### 4/5 — Review

*2025-01-12, version 2.2.0*

The app is great. Being able to add additional family members and custom rewards or wrong behaviour is super. The kids seem to be engaging with it well. It could be improved by to be able to customise the child’s photo/ profile picture. Otherwise the best free rewards app I have seen so far.

### 2/5 — Was a good app

*2023-07-25, version 2.1.3*

I used to use this app every day and loved it. Unfortunately the app updated, logged me out and there is no password reset so everything is lost. Back to paper chards and reward stickers for us!

### 2/5 — Frustrating

*2023-02-06, version 2.1.2*

Difficult to edit once you set up a board. Purchased the year subscription (with 1 month trial period) and was charged right away. I assumed I’d have the trial period before being charged. Not pleased with this app.

### 2/5 — Buggy Lately

*2022-11-10*

Was working fine for a while then logged me out. Tried to sign back in gave me the message
“the data couldn’t be read because it Isn’t in the correct format” tried creating a new account and the same message appeared. Also I find it alarming that there isn’t a “forgot password?” To assist in recovering an account through email if I forget the password. I spent a good amount of time creating the perfect custom layout and rewards and I would rather not have to do it again.

### 5/5 — Great idea!

*2022-03-02*

We’ve been on this for two days now. So far, it’s working great to motivate my 12 and 8 year old daughters! The only thing is I wish they had a slightly “older kid” version instead of smiles and frowns - maybe thumbs up and down? The last two days we’ve had a noticeable reduction in outbursts, fights, and improvement on their attitudes 👏🏻👏🏻 thank you! I will update in a month on our progress!

### 5/5 — Custom behaviors a plus

*2022-02-22*

This app works well as a visual for my child. It’s pretty easy to use. I like that has a cost response for negative behavior not just positives. My child needs the balance. I also value the ability to create custom behaviors. That ability is what made me choose it above other apps!

### 4/5 — Quick Response on Defects

*2022-01-09, version 2.0.6*

So far so good on the tool. We’re just getting used to it and came across some issues, but the response has been quick.

### 4/5 — Good, could be great.

*2021-12-01, version 2.0.6*

Allowing more personalization and fun stuff for the kids to make the layout their own would make this even better.

### 5/5 — Great app tor encouraging good behavior

*2021-05-01*

I got this app for my 4 year old daughter and use it to help her collect happy faces for good behavior which will result in rewards once she’s amounted her happy faces. She also collects sad faces for unwelcomed behavior... She has learned since I started using the app, that if shes about to get a sad face, she can pull herself together and turn that sad face into a happy face by correcting her behavior. It’s a win win for me!

### 4/5 — Great App! A few bugs

*2021-04-12*

This is fantastic tracker our family can use to motivate our kiddo. Showing him the visual of getting a “smile” and cashing in tickets is terrific! Video ads on free version FYI.
It has been known to stall, slow to sync with family so hopefully they can fix bugs. Altogether very useful but still needs a little refinement for 5 stars.

**Developer response:** Hi CityJuls!

Thanks for the nice review, and rest assured... we are on the bug patrol! Version 2.0 was a particularly big update, so we’re scanning constantly for any issues and will be getting out fixes as quickly as possible. Our goal is to catch them all, get up to that 5-Star for you, and keep making Smiles & Frowns the best it can be for families everywhere. And please always feel free to send your thoughts, comments and ideas to the support link in Settings. We’re here to help!

### 5/5 — Life changing

*2021-03-04*

My little is now listening better than ever and so excited to push the button to get the smiles! I’m not constantly battling anymore and just needs a gentle reminder of smiley face behavior!!! Thank you so much for making an effective tool for rewarding the positive behavior I want to instill in my littles!

### 5/5 — Positive reinforcement

*2021-01-30, version 1.6.4*

We love this app! We don’t use the frowns as we’ve learned in psychology positive reinforcement is best! The kids love that they pick their rewards and can work towards it! For us 100 smiles = sleep over with mom or dad! Love it!!!

### 5/5 — Making mom’s life easier!

*2020-12-22, version 1.6.4*

My daughter has autism and she has taken to this quite easily. She loves earning her smiley faces and reflects on her behavior at night for the frowns. Great app!

### 5/5 — Amazing

*2020-12-16, version 1.6.4*

We’ve always had behavioural issues with our son. He is now 10 and reward / consequences systems we’ve used in the past just haven’t lasted. He would screw up the paper tacked on the fridge. He is such a technology based child and I recently came across this app to trial with him after he lost all of his technology use for really poor behaviour. I set it up with the different choices of behaviours we wanted to start seeing used more often and reward when we saw it. I explained how it was going to work with him before we used it (50 smiley face = technology returned to normal weekly usage rights) 10 frowns after getting it back means he will loose it again. He was very happy with this arrangement. It is working more AMAZINGLY than we could have imagine! You guys have literally changed our lives and I cannot thank you enough 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼

### 5/5 — Helps with positive reinforcement

*2020-11-08*

Our kids are intense and have some extra needs and any sort of scolding backfires big time, especially for our middle guy. This app has helped us be positive and look for positive behaviors and reward the things we like to see. The kids like how they can get different kinds of rewards and they feel good about themselves because we are mentioning positive things more than negative. It has helped us improve the family dynamic. Customer support was helpful for me for a little glitch I encountered. It’s obvious that the company is run by folks who believe in their product and hope it will benefit humans out there :) It has definitely helped us! For us an app is easier than a sticker chart or marble jar or something. When I don’t want to bring out the phone I jot the smiles down on scrap paper and add them later. But if I lose track of a few the kids don’t realize (don’t tell them!) and we still get the emotional benefit. I catch most of them though :)

