## What is SMD?

SMD is a watchOS app that turns Apple Watch into a magnetic detector and provides haptic alerts for nearby magnetic field changes.

You can switch between the analog clock screen and the Settings screen with a swipe.

SMD offers two operating modes: Manual Mode and Motion Mode.
In Manual Mode, detection starts and stops with a tap.
In Motion Mode, raising the wrist starts the sensor, and briefly holding still completes the set process and makes the app ready to use. Lowering the wrist stops sensing. Motion Mode also supports tap-based OFF and re-set actions.

Detection and alerts become active only after baseline acquisition is complete. Sensitivity can be adjusted from the Settings screen using the Digital Crown.

The Settings screen shows ON / OFF status, X / Y / Z values, mode switching, sensitivity, and version information. When magnetic reference is inactive, X / Y / Z values are shown as -.--.

### 2/5 — Can you fix the vibration issue?

The app vibrates once when detecting a magnet and then doesn’t at all (SE 3).

**Developer response:** In the current version, to avoid false detections, a second (haptic) feedback will not occur unless the detected magnetic field drops below a certain threshold value.

If a second notification does not occur, it can be inferred that, under the current specification, the Apple Watch is continuing to detect magnetic data that does not actually exist. For this reason, triggering feedback continuously whenever the value exceeds the threshold would be expected to result in a significantly higher rate of false activations, which is why the current specification has been adopted.

If detection only occurs once, please consider the following possibilities:

1. You have not moved sufficiently away from the magnet. The threshold for "sufficiently away" is positioned slightly on the magnet side of the midpoint between the location where the device was turned on and the point where the first feedback was triggered.

2. The device's magnetic data has not been refreshed. Please refer to the values displayed on the settings screen. If there is an issue with the data not updating, lightly moving the device (rolling it slightly back and forth) will trigger a data refresh.

3. The device itself has become magnetized. In this case, turning it off and back on will reset the initial value and allow it to function properly.

If detection does not occur again even after moving beyond the threshold point, please consider that the device may have become magnetized or that there is an issue with the magnetic data update.

Finally, if you would like to toggle the feature on and off each time, we recommend looking into the Motion Mode specification.
