I was having several issues so I deleted and reinstalled the app. I then tried Songwriter HD L but have the same issues. 1. If I rotate the iPad to landscape for ease of typing, I can’t see my lyrics. 2. I type the first line and when I start the second, it shifts the text to the left so I can’t see the first part of each line because it’s off screen. 3. When I click to add a new section,...chorus, etc. nothing happens. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE HELP!!!...and soon! I’d like to give more stars. ### 2/5 — Too Bad...It was a great product *2017-07-28, version 3.3.3* This application was a great product and should be profitable for the current owners of the software. I wonder if the competition bought Simon out and then dumped it. I'm frustrated that I blindly bought the "HD" full version thinking everything would work and then after some investigation it appears it's about to be rendered incompatible with the next iOS upgrade. I can't afford to put any more writing into it now. I care less about the 10 bucks lost than about the loss of a great product that was filling a need. Come on, Simon...try again! ### 2/5 — Going Backwards! *2016-10-04, version 3.3.3* Are used to absolutely love this app… I could easily write and record lyrics and music… But most of all I can email them with the push of a button. Now, I can no longer email any of the audio. So collaboration is severely limited at this point. The app is doing less and less every time are use it! In order to use the drop-down menu when you want to record music over the lyrics you have to tip the screen from profile to landscape and then back again. It's a pain in the butt. Wondering why features are disappearing… But mostly wondering and hoping that it can be corrected. Have not received a response today. I would think twice before getting this ### 1/5 — Horrible. *2016-02-12, version 3.3.3* I bought the app. Used it and was going good. Suddenly stopped recording. Send an email to support. Response: ' I no longer own the app' soon support. Then I linked the app with Dropbox for back ups. The result: the files are no readable in drop box. So if your are looking for a good app for song writing, this one is the worst