### 4/5 — Would love sheet music training for note names

*2026-05-03, version 2.4.1*

Hi! I love the app, its a great way to memorize the note names. I have one ask for the app: can you include sheet music notation for the note trainer? I am trying to learn how to read so it would be helpful. Even for people who don't care to read, an option to add an octave marker (E3 vs E4) would be helpful, since that can help you figure out which E's are the same and which are different, for example. I think having a note marked on sheet music is the best option as it is very visual, but let me know what you think! Really like the app otherwise, let me know what you think

### 5/5 — Great app

*2026-02-26, version 2.3.2*

For my money the best fretboard/interval training app available.

### 5/5 — Brilliant app

*2026-01-14, version 2.3.0*

This app is simply a great tool to improve your guitar playing. This relies solely on your knowledge and helps to improve your fretboard awareness so you can focus on getting a good foundation. I would love to see a user area where you can upload your own exercises and tips or a few pdfs so we can get the best out of the app .

### 3/5 — could be better

*2025-12-13, version 2.2.2*

For what it costs, I was expecting more. Some things that feel like no brainers to me: showing the note on the treble clef, and showing the fretboard for scales. Something that would be nice given the technology is giving a reference note and then asking to find another note (interval ear training). Also, a way to gamify it (e.g. streaks, quests) would be nice to have a sense of reward. Overall a decent practice tool to start learning the fretboard, but given that it's paid it could be a lot more.

### 4/5 — Best Guitar Practice App!

*2025-11-19*

4 Stars, because I have one suggestion: it would be very helpful, when you have already a top niveau on the guitar, if the App could show you how many notes you have played in one session! So one could see his/her progress!

### 5/5 — Recommended

*2025-10-31, version 2.2.2*

This is a wonderful app to train the intervalic functions and for beginners learning the notes and relations on the fretboard

### 5/5 — The perfect practice tool

*2025-10-16, version 2.2.2*

This is a great tool to hone your chops and ears over changes. A great daily practice tool

### 5/5 — 求求了 搞个中文吧

求求了 搞个中文吧

### 5/5 — Best for practice

*2025-10-05*

I still use this till date to get back to my basics and the best 15 min of the day for me.

### 5/5 — The tool I was looking for to understand the fretboard

*2025-10-04, version 2.2.2*

GOT TO SAY that the fact that I know in a second where and what I’m doing on which notes feels incredible, and it’s NOT TRIVIAL AT ALL. I recall a few months ago when I was frustrated, and I didn’t know how to memorize the fretboard, let alone understand why triads appear the way they do or how to form one on the fly. The only thing that kept me going was the fact that obviously others know it, and that I’m not an idiot, but I couldn’t figure out how to train myself. SOLO totally paid out for that. Add to that the real power of solo understanding intervals, and WOW, I think this was the single most powerful and breakthrough improvement I had.

One thing I hope they add is statistics to see how fast you find whatever notes the app asks you to. THat would help visualize the improvement.

### 2/5 — No funciona como se espera

*2025-08-21, version 2.2.2*

### 5/5 — Incredible App!

*2025-07-11, version 2.2.2*

Incredible app! My knowledge and improvisational skills have soared! Thank you!

### 5/5 — Anything Tom Quayle

*2025-04-21, version 2.2.1*

I have been studying Tom Quayle for a year and three months now. Anything that comes from him is guaranteed to make you move forward with your playing. The Sólo app is a great tool for fretboard visualization and for acquiring ideas for improvisation. I like to work with the jazz standards and intricate scale sequences. It’s a great tool for me to get ideas and feel more comfortable when going through the changes of the tunes. The combination between mindful, consistent practice and the proper material is very effective. Tom’s is the proper material. You just have to practice.

### 5/5 — Fantastic!!

*2025-02-26*

Best way to learn your way around the guitar!!

### 5/5 — Good practice tool

*2025-02-25, version 2.2.1*

Great practice tool. There is a further fee on top of the costly up front fee for the course that teaches you the fretboard.

I feel they could have thrown that in with the app.

