### 2/5 — Can you say price gauge

*2026-08-21, version 6.3.1*

I’m so confused. I loved this app for my first child and when it was $9.99/year. I understand inflation, but $99.99/year!?!?! Absolutely not. That’s awful for mothers just trying to learn how to best feed their babies.

### 2/5 — Way overpriced for what you get

*2026-08-15, version 6.2.0*

I never write reviews, but today when again I couldn’t find a basic food in their database I felt forced to write this review! This app charges 100!!! $ a year and doesn’t have a database of many many foods, forcing me to google most of the foods I feed my daughter anyways, so I might as well not have the app altogether. Additionally it does not let you create your own meals for the baby so you can add those easily to the log. I think a huge part of BLW is that babies eat at the family table and get introduced to “adult” foods in a save manner, but good luck finding those in the app… the only reason I give 2 stars over 1 is that their customer service is very nice and helpful

### 3/5 — Breastfeeding moms beware

*2026-08-07, version 6.0.0*

I’ve used this app for both of my kids. I love the serving recommendations for serving different types of food to babies as they grow!!! However, I have noticed that they write about breastfeeding and how frequently babies nurse with a negative tone in their articles. They seem to really encourage weaning by 12mo even though it’s recommended to breastfeed for at least 2 years. I think they need to use more neutral language around how often babies are nursing.

### 3/5 — Got worse

*2026-08-02, version 6.0.0*

I’ve used the free version for years, rly helps with little babies. They just changed it and put 95% of the info /pictures behind a paywall. Really sucks but at least other sites are free.

### 1/5 — Non Functioning

*2026-07-26, version 5.7.0*

I paid the subscription to help me with my baby’s food but it’s just non functioning. Every time I type the ingredients it just completely blanks out and leaves the app. So i pretty much wasted my money. It could be useful for the way to safely serve food for their age but that’s the free option. So i definitely don’t recommend subscribing to it.

### 1/5 — Way to expensive

*2026-07-25, version 5.7.0*

Super annoyed I gave my email and everything THEN it decided to tell me I need to either pay 20 a month or $100 for the app. That’s insane and misleading. Deleted the app literally right after I downloaded it, waste of time.

### 2/5 — Not intuitive

*2026-07-24, version 5.7.0*

The app is nice looking but food options are not extensive and app is not intuitive. My baby tried a bunch of foods already and there is not an easily found way to mark a bunch as tried, you have to find and go i to each food to mark it off as tried. If there is an option to do this its not easily found.

### 1/5 — Expensive

*2026-07-23, version 5.7.0*

Used this app three years ago for $2.99 a month. Is now either $100 for a year or $20 a month. Ridiculous.

### 1/5 — Subscription Required

*2026-07-22, version 5.7.0*

Useless app without signing up for subscription. I couldn’t find any free features.

### 2/5 — Disappointed in the changes

*2026-07-20, version 5.7.0*

I happened upon Solid Starts five years ago when I learned about baby led weaning and it was the best thing!! The app and all the videos on instagram helped me navigate the process of feeding my little one and I raved about it to my friends. Fast forward to 2026 and I’m starting my new baby’s feeding journey and I’m incredibly disappointed by how little content is available without a subscription. The videos and recipes that were formerly free are now not available without a subscription.

### 3/5 — Minor complaints

*2026-07-18, version 5.6.0*

I love the suggestions to serve by age, but I feel that they make it difficult to record the allergens (badges) and it is constantly logging me out. Would appreciate them to fix these bugs.

### 1/5 — Disappointed

*2026-07-14, version 5.5.0*

I'm so disappointed regarding the cost. I used this daily with my first child to ease anxiety around serving food. I physically cannot afford now I'm maternity.

### 1/5 — Paid

*2026-07-13, version 5.5.0*

Everything you can do on the app you have to pay for it’s a waste of time don’t bother downloading it unless you want to pay to use.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — 1 star

*2026-08-23, version 6.3.1*

You have to pay for everything.

### 1/5 — £20 a month

*2026-08-19, version 6.3.0*

Can’t do anything on the app unless you pay £20 a month, waste of time!

### 1/5 — Not a good free all

*2026-08-12*

Everything is mostly paid guidance. Very little info added on free version. Felt misguided.

