## What is Soliteur?

Play Klondike, FreeCell, Spider, Spiderette, Yukon, Golf, Will o' the Wisp, Australian Patience, Simple Simon, and Baker's Game. Ten classic solitaires, each with multiple variants and difficulty options. Spider and Spiderette pack five tiers from 1 Suit through 4 Suits, with Relaxed group-move rules at every level. Klondike supports Draw 1, Draw 3, and Classic 3-2-1 with configurable pass limits. Yukon, Australian Patience, and Will o' the Wisp each have their own twists. Baker's Game is a stricter cousin of FreeCell where the tableau must be built down by suit instead of alternating colors, considerably harder than its parent. Something for every skill level.

Three fresh FreeCell puzzles every day at Easy, Medium, and Hard difficulty, with the same deals for every player worldwide. Each puzzle is scored: every second costs points, beating par produces a multiplier bonus, and the harder tiers count for more. Climb four Game Center leaderboards (one per tier plus a Daily Total), build perfect-day streaks, and review your past results in the History view.

Each game also has its own Game Center leaderboard, accessible directly from the picker on every Mac, iPad, and iPhone build. Achievements track your milestones across every game and the Daily Challenge.

A built-in music player with ten ambient tracks plays gently in the background. Sound effects, music, and master volume are all controllable independently from both the music player and the Settings panel.

Auto-save keeps your game safe after every move. Resume exactly where you left off with all your settings intact. Unlimited undo lets you explore different strategies. The timer waits for your first move on every new game, so you can plan the deal at your own pace before the clock starts.

Customize your experience with three card front themes (Classic, Modern, and Simple), adjustable card sizes, card back colors, and table background colors. Set different card themes for tablet and phone, so your iPad and iPhone can each have their own look.

Universal app for Mac, iPad, iPhone, and the web. Your data stays with you. Settings, high scores, and game progress are stored on your device and sync between your Apple devices through iCloud. No accounts, no tracking, no third-party services. Just you and a deck of cards.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.9.1 — 2026-06-10

This update adds automatic on-device backups and a large batch of new daily puzzles, plus one rare iPad fix.

Automatic on-device backup

Your settings, statistics, achievements, saved games, and daily puzzle progress are now automatically backed up to a file on your device shortly after every change. Nothing to configure and nothing to tap. This complements iCloud sync: if you play without iCloud, your data now has a durable copy on the device, and if you ever need it, the existing manual export and import in Settings keep working exactly as before.

More daily puzzles, schedule extended through May 2027

737 new daily puzzles have been added across the three difficulty tiers: 69 Easy, 516 Medium, and 152 Hard. The puzzle schedule, which determines which deal you and every other player see on each calendar day, now runs through the 6th of May 2027. Every player who opens the app on the same day continues to get identical deals, and Game Center leaderboards remain directly comparable.

Fixed: shrunken playfield after returning from background on iPad

A rare but disorienting bug: occasionally, when you returned to the app on iPad after it had been backgrounded for a while, the green playfield would render at roughly a quarter of the screen area while the table-color background filled the screen correctly. The cards were tiny and the playfield was pinned in the upper-left until you rotated the device or otherwise forced the app to relayout. This was caused by iOS briefly reporting wrong viewport dimensions during the layout-restore window after backgrounding, combined with a caching path in the renderer that prevented the playfield from growing back when iOS recovered. The renderer now keys its resize cache on the right input and recovers automatically.

### 1.8.1 — 2026-05-18

Mostly a bug-fix release. Three targeted fixes for issues that surfaced after 1.8.0 went out.

Tap-to-skip on the first deal

Tapping or clicking the playfield to skip the deal animation was silently broken on the very first deal after launching the app or after starting a new game from the home screen. Subsequent deals (restart, new game from the in-game menu, load seed, daily puzzle) worked correctly. The skip now works on every deal.

Spider stock deals trigger King-to-Ace foundation moves

In Spider, Spiderette, and Will o' the Wisp, an Ace landing on a 2-K of the same suit during a stock deal would form a complete King-to-Ace sequence that the engine silently ignored. The sequence would just sit on the tableau, and you had to make an unrelated move to nudge the engine into noticing. The full sequence now flies to the foundation as soon as the Ace lands, the same way it does for drag, drop, and double-tap moves.

