## What is Snacco?

Scan a dog or cat food label, barcode or product name. Snacco flags known species-specific toxins against a curated, cited danger list and shows a plain result: AVOID, CAUTION or no toxins detected.

Label and barcode checks are free, with no account or daily limit. Recall alerts re-check your on-device history without sending us what you scanned.

RULES JUDGE — NOT AN AI GUESS
Snacco uses fixed rules to check ingredients against published toxin references. A model never decides the verdict, and every finding cites its source. If a label is hard to read, Snacco asks you to try again rather than guess.

THREE WAYS TO CHECK — FREE, EVERY TIME
• Scan the ingredients label, read on your device
• Scan the barcode using an open pet-food database
• Search by product name

DOGS AND CATS, CHECKED SEPARATELY
Add a dog, a cat or both. Snacco checks each pet against its own cited toxin list. Xylitol and macadamia are dog-only dangers in Snacco's references, while onion and garlic affect both species and cats are more sensitive. Mixed household? Snacco can also flag a risk for the other pet without changing the active pet's verdict.

US FDA AND AUSTRALIAN RECALL ALERTS
Snacco checks published US FDA pet-food recall notices plus Australian ACCC recalls, and can alert you when a food in your on-device history appears to match. Australian notices are clearly identified because US stock can differ. Recall matching stays on your phone, so our server never receives your scan history.

OPTIONAL PHOTO CHECKS WITH SNACCO+
Point the camera at a food and Snacco identifies it before applying the same fixed toxin rules. Photo checks require Snacco+. For this optional feature only, a downscaled, metadata-stripped photo is securely sent to Anthropic's Claude AI solely to name the food, then deleted from Snacco's temporary cache.

PRIVACY BY DESIGN
No account. No ads. No tracking. Label photos are read on your device and never uploaded. Optional recall alerts use an anonymous push token that is not linked to your scan history.

Snacco is an informational tool — not veterinary advice and not a medical device. If you're worried about something your pet ate, contact your veterinarian or a local animal poison-control service.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 3.1 — 2026-08-23

Photo checks now require Snacco+ and use Apple app verification plus a server-side subscription check before processing. This update also improves photo-check loading, purchase recovery, offline guidance, temporary-photo cleanup and accessibility.

### 3.0 — 2026-07-23

Save regular foods to My Foods, search your scan history, and capture long ingredient labels across up to three photos. Snacco now watches published US FDA pet-food recall notices alongside Australian ACCC recalls, highlights recent danger-list additions, and adds an emergency result card plus seasonal Australian danger reminders. Label, barcode and product searches remain free.

### 2.0 — 2026-07-15

Snacco now supports cats. Add dog and cat profiles, get species-specific toxin checks, see cross-species warnings for mixed households, add pet photos and filter history by species. Label, barcode and product searches remain free.

### 1.1 — 2026-07-09

Checking a food is now faster from the first frame to the verdict:

• Verdicts appear right over the camera — read the result, then keep scanning
• Type or paste an ingredient list to check a food without its packet
• Danger Foods A-Z — search what dogs can't eat and why
• A recall alert inbox, plus checks run for each of your dogs
• Snacco+ photo checks can now use photos from your library
• A home-screen scan shortcut, smoother history, and accessibility improvements throughout

Label scans and recall alerts stay free. Always.

### 1.0 — 2026-07-06