**Developer response:** Hi there! Wanted to clarify that our popular First Foods Database is free. When the paywall opens, you can simply click the “x” and navigate to the “Foods” tab to access the free database. Here you can find nutrition, choking, allergen, and how to prep info for 500+ foods. Always happy to hear more at solidstarts.com/contact 🤍

### 1/5 — Don’t waste your time

*2026-08-09, version 6.0.0*

This app SUCKS. I’m constantly having to login, and there’s a login bug where upon login the app just spins. Have to force close and open again to use the app. Also, there’s no way to print a recipe. I mean, who would want to print a recipe when they could get their phone dirty while cooking? Absolutely not worth $100 a year.

### 1/5 — Didn’t Save Progress

*2026-08-05, version 6.0.0*

I’ve been adding food over a period of months, and one day it logged me out and deleted all the progress. I had already paid for a premium subscription. Very frustrating.

### 1/5 — Terrible app

*2026-08-03, version 6.0.0*

Basic function doesn’t work. I tried to log food but after selecting a date it takes me to another calendar thats broken. Very frustrating.

### 1/5 — Review

*2026-08-02, version 6.0.0*

Has a subscription. Not worth it

### 1/5 — PLEASE FIX THE CONSTANT SIGN OUT ISSUES

*2026-07-31, version 6.0.0*

This app is great when it’s actually functioning, but I am constantly getting signed out, putting the password in directly from Apple’s password manager, and then being told I don’t have an account. Also, when attempting to troubleshoot this issue repeatedly, the only way to back out of the system that tries to force you into making a new account is to completed delete the app and redownload so you can try again with a different combo. Extremely mad that we paid for this app and it has so many issues.

### 1/5 — I don’t think it’s worth it

*2026-07-31, version 6.0.0*

I found the subscription costs high considering that this same information can be found elsewhere, such as library books and videos.

### 1/5 — Paid for app, but keeps asking for subscription

*2026-07-28, version 6.0.0*

Constantly getting signed out, only to be asked to create new account - so losing all saved foods. I paid for the annual subscription, but keeps asking me to pay to subscribe and locked out of paid features. Help!

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Love the app

*2026-08-07, version 6.0.0*

The best app possible. My girl is 2 years and 10 months now. But thanks to this app she is a experienced eater, because I offered her food the size and shapes the app adviced me when she was a baby. Depends on the child but my child has never chocked trying to eat.

### 5/5 — Starting real food is scary but solids starts gave me the confidence I needed!

*2026-07-27, version 5.7.0*

I tell everyone to get this app when thinking about starting solids. It’s easy to use, easy to navigate and
helps you confidence as a first time mom so much.

### 5/5 — Obsessed!!

*2026-07-27, version 5.7.0*

I love this app so much, it has really helped me overcome my own fears of starting solids. I have learnt a lot about good foods for my children 🤍🥰😍

### 5/5 — Best Resource!

*2026-07-22, version 5.7.0*

As a third time mom I’m still constantly checking solid starts to make sure I’m preparing food in the correct way. It’s my go-to and most trusted resource!

### 5/5 — Amazing

*2026-07-18, version 5.6.0*

Such a helpful app, lots of great features and information.

### 5/5 — I was worried about picky eating, instead my baby tried 200 foods.

*2026-07-17, version 5.6.0*

I really don’t know what I would have done without solid starts. There are numerous significant cases of picky eating (perhaps ARFID) in my family, and I wanted to set my son up with the best possible chance of a healthy relationship with food. In spite of navigating food allergies, my son had ended up being a lover of a vast array of foods, and perhaps more importantly, a lover of eating with family. One of the biggest surprises I had using this app was how much the developmentally on-point serving suggestions seemed to enhance my baby’s interest in each food. Could he have eaten things served in different sizes than the recommendations? Of course, but he was actually more likely to eat the foods when they were served as recommended for his age in the app. I could not be more impressed with an app. It’s a gem.

### 5/5 — Great reference

*2026-07-12, version 5.5.0*

As a board certified Pediatrician, I realized I didn’t know the details of HOW TO feed my child. This app is an excellent resource to any parent who wants to raise a child that eats diverse foods! I recommend to patients regularly.

### 5/5 — Great for starting solids

*2026-07-01, version 5.4.1*

Loved this app my first baby and using it again for my second. It’s so scary to know how to serve foods and what foods to serve your baby. Their chart on how to cut the food for what age group is literally a life saver and gives you so much confidence giving your baby new food!

### 5/5 — Must have!

*2026-06-26, version 5.4.1*

Reference this all the time for baby led weaning! Highly recommend.
