back on events, as well as for emergencies. Imagine laying in bed and you hear a noise. You open the app to see if there is an intruder but WAIT…first you must watch an ad. Seriously?! I pay a monthly subscription to be able to store 24 hrs in the cloud and now you’ve added ads? Fortunately the cameras weren’t too expensive. I will count this as a loss and go with a different brand like Ring that actually cares about security 🙄 ### 1/5 — Ads! An improvement in the ad system would be for the ad to be on mute for subscribers so it is not playing the sound at full volume immediately when I open the app. Right now I have to make sure the volume is off before opening the Smartz app or else it’ll be playing the video full blast volume and it will annoy everyone around me. Recordings are there for replay but live video shows the “Device Offline” watermark on top of every camera view as if it cannot talk to the camera to pull video. My internet is working since my Ring and all other IoT devices work so it must be just Zmodo not working. Now with this update that was listed as “bug fixes” instead of update to insert ads in to the app. You can’t see anything in a timely manor and I’m getting notifications from the app to watch ads. Will be cancelling our membership and removing the cameras this weekend. I love it because you did not have to buy storage if you didn’t want to save your videos. I was only interested in Real time videos when I connect to a Camera. With the recent update however this is now impossible! The first screen is after opening the app an ad! You have to click a tiny bar on the top to get to your cameras, while accidentally clicking the HUGE ad. If I want to check my front Gate camera in a hurry, I have to wait for the app to open, the ad screen to load, click that tiny bar get the camera screen to load then click on my camera. This has it completely unusable. I understand if you want to sell additional services, but then move to a paid version, but not sneakily updated and make it unusable for anyone who doesn’t want to purchase storage space. ### 1/5 — Ads even when your a paid subscriber *2026-06-19, version 1.2.38* Every time I access the app I have to go through an ad even when I’m a paid subscriber. Their website doesn’t work and when I finally found an email address to reach out I didn’t get a response. **Developer response:** Hi, A partial outage resulted in our website and login/authentication system being down temporarily for some customers. Services were restored yesterday and should be working properly again now. If you have any further questions, please reach out via support@smartz.cloud. Agents are only available Monday through Friday so any emails will be responded to today. That said, if you had emailed the email I provided here, you may have received a bounce reply if you contacted during the outage as the email was also impacted by the outage. ### 3/5 — Recent update ruined the iOS version of the app *2026-08-05, version 1.2.38* The Zmodo cameras are a great value, but sadly, the most recent app update includes full page ads that completely block access to cameras. There’s no way to close the ad, thus rendering the app completely useless. Contact with the company has not resolved the issue. As things currently stand, I strongly suggest that you steer clear of cameras and apps from Zmodo, MeShare, Smartz. I am VERY dissatisfied! Update: After repeated pleas, the developers finally created a way to close the ad and view the cameras…THANK YOU As a result, I am revising my review from 1 star to 3. ### 3/5 — Ads to view cameras *2026-05-18, version 1.2.38* I have to watch an ad and wait for the timer to finish to be able to access my camera, could not find a way to opt out of the ads.