### 5/5 — Crashes all the time

*2025-02-12, version 2.2.1*

Been running into nothing but problems with this app. Crashes immediately all the time.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Hidden costs and buggy

*2026-02-24*

The app itself is okay. It helps with visualizing the fretboard and memorizing intervals. However, it has problems detecting the correct notes, even when properly calibrated and tuned. If you play faster than 100 bpm, note detection decreases significantly. This puts the app’s main purpose internalizing chord structures whilst improvising at faster tempos into question.

What frustrates me the most is that I paid for this app but still cannot use its core feature: playing the correct chords over specific chord progressions. To use my own chord progressions, an additional in-app purchase is required, which is not communicated anywhere. In my opinion, this is a huge no-go and feels like a scam.

### 1/5 — Not what I thought it would be

*2026-02-03, version 2.3.1*

I thought this was to help learn the fretboard without holding the guitar or even requiring a guitar. I thought this was to learn finger placements by having a virtual fretboard.

### 1/5 — Technical difficulties galore

*2025-03-14, version 2.2.1*

I like the app in theory but in actuality it doesnt work because it wont detect the notes. Ive done all the trouble shooting. Even when it sometimes works it only detects half the notes and it wont move along on the exercise. I really wanted to like it. Wouldve been worth $15 if it worked

### 1/5 — Very Poor Functionality

*2025-02-11, version 2.2.1*

The scale/interval/note exercises do not change upon tap (one of the selected options) Not recommended.

### 1/5 — 音認識が悪い

*2024-09-20*

ipadなんですがまるで音を認識してくれず使い物にならない

### 1/5 — Money wasted

*2024-09-06, version 2.1.0*

Totally confusing app. Can’t correctly identify a note it’s asking for half the time. After a little bit I’d start playing wrong notes on purpose and it would register them as correct. Tim is a genius on guitar but this app is rushed and I haven’t seen an update for this thing since I bought it. Save your money, wish I would’ve.

### 1/5 — Sadly It Doesnt Work

*2024-08-14, version 2.1.0*

This app is a great idea however it doesnt pick up the audio and therefore doesnt work. I have to crank my amp for it to pick up notes and even then it really has no clue half the time. It sucks all the enjoyment from practicing and I gave up on it in the first 3 days. Save your money and just pay attention to the shapes youre playing.

### 1/5 — No better than a tuner

*2024-03-22, version 2.1.0*

I paid $15 to have something identify a note and tell me if I’m playing it. All of the other functions are grayed out and don’t work. No part of the app or it’s help explains how I unlock them. What a waste of money.

### 1/5 — Useless

*2024-02-15, version 2.1.0*

Useless app! Need to buy a additional course for couple hundred dollars to understand how to use it to right way! Жалкую, що дарма витратив майже двадцять баксів!🤬

### 1/5 — Far Too Limited For $15

*2023-07-01, version 1.4.5*

I wrote a giant review and unfortunately lost it, so I am keeping this short:

This app is crude and left the product development stage too soon. Features that many would consider basic do not exist. I would expect more from an app that costs $15. I would probably value it at $1 out of generosity.

My advice: hold off on purchasing until several updates are released.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — My opinion

*2026-08-01, version 2.5.2*

Solo is a great tool if you use it consistently.

### 5/5 — Game Changer

*2026-07-27, version 2.5.2*

This app should be part of every guitarist's practice routine. Period!

It tackles so many areas that most musicians know they're missing, but often can't put into words. I'd had my eye on it for a while but kept putting off buying it, thinking that learning more fretboard shapes and theory concepts would take my playing to the next level. Those things absolutely help, but they can only take you so far.

After finally taking the plunge and spending just one evening with it, it's completely changed how I think about my practice sessions. It's already given me so many new ideas and highlighted areas I'd been overlooking.

Fair play, Tom—and thank you. I genuinely think every guitarist should have this at their disposal, especially when they're starting to learn intervals and connect the fretboard in a meaningful way. You’ve hit the nail on the head with this one.

### 5/5 — If you are serious about guitar, you need this app

*2026-07-09, version 2.5.1*

I use Solo every day. I run just 10 minutes of fretboard drills and 10 minutes of interval training over various scales. You can use it with a metronome to gauge your speed and improvement. Thank you for creating such no nonsense application for people who are serious about learning to play the guitar.

Essential for interval visualization, can’t wait for what they’re gonna bring to this app in future updates.

### 5/5 — About the app