FreeCell supermoves animate properly when free cells are scarce

In FreeCell and Baker's Game, clicking a target pile to move a multi-card stack would sometimes animate the whole stack as one rigid block instead of as a card-by-card supermove through the intermediate free cells and empty tableau columns. The move itself was valid, just visually wrong. The most reliable trigger was nearly-full free cells combined with more than one empty tableau column. The decomposer now agrees with the validator on what is feasible, and complex supermoves animate the way they should.

### 1.7.0 — 2026-04-20

Background Music

Soliteur now ships with a built-in music player and ten ambient tracks designed to match the calm pace of solitaire. Open the music player from the music note button in any game to play, shuffle, or pick a specific track. Music volume is independent from sound effects, so you can tune them separately.

Daily Challenge, Right in the Game Picker

The Daily Challenge is now a top-level entry in the main game picker, alongside Klondike, FreeCell, Spider, and the rest of the catalog. Three FreeCell puzzles every day (Easy, Medium, Hard), with the same deals for every player worldwide. Compete on four new Game Center leaderboards (one per tier plus a Daily Total), watch your streaks build up in the History view, and see at a glance how today's puzzles compare in difficulty thanks to a new five-dot indicator.

Also in this release

- Spiderette: a new ninth game variant. Single-deck Spider with a Klondike-style staircase deal: smaller, faster games that still play like Spider.
- Spider and Spiderette difficulty tiers: a single combined selector with five levels from 1 Suit (Easy) up through 4 Suits Standard (Hardest), including Relaxed variants for forgiving group moves.
- Flick to move cards: pick up a card and flick in the rough direction of its destination. The game finds the best valid target and animates the card there. Especially handy on iPad.
- Card themes available everywhere: three card front styles (Classic, Modern, Simple) are now available on every device, and your tablet and phone can use different themes without one overwriting the other.
- Game Center leaderboard shortcuts: tap "Leaderboard" anywhere it appears (each game card, the win screen, the Daily Challenge picker) to jump straight to the right board in Game Center.
- Daily Challenge how-to-play: a new in-app explainer covers tiers, par, scoring, and streaks.
- Timer waits for your first move: on every new game and daily puzzle the clock starts only after your first move, so you can study the deal first without time pressure. Resuming a saved game still picks up where you left off.
- Audio settings: a dedicated Audio section in Settings with a sound effects toggle and volume slider.
- Right-click to undo (macOS): right-click anywhere in a game on the Mac to undo your last move. The default WebView context menu has been retired.

Fixes and Polish

Resolved a long-standing iOS issue that occasionally produced a blank screen after extended backgrounding, fixed iPad rendering glitches when returning from background, persisted win streaks across app reloads so the Hot Streak and Unstoppable achievements no longer reset, improved Klondike's "no more moves" detection so it no longer fires when a winning path still exists, fixed Golf wins not posting to the Game Center leaderboard, and corrected mobile difficulty tier colors and Polish translations throughout the app. Plus dozens of smaller polish improvements throughout the app.

### 1.6.2 — 2026-03-27

New game variants

Three new solitaire variants join the collection, bringing the total to eight:

- **Will o' the Wisp** -- A miniature Spider using a single deck and seven tableau piles. Includes a Relaxed difficulty option that allows moving any descending group regardless of suit.
- **Australian Patience** -- A challenging combination of Klondike and Yukon where all tableau cards are dealt face-up and building is strictly by suit. Configurable stock passes (1 pass, 3 passes, or unlimited).
- **Simple Simon** -- A pure-skill Spider variant with all 52 cards dealt face-up and no stock. Includes a Relaxed mode for easier play.

Game Center leaderboards and achievements

Game Center leaderboards and achievements are now live. Compete on 12 leaderboards across all eight game types and daily puzzles, and earn 25 achievements tracking your progress from first win to monthly streaks.

Spider scoring overhaul

Spider now uses a proper scoring model with three components: completed sequence bonus (varies by suit count), movement bonus (500 minus moves made), and time bonus (varies by suit count, awarded on completion). Will o' the Wisp and Simple Simon use the same scoring model.

macOS Tahoe Game Center compatibility

Fixed the Game Center overlay on macOS 26 (Tahoe), where Apple changed the presentation to a system-level side panel. The in-app hosting sheet is now hidden on Tahoe to avoid a white screen flash while still triggering the system panel.

Skip deal animation

Tap or click anywhere during the deal animation to skip it and place all cards instantly. Works across all game modes including daily puzzles.

### 1.6.1 — 2026-03-25

Game Center leaderboards and achievements are now live. Compete on 9 leaderboards across all five game types and daily puzzles, and earn 22 achievements tracking your progress from first win to monthly streaks.
