I’m hoping for better results in the future. So far, from just pictures I took from online, not live, it hasn’t been very accurate. In fact, the same picture was identified as two different snakes.

**Developer response:** Hi Jack, thanks for the honest feedback and sorry the results have not been reliable so far.

A few things that make a big difference:

1. Use two photos per identification instead of one. A second angle, ideally showing the head and body pattern, gives the app much more to work with.
2. Set the US state where the snake was spotted. Range data rules out lookalikes that are not found in your area, and it is often the difference between a correct ID and an incorrect one.
3. Clear, close, well lit photos of the actual snake (when possible to take safely) work best. Images saved from the web are often cropped, filtered, or low resolution, which is likely why the same picture came back with two different results. Many snake species genuinely look alike, so photo quality matters a lot.

This app is a great tool for hikers and people who enjoy outdoors. I live in the DC area and there are a few venomous snakes here. This app helped identify the copperhead we came across on a hike and we were able to alert the park ranger. Highly recommend the app!

Used this to identify a snake in the DC area on a hike. It was very quick and provided helpful info. Highly recommend. Great app to have, especially during the hot summer months when the snakes are active.
