### 5/5 — My most used app

*2025-05-29, version 5.1.5*

This app is perfection. It is easy to use and easy to understand. I can work out daytimes and sunsets of anywhere in the world at any time. It does everything simply and perfectly.

### 5/5 — Super cool app

*2025-03-22, version 5.1.5*

I use this app frequently and it is incredibly intuitive, user friendly, and very informative. Thank you for bringing this fine app forward. jmb

### 5/5 — Perfect

*2025-02-22, version 5.1.5*

I believe static times aren’t how we were meant to operate. I now have an astronomical dawn alarm with options to offset for hunting trips.

Only note is I had to use a search engine and found your webpage which linked to the app store - perhaps add some extra keywords to the App Store listing to help others in the search? (First/last light, hunting alarm etc).

Thanks!

### 5/5 — simple, beautiful, elegant!

*2024-11-18, version 5.1.4*

i hope this app stays for a long time—been using since 2013 and still love its simplicity and graphic beauty. i like the alarms, i use to stay in tune w/ solar noon and sunset. the round graphic helps me digest the phases of light, is fun to use.

### 5/5 — Lifesaving

*2024-11-02, version 5.1.4*

If only I let this app influence my actual life more than I have. I plan to write about this because it is so important not to let the clock rule our lives.

### 4/5 — Fix Needed

*2024-10-17, version 5.1.4*

I’ve been using this app for several years now. Noticed after updating my iPhone to IOS 18.0, that selecting a day other than today is not correct…seems to be a month ahead. For example, if I want to check what time Sunrise occurs on October 28th, I have to select September 28th to get the correct time.

### 5/5 — Golden Hour

*2024-07-09, version 5.1.4*

I love this app. I am alerted when the golden hour is happening which is a great time to take pictures. It indicates the hours in the day and night and the seasons.

### 5/5 — Best app ever!

*2024-07-03, version 5.1.4*

One of my most indispensable apps. The interface is user-friendly and the information is unbelievable. I’m a photographer and an earth scientist, and I can’t even begin to explain how valuable this app is. If I have a smart device, this app will be on it!

### 5/5 — Simple yet useful

*2024-07-01, version 5.1.4*

A surprisingly useful little app. Find solar noon and apply sunblock before you cook. Use it to find the right time to take scenic photos. I imagine there are other uses as well. Simple to use also. 2 years later App is still under active development. The interface has been tweaked a bit to add some polish. Still very good at what it does. Sometimes an app doesn't need to have a million different functions. Simple can be awesome.

A few years later: still awesome, still being polished. Super app for photography.

### 5/5 — One of my favourite apps on my phone

*2024-04-25, version 5.1.4*

I love this app and use it daily. It makes it simple for a modern man like me to return to his natural element and be in tune with the natural rhythm of life through rediscovering “God’s time” as I like to call it.

### 5/5 — Priceless!

*2024-02-09, version 5.1.4*

First, I used this to help me get more in tune with the sun’s position each day, but for the last year or so, I’ve been crafting my days with this app. Alerts for: Morning sunrise; UVA rise (10degrees above horizon); start dinner (2 hrs before sunset); finish eating & add orange glasses (sunset); go to bed! I’m so grateful for the rhythm and awareness this app has established. One hope is that the platform will allow them to expand the number of days that the app can generate alerts after the app is opened. Now it stops alerting after about 10 days, so I have to remember to reopen the app every week or so. It’s a minor inconvenience for the gain received! Hopes: I love that the alerts window gives the time for the next alert, but I really wish that it would sort by time! It would be so nice to see the day ahead.

### 5/5 — I’m a time nerd.

*2023-09-27, version 5.1.4*

I use this app several times a week. Love it!

### 5/5 — Priceless!

### 5/5 — Ten Stars

*2023-09-01, version 5.1.4*

Best in its class.
Combines fantastically prepared interface that has accurate and critical information for photographers, astronomers, and regular people needing solar positioning values as well as golden and blue photography “hours”.
I have probably tried and bought 90% of these in the App Store and this is my immediate GO-TO tool.

### 5/5 — Awesome and essentially perfect

*2023-02-08, version 5.1.2*

This app is amazing, and I use it on a regular basis. It shows me when sunset will be, and when it will get full dark. Also the alarms are amazing. I can set an alarm for six hours before sunset on Saturdays so that I can take a hike and get back before dark.

### 5/5 — Helps me get in touch with nature

*2023-02-05, version 5.1.2*

People don’t pay attention to the sun like they used to, and since my modern lifestyle is indoors, I find it helpful for this app to remind me about various aspects of the sun. Half hour after sunrise is when the sunlight in my side room is most optimal for sun gazing. At sunset, are my children home? These are things I want reminders for, but my calendar or timer can’t help because it changes every day. This app is essential for those who want to orient their day around natural sunlight.

### 5/5 — Love this useful tool

*2022-06-05, version 5.1.2*

Bought this years ago and never had any issues using the app, I love this app especially when traveling and planning events it is helpful to know when the sun is setting. Never felt this way about an app before, so good so reliable

### 5/5 — Rise, travel or work at first light

*2022-04-19, version 5.1.2*

I commute by bike and start at first light to avoid competing with cars on my route. The ability to set the alarm for civil twilight and even offset it for a few minutes after that event lets me know when its about time to leave for work.

