### 2/5 — Good idea but doesn’t work

*2021-07-24, version 2.0*

Every time I put my paper on it and start tracing it reverts to main screen for colour choices

### 3/5 — Was good ... Now unusable

*2018-03-13, version 2.0*

Crashes immediately

iPad Pro 9.7"
iOS 10

### 4/5 — Works Great

*2016-01-10, version 1.0*

It's free and does a great job as a small soft light or put objects on it and use as a light box

### 2/5 — Not Worth It

*2015-12-28, version 1.0*

The point of selecting various colors is to be able to match the practical light in your scene, but this app only lets you select one of about 10 colors, none of which look useable.

### 4/5 — Light box

*2014-10-06, version 1.0*

Simple yet effective. I use it as an alternative light box to draw and trace. Portable, and a no-expense alternative to your usual standalone professional light box or built-in glass panel of a work station desk, when all I needed was for some light drawing (no pun intended). The only thing that would make this a 5-star app would be to add sliders so the colours can be set at different values, or to use a colour wheel, as opposed to ver1.0's basic menu selection.

### 3/5 — Not bad for being free

*2013-03-15, version 1.0*

This free app is actually pretty cool, turning you iPad into a small light source. You won't be able to use it for a main light source, but for adding reflections, or a fill light for close ups it works pretty dang good. I gave it 3 stars because of the lack of options to control the light within the app. If you want to adjust the brightness you'll have to go through the system preferences. If you have multiple iPads I'd imagine you could get some interesting lighting setups.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Unusable

*2024-12-03, version 3.5*

Keeps switching color and and asking for reviews

### 1/5 — Not good for tracing

*2024-10-15, version 3.5*

It does not stay consistently on, wish there was a lock button to keep it from going back to the menu.

### 1/5 — Doesn’t work as a back light for tracing

*2024-06-01, version 3.5*

When you press on it to trace something the page won’t stay up. It always bounces back to the menu page.
Very frustrating

### 1/5 — Advertisement is always white

*2023-07-16, version 3.5*

This is a simple, effective app that I appreciate being able to use occasionally. However, the advertisements are present both on the 'choosing a color' screen AND on the 'Softbox' screen. This kinda (not kinda) defeats the purpose of having a color Softbox when there's a perpetual white advertisement on a portion of the screen.

I'd happily pay a couple bucks to remove the ads.

### 1/5 — Doesn't work

*2019-05-05, version 2.0*

App doesn't open.

### 1/5 — Can't open

*2018-10-02, version 2.0*

Downloaded to my iPad but when I go to open it won't load and kicks me out.

### 1/5 — Freezes

*2015-10-04, version 1.0*

Looked great just after I installed it but every time after that it locked up on the Loading screen and would bot open. A real shame.

### 1/5 — What?

*2013-02-09, version 1.0*

This is the dumbest thing ever

### 2/5 — Has a banner ad at the bottom

*2022-11-01, version 3.1*

The ad at the bottom makes this useless if you want a pure plain screen. You can easily make a plain screen yourself with the photo app so why bother?

### 2/5 — Two stars is being generous!

*2021-12-23, version 2.0*

The light is not bright at all! I am using an iPad 9th Gen. It’s not bright enough for me to see through watercolor paper. Ugh

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — It looks wonderful

*2022-12-01, version 3.1*

But I don’t know how to use it. I was so confused I do not
Want to join this program. And I state that I did not agree to pay. Thank you

### 5/5 — Simple & very effective. Thanks

*2020-07-12, version 2.0*

Works v well as a light box

### 5/5 — Love it

*2020-02-15, version 2.0*

I mainly use this app for flip books but as I started using it I love how it’s brighter than your average lightbox

### 5/5 — Keeps crashing recently

*2018-09-28, version 2.0*

The app had been working fine in the past, but now on my iOS 9.3.5 it kept crashing.

### 5/5 — Great app

*2015-04-30, version 1.0*

Simple, does what it's supposed to do. Thank you very much !

### 5/5 — Great idea

*2014-02-02, version 1.0*

I'm going to use this as a mini light box for my visually impaired students. With a regular light box you can put different objects on top to get your student to focus on them. What I like about this app is that you don't need to always have your larger light box out to use for instruction. You can turn this on, using the color backdrop you want to use for your student, the. Put objects on top that you want them to look at and interact with. I think this app is pretty cool.

### 5/5 — Very Useful

*2013-06-16, version 1.0*

If you are looking for a simple, easy to use coloured light source for photography, this app does the job perfectly.

### 5/5 — Nice app

*2013-03-27, version 1.0*

Nice secondary light source, especially if you use tripod as iPads are not that bright.

Might be useful as light source from underneath if it could be set to allow something to be placed on the iPad. I tried to take a picture of a ring and it kept going to the menu whenever I put the ring on the iPad. (Also, my camera kept picking up moire interference pattern. )

Otherwise, a very interesting application. I've used it with two iPads to light from two angles.

### 5/5 — Simple!

*2012-09-13, version 1.0*

This actually works. I do a lot of impromptu close ups & tabletops and a quick test shows this does exactly what it says it does. Ridiculously simple. It's a handy fill light and I haven't tried it yet, but I reckon it might also function as a chroma key source for little things... Very good.

### 4/5 — Great. Works. But...

*2016-08-16, version 1.0*

I want to use this to take photos of objects placed on the iPad surface. Unfortunately the title bar from the iPad still shows, the time in the top centre as well as the notification of the Bluetooth and battery on the top right. Otherwise, for a free app, this works incredibly well.
