## What is SofaCode?

SofaCode turns your phone or tablet into a remote control for the AI coding assistant already running on your computer — Claude Code, Codex, GitHub Copilot Chat or Local LLMs in VS Code.

Vibe coding, off the desk. Talk to your agent from the couch. Approve its actions from the kitchen. Watch it work from anywhere on your network.

NOT JUST VS CODE — NOW IN BETA
SofaCode started as a VS Code remote. Now it drives your agent in the VS Code editor you actually use: Cursor, VS Code Insiders, VSCodium, Devin (formerly Windsurf) and Antigravity (Google's IDE) — all in beta, right alongside stock VS Code. Same deck, same voice, same real approvals, whichever one you open. (Copilot Chat features apply only where Copilot Chat itself runs: VS Code and Insiders.)

HOW IT WORKS
A small companion daemon runs on your computer next to VS Code — free for Mac, Windows and Linux at https://sofacode.app. The app connects to it directly over your own Wi-Fi, VPN, or mesh network. Nothing routes through a cloud: no relay servers, no accounts, and your code, voice, and sessions never leave your network.

WHAT YOU CAN DO
• Push-to-talk dictation straight into your coding agent
• Live deck that shows working / needs-you / error states at a glance
• Approve or deny permission prompts remotely — real approvals, not keystroke hacks
• Full chat with code boxes, task checklists, and session transcripts
• Drive all three assistants alike — skills, model picker, usage, tasks, permissions and more work the same for Claude Code, GitHub Copilot Chat and OpenAI Codex
• Browse sessions across machines, switch windows, open projects
• File browser, terminal, saved prompts, themes (including LCARS), TTS read-aloud
• Works across editors — VS Code, plus Cursor, Insiders, VSCodium, Devin and Antigravity in beta
• Multiple machines and multiple devices at once

WHAT YOU NEED
A computer running VS Code with Claude Code, Codex or GitHub Copilot Chat — your own assistant subscription — plus the free SofaCode daemon. Copilot Chat can also run local models from LM Studio or Ollama. Setup takes a few minutes with QR pairing. SofaCode is an independent product and is not affiliated with OpenAI, Anthropic, GitHub, or Microsoft.

PRICING
One subscription, one week free, then $5/month or $50/year. Cancel anytime in Settings.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 2.46.0 — 2026-09-27

Screensavers now run at your screen's rate — 60 frames a second — instead of a fixed 30 at most. Every screensaver can be customized: color palettes, a hue dial, speed, density, brightness, and one knob of its own for Night rain, Heat shimmer and Murmuration. Every switch of window or session, at the computer or a pick on any device, now moves every app and the SofaNode together.

### 2.45.1 — 2026-09-25

A version-matched release; nothing changed on iPhone, iPad or Apple Watch in this version. Since 2.45.0: every action that makes your computer do something needs the plan, reading the deck, the sessions and the transcripts stays free, the plans appear the first time a machine connects, and the SofaNode desk device never needs a subscription.

### 2.42.0 — 2026-09-18

See subscription plans from the welcome screen. The plans, the prices and the 7-day free trial used to be reachable only from Settings > Account, on the far side of the setup wizard — so anyone who wanted to know what SofaCode costs before installing anything had to go looking for it. Nothing about the plans themselves changed.

Also in this update: seven screensavers, each with a name, and a new one called Console. The Codex row in Settings no longer opens Claude's picker or types Claude's command at a Codex session — it says a running Codex session cannot be re-modeled instead. Usage replies are matched to the assistant that asked for them, so the title and the numbers can no longer disagree. Mode chips, permission notes and notifications read for all three assistants rather than Claude alone.

### 2.40.0 — 2026-09-16

GitHub Copilot Chat and OpenAI Codex now do everything Claude Code does. Skills and slash commands are listed for each assistant. Codex gets a model list with a default for new sessions, usage and quota with the plan name, honest subagent counts, and its own permission card. The session bar counts each assistant separately, and the memory-file editor names the file each one reads. Needs the desktop app at 2.39.0 for the new lists and numbers.

### 2.36.2 — 2026-09-09

Everything since 2.33.0, in one update:

• A screensaver, like the SofaNode's. When the app is holding the screen on and nothing is working or waiting on you, a moving picture covers it after the idle time you set (five minutes by default) so nothing burns in. Seven styles plus Shuffle, lit from your theme. The first touch brings the app straight back; so does any session becoming busy. Settings › Screensaver.
• Landscape deck. Turn the phone and the deck rearranges itself: the ring on the left, the reading bands on the right, the session rail along the bottom.
• One bar hides either half. Drag the bar between the ring and the chat to tuck either one out of view; drag it back, or tap it, to bring it back.
• Phones stop fighting over the deck. With more than one phone on a daemon, a tap on one no longer re-aims the others.
• Models from your own hardware. With Local LLM turned on in the SofaCode extension, models from LM Studio, Ollama or any OpenAI-compatible server appear in the model picker's LOCAL section.
• Fixes throughout, and both stores now offer the same subscription in the same 173 countries.
