The remote would not connect to the hub. Instead was placed into an infinite loop of installing the firmware. I had to remove the remote in the app, restart the application, for the remote to be recognized. The English translation is also lacking to say the least. For example, the common practice for users to acknowledge a successful installation is to click a button that says OK. Instead, the button says sure. Are you asking am I “sure” this installed successfully. Not a good first impression. The remote now works at least. ### 4/5 — Nice *2026-06-28, version 4.1.3* There’s a manual? Who needs a manual. This remote works great on my Apple TV 4K. The only thing it doesn’t do is voice dictation with Siri, at least I can’t figure out how to do that. ### 2/5 — Needs lots of work *2026-06-06, version 4.1.1* As a software developer of 20+ years and longer A/V aficionado and a long time user of Harmony remotes, this app does little to fill the void. I had moderate hopes but it didn’t even meet that. Setting up the hub saw constant connection losses, forced app closes, device restarts. Adding devices take 5-30s between steps doing some sort of syncing. Took hour to get just 3 devices. It was painful. And often times it just fails and you have to start all over. Bugs and slowness everywhere. All that said, once it finally did manage to wrangle it together it did work. Click latency was better than expected after the slow setup process. If you can fight through the app, it will work. Just painful. Hardware wise it’s great. If the app can improve, it has great potential. But right now it’s nowhere close. ### 3/5 — Tablet-Modus? *2026-06-01, version 4.1.0* Im Prinzip ganz gute App, hätte ich vor Jahren mit der X1 in Betrieb. Damals war die Hardware der Remote leider noch nicht so prickelnd, knarzende Schalter und auch das Scrollwheel war nicht mehr zuverlässig. Die Konfiguration der Remote über die App war damals auch teilweise noch tricky. Offenbar hat sich an der Qualität der Hardware aber wohl etwas getan, wenn man den Tests glauben darf. Daher wird demnächst mit der U3 nochmals getestet. Aber: Tablet-Modus wäre schon gut, ich hoffe, der kommt zeitnah. ### 3/5 — Buggy and constant “phone requires wifi connection” errors despite having functioning wifi *2026-05-12, version 4.0.10* Please for the love of god remove the “phone requires wifi connection” error that pops up constantly. Every few seconds! My phone has 2 or 3 bars of wifi and is fully functional both to browse the web and use your app and connect to my sofabaton x2 hub. It seems you programmed this error to pop up as soon as phone wifi drops from 3 bars down to 2 bars. Your phone can work fine with two bars of wifi. Remove your stupid error alerts please! ### 3/5 — Eigentlich top, aber der Bluetooth-Schlafmodus nervt extrem (Fire TV) *2026-01-25, version 4.0.8* Ich nutze die SofaBaton U2 als Ersatz für meine alte Logitech Harmony. Von der Haptik und der Einrichtung per App bin ich eigentlich überzeugt – vor allem die echten Zahlentasten sind heute Gold wert. Aber ein Punkt trübt den täglichen Gebrauch massiv: die Steuerung von Bluetooth-Geräten wie dem Fire TV Stick. Die Fernbedienung scheint extrem aggressive Stromspareinstellungen zu haben. Sobald man ein paar Minuten keine Taste gedrückt hat, geht sie in einen Tiefschlaf. Das führt dazu, dass man beim Fire TV immer zweimal drücken muss: Der erste Klick weckt die Fernbedienung auf und stellt die Bluetooth-Verbindung wieder her, erst der zweite Klick führt den Befehl aus. In der Praxis ist das unglaublich frustrierend, wenn man nur mal kurz "Pause" machen oder spulen will. In Foren ist das Problem bekannt, aber ein Firmware-Update, das den Standby-Timer anpassbar macht, lässt auf sich warten. Wer viel über Fire TV oder Apple TV streamt, sollte sich dieses "2-Klick-Verhaltens" bewusst sein. Für reine Infrarot-Geräte (Receiver, TV) ist sie super, aber die Bluetooth-Umsetzung wirkt leider nicht zu Ende gedacht. Bitte nachbessern, SofaBaton! ### 4/5 — Gute Funktionalität *2026-01-21, version 4.0.8* Die X1S funktioniert soweit gut, alle meine Geräte werden unterstützt. 2 Dinge nerven: das Rollen des Display ist hakelig. Sony Bravia TV lässt sich nicht immer einschalten, sodass leider die Sony Fernbedienung auf dem Tisch liegen muss. ### 2/5 — An OK Remote *2026-01-21, version 4.0.8* Main issue is that the navigation buttons (up-down, left-right) are overly sensitive. When sitting in a dark home theater then pulling up the app is blinding. Support dark mode already. Outside of that, it does take some work to setup devices and activities but once you work it out it does the job. Harmony wasn’t much easier to get going TBH in a complex home theater. I do like the custom IP options as I use those with Hone Assistant or Node Red web hook based automations for dealing with lighting via Lutron and a couple other things so supplement the controls. Bottom line is if you’ve got a complex home theater you shouldn’t be looking for a simple remote solution. ### 4/5 — What I expected *2025-10-12, version 3.4.9* The app is pretty easy to use if you have any previous experience with URC or Harmony programming. For the U2 side, programming is very basic as I had expected. If the exact model of the tv or media device isn’t listed if you find a model close to it; it works. The reason I didn’t give this 5 stars is because this is a DIY app and I feel it should be more beginner friendly for those who don’t have prior experience. ### 2/5 — This app is really petty trash… *2025-09-16, version 3.4.9* It does the job, but it could do it WAY better. If you go to -> Edit -> Startup settings you can add all the commands you want!