Well built and joyfully used. Karma achieved :)

### 5/5 — Great Tool

*2022-03-17, version 5.1.2*

Great Tool

### 5/5 — Great app!

*2022-02-19, version 5.1.2*

Beautifully designed, intuitive to use, very useful & informative. Love that alarms can be set relative to solar periods. Thank you & I look forward to future updates. Highly recommended

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — New version is pitiful

*2021-10-18, version 5.1.0*

Liked the older version much better

### 1/5 — Update is a fail

*2021-10-05, version 5.1.0*

Wow I used to use this app every day. It was the easiest app out there to find golden hour. Update made me take it off my phone.

### 1/5 — Can’t set alarm based on solar azimuth

*2019-11-08, version 5.0.1*

Pointless app because of this limitation

### 1/5 — Alarms don’t work on mute

*2019-03-02, version 5.0.1*

I just slept through my Alarm!!!

EVERY other alarm app works on mute. For sunrise to sunset fasting, and other alarms that are based on Solar time this needs to be a REAL alarm!! When DND is on or the phone is muted the alarm should still work. Every other third party alarm app works for this so somehow this needs to be changed.

### 1/5 — Was good...

*2013-11-26, version 3.0*

Now it's only for IOS 7, everyone who paid for this but can't (or won't) update is effectively ignored by the developer - no more updates or bug fixes.

### 1/5 — Fu...K!!

*2013-08-28*

Return the old icon with a lens!

### 1/5 — Not so good

*2013-03-23, version 1.2.2*

Animation looks nice but lack of practical data such as sunrise sunset direction. Waste of money

### 1/5 — 没有中文，真恶心

*2012-06-20*

没有中文，真恶心

### 2/5 — Paid feature crashes app

*2018-10-11, version 4.0.0*

I paid to unlock all features, tried to set a sunrise alarm (the whole reason I got the app in the first place) and it crashes the app. Cannot actually set the alarm, please fix ASAP.

### 2/5 — Traduction en français

*2014-12-09*

La traduction en français est importante car elle permettrait de s'approprier les mots techniques

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Best app for local solar measurements

*2026-07-03, version 5.1.5*

I love SOL! I had it on my iPhone for many years until it was discontinued. Now only on my iPad, and it is excellent!
Intuitive and informative data about the current status of the Sun. Best thing I like is changing the location and observing the Sun and how it appears much different. You can also time travel and see what the Sun will be like for any date past or present. Cool!

### 5/5 — Still using this app after more than 10 years‼️

*2026-05-31, version 5.1.5*

Favorite feature: set alarm for best time to go for a hike. Feature request: shadow of gnomon should indicate an approximate sundial effect. Recently learned: You need to swipe the area under the date to show more info. Double-tap that to start or start a newsfeed animation.

### 5/5 — Great Alarms & Good UI

*2026-05-11, version 5.1.5*

I like to be outside around sunrise and sunset every day so with its alarms you can offset to solar events it’s great.

### 5/5 — Arctic Day Light

*2026-03-23, version 5.1.5*

Sol Sun Clock is an invaluable resource for my life in the Arctic. Day light changes radically from winter’s twenty one hours of darkness to summer’s twenty four hours of direct sunlight. Knowing the times of sunrise and sunset is critical for photographic interests as well as knowing what light can be expected through each day of the year. The Sol Sun Clock is the most frequently used app of all apps in my iPhone. Thank you for your support and service. AL7MI (Amateur Radio Station Call Sign)

### 5/5 — Perfect & Simple

*2026-02-24*

I’ve been using this app for about 15 years, at first for timing photography during the golden hour, and now also for making sure I’m or there in the fresh air closer to midday for a healthy regulated circadian rhythm.

### 5/5 — Intuitive and just works

*2026-02-20, version 5.1.5*

I wish it had UVB rise and set times (40 degrees) kind of like the golden hour times. Golden hour maxes out at 20 degrees so it can’t be used for this the way it’s programmed.

I also wish it had widgets.

Other than that it’s one of the very best apps out there.

I have to use a combination of Sunrise Sunset app, SolarWatch app, Daylight % app, Sun Exposure app, and this app, to get all the data I need.

### 5/5 — This app rules

*2025-09-26, version 5.1.5*

This app has been a constant on my iPhone for over 10 years and I love it

### 5/5 — J’adore!

*2025-09-23, version 5.1.5*

### 5/5 — Long Time Quality

*2025-08-11, version 5.1.5*

For years, I’ve used this app to plot daylight and nighttime hours as well as the time in between. I’ve also taken many screen shots of the app in various states to regale friends. I really hope the publisher will continue to update the app … but I know nothing is forever. I would gladly pay to continue to have this app in my library. Thanks, Juggleware!

### 5/5 — One of my favorite apps of all time

*2025-06-12, version 5.1.5*

Easy to use, simple, and straightforward, and I’m surprised at all the uses I have found for it – – between travel planning, photography, and just organizing my day outdoors.
