## What is Solar Explorer?

Solar Explorer is an interactive solar system flight experience built for iPhone.

Take manual control of your spacecraft and navigate between planets, moons, the Sun, and the asteroid belt using responsive arcade-style flight controls. Use the planet compass, minimap, distance readouts, and navigation cues to orient yourself across interplanetary space without relying only on autopilot.

Features include:

• Manual flight controls tuned for quick, nimble movement
• Planet selector for fast travel and exploration
• Direction and distance guidance for nearby solar system bodies
• Cockpit-style navigation arc with planet labels and distances
• Minimap showing your position relative to planets and the asteroid belt
• Detailed planet, moon, and Sun visuals
• Asteroid belt objects for added scale and depth
• Proximity protection to prevent flying inside planets or moons
• Optional audio with engine and alert effects
• NASA/JPL Horizons data used for planetary positions when available, with fallback orbital data for offline use

Solar Explorer is designed for relaxed exploration, fast manual navigation, and a sense of scale as you move through the solar system.

## Version history (last 4 releases)

### 2.0.0 — 2026-10-16

Version 2.0.0 introduces a more flexible interface designed for iPhone, iPhone Duo, and iPad.

What’s New:

• New adaptive layouts for different screen sizes and orientations
• Improved support for iPhone Duo and iPad multitasking
• Refined flight controls, navigation controls, compass, and minimap
• Enhanced top-down map with improved camera framing, zooming, tilting, labels, and spacecraft scaling
• More accurate planetary orbit presentation, including Pluto
• Updated launch experience
• Improved spacing, readability, and usability across devices
• Performance, stability, and visual refinements throughout the app

### 1.2.0 — 2026-10-14

Version 1.2.0 brings a richer, more cinematic journey through the Solar System.

Explore new textured moons around Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn, glide through an enhanced Milky Way starfield, and switch to a new top-down orbit view for a clearer sense of scale. Earth now features improved day and night rendering, with city lights, cloud refinements, and more realistic surface detail.

Navigation has also been upgraded with better planet and moon focusing, new night-side and far-side viewing options, improved proximity alerts, smoother controls, and more reliable audio behavior.

This release also includes performance tuning and visual scale refinements throughout the experience.

### 1.1.0 — 2026-09-29

New pilot-style flight controls make Solar Explorer feel more like taking the helm of a tiny deep-space craft. Drag your finger to point the ship’s nose left, right, up, or down, then cruise through the solar system from a cockpit-like perspective instead of simply orbiting around the Sun. Much more “set a course and engage” than “spin the model.”

### 1.0 — 2026-09-22