…but you can’t delete them. The only way to do that (as far as I can tell) is to delete the entire activity and start over. And Repair. It would be lovely if it had a button to apply the changes so you know that they HAVE been applied. And then there’s no iPad app. No widget. There’s not even a dark mode! Honestly I really dislike my SofaBaton X1S. It’s nowhere as great as my Harmony was. Sigh. Thanks, Logitech, for discontinuing an awesome product! ### 2/5 — Poor *2025-08-04, version 3.4.9* Buggy, loses settings, clunky to use. The saving process is tiresome. The U2 is supposed to support 15 devices. I’m at 11 devices and can add no more commands due to running out of memory. ### 2/5 — It’s ok but needs work *2025-08-02, version 3.4.9* Good basic fallback but still has some annoying issues. The biggest one is that it often complains about not being connected to WiFi even though it is. It sometimes works even while it’s complaining. This used to not be an issue but it started happening often with a recent update. I also wish there was a way to set the app to start on the activities list as I rarely need direct access to a device. Sometimes app ui controls display weird on smaller devices. There’s no way to resubmit commands for a device you’ve previously submitted. I made major improvements to one I had submitted but I can’t seem to share them. I really want the SofaBaton stuff to succeed so this stuff (particularly the old scroll wheel issue on the physical remote) is a bit sad :( ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Does'nt worth it *2026-06-28, version 4.1.3* The app for these remotes is pretty bad, and last update made it even worst,can't even connect to the hub ### 1/5 — Completely dissatisfied *2026-02-16, version 4.0.9* Lots of bugs. Extremely difficult to set up. Been using Google to find instructions, and they are different than what the actual product and app say. And continuously running into roadblocks. I would never recommend this app to somebody.. And if this is the only app that will work with the universal remote, and hub, then I will return it and go to a different brand. ### 1/5 — 🍌 Produkt *2026-01-30, version 4.0.8* Wenn sich die Entwickler*innen doch einfach etwas mmehr Zeit nehmen würden :( - So kommt es einmal mehr, dass ein Bananenprodukt, welches vielleicht beim Kunden reift, auf den Markt geworfen wird. No idea why their avg rating is so low, but maybe previous versions didn’t work as well? No idea but the current version (as of July 2026) is 5 stars. ### 5/5 — Commandes IP enfin possibles ! *2026-06-27, version 4.1.3* Grace au nouveau modèle X2 j'ai pu enfin piloter toute ma domotique Fibaro (éclairage avec variateurs , climatisation, ...). I paired my remote in under 5 minutes with no issues. The app is well designed, intuitive, and works exactly as expected. Great experience so far. ### 5/5 — Great university remote *2026-05-31, version 4.1.0* This remote doesn’t need wifi to connect it’s using your bluetooth phone connection. It’s really interesting that it’s 2026 and a good universal remote is really a hard find. Unless you want to spend hundreds on a programed one that has to be programmed by a authorized dealer. For the money, the Softbaton a fantastic remote that works really well, also it doesn’t eat batteries either, which many do. My only complaint is you can’t clone them. I have similar setups and would make creating a new one very simple, ### 5/5 — X2 Hue Pro prise en charge *2026-01-08, version 4.0.7* Bonne note car la MAJ prend en charge la lumière Hue Pro et LIFT cela permet d’inclure les lumières dans les scénarios. Sinon c’est un bon service globale. Les fonctions Bluetooth Apple TV et Nvidia Sheild sont un vrai plus. Have Harmony but needed another one for a different room. Controls my TV, NVIDIA Shield, Blu-ray player, VCR, Soundbar. The app takes a bit of getting used to. Once you understand “Activities” it all comes together very nicely. I can program shortcuts for each activity - like switching audio mode from headphones to speakers, and these shortcuts can send IR or Bluetooth signals to multiple devices all with one press of the wheel (once selected). ### 5/5 — Worked well *2025-10-01, version 3.4.9* I feel the app is well designed and I was able to setup my theater in a very short time. Five remotes to one. There are a few more things I want to add to my theater control, one of which is learning a remote as it’s not in the database. I have not done that yet so hoping that functionality works. Edit: I added the remote to learn and it worked perfectly. What the device is a curtain device that I use for my DIY masking for 2.35:1 scope video in my theater. I haven’t had any concerning issues. I can turn on and off activities through HomeAssistant and also send Webhooks from the remote to HomeAssistant such as to run an automation.