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Can’t log in

*2025-04-20, version 2.2.0*

Was an amazing app until it decided it didn’t want to work all I get now is sync error mulitiple validation error message which is disappointing as this app worked well for my kids

### 1/5 — Doesn’t work

*2023-07-29, version 2.1.3*

Makes you do full set up and then ‘server error’ and doesn’t work! Such a shame

### 1/5 — Very abelilest

*2022-12-13*

This app has things like eye contact and social tone as good behaviors. Now you may not relive it but why your child doesn’t make eye contact is because it ether is very uncomfortable or physically painful and you would never want to put your child through pain. And making “social tones” is forcing your child to put on a fake face for people so that you are not ashamed. If you want to reword your child for doing something hard then do but not through an ableist app that calls it a good or bad behavior

### 1/5 — You can’t add a custom frown

*2022-01-15, version 2.0.6*

When added from the frowns daily adding, it ends up in “smiles”, and can’t be changed

### 1/5 — Liked it but now locked out

*2020-10-29*

Used this for a year or so. Liked spending system for rewards. Tried to give husband access and in the long process ended up not being able to change password, trying to use “forgot password” option but got an error message stating my email format was invalid. But when try to set up new account using that exact same email, for a message saying that account already exists. Don’t want to set up a new account anyway since setting goals and behaviors is VERY time consuming and not user-friendly.

**Developer response:** Hi AveMaria,

We as SO sorry that you're having an issue with this! Thanks to your help, though, we've already fixed this issue and you should be good to go now. If you have any problems at all, please contact us at heydad@smilesandfrowns.com and we will have you back up and running – with all your behavior boards intact – in no time at all!

### 1/5 — Can’t contact support

*2018-11-16, version 1.5.11*

Keep trying to contact them and it kicks me out!

### 1/5 — App shut down and couldn’t connect with FB

*2018-03-04, version 1.5.1*

Tried to start a new account by linking Facebook to the app; the app gave an error within FB, and when I hit okay, the app and FB shut down. I thought this would be a cool app for my children, but you all obviously have some R&D to perform to work the links/kinks/errors out.

### 1/5 — Changed to paid version without warning!?!

*2017-09-19, version 1.2*

I'm very disappointed as I was forced to login today in the free version and all the information that I had for my three kids had been completely erased!!! Without warning!!! How do I explain that to my kids? Not cool! If you had warned me about it, I would have considered buying the paid version. But I am not going to play your silly bait and switch game!

### 1/5 — Great When It Works

*2016-12-16, version 1.2*

I realize that this any newer app is bound to have a few bugs, and will adjust my rating accordingly as it (hopefully) improves. I immediately loved its simplicity. I tried the 'Around the House' board first, and realized that the custom board would work better, so I purchased and customized it. It's great for my family, and I love that my husband can also stay up to date on the kids' behavior while he's working out of town. After using it for a few hours, I also purchased the ad-free version. Today has been my second day using it, and it's now crashing every time I attempt to view the *rewards page. Hopefully this is a quick and easy fix, not only because I've spent more than I normally do on apps, but because I really do like the format and look forward to using it regularly.

*I was actually trying to access the page to send a screen shot and recommend it to my friends.

-Update: A few weeks later, it still isn't working. REALLY disappointed!

-Update 2: A couple more weeks and still nothing! I'm removing a star from my rating. I paid for extra features in this app and I can't even use it.

### 1/5 — Deleting this app

*2016-07-01, version 1.1*

Isn't that intuitive and st first appears free. Within 5 minutes of installing found that adding behaviours to reward was 79p each! Deleting this app.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Great for tracking behaviour and rewards

*2025-01-04, version 2.2.0*

Great for tracking behaviour and rewards

### 5/5 — Love this app!!!

*2023-11-20, version 2.1.3*

It helps with my sons emotions and he loves earning points and gets upset when he loses points but is ready to earn points

### 5/5 — Great incentive!

*2023-04-18, version 2.1.3*

Kids of 9 and 6 definitely respond to this app

### 5/5 — Brilliant

*2023-04-03, version 2.1.3*

Fantastic App! Really works. My kids behaviour has improved overall, and they get real rewards at the end of it. Great! It’s become part of the family

### 5/5 — Great Free App!

*2022-11-05, version 2.1.2*

It’s working well so far for our 4 year old son. I love that it lets you share to multiple devices all for free.

### 5/5 — Love it!

*2022-10-25, version 2.1.2*

We are loving this app. The kids like they can trade their smiles for rewards and I like that I can give them smiles and frowns anytime.

### 5/5 — Kids love it

*2022-10-16, version 2.1.1*

Works great for motivating positive behavior or negating the negative.

### 5/5 — Easy to use!

*2022-10-11*

My daughter has autism and this has been a great way to help her with behaviors! I always have my phone with me so I can immediately reward her instead of a paper chart at home.

### 5/5 — So far so good

*2022-08-17*

My kids love earning smiles and it’s a great way to review the day and talk about the choices the kids made especially when they get frowns! I also love that I can add a comment about what was happening at the time to remind me to revisit and discuss the behavior later. It’s great for setting goals for the next day and talking about specific areas they can improve. It gets them to be more responsible for their behavior as well as reflect on their choices. The only thing this app is missing is I would love a sound effect to go with the smiles to get the kids even more excited so it’s like a mini celebration when they do good. We have one of those expensive good timers and this is so much more convenient on the go and gives much better feedback on their behavior !

### 5/5 — Love this

*2022-03-18, version 2.0.6*

Motivates the children to be on their best behaviour and the main features are free. Thanks for creating something like this. Whoever came up with it is brilliant.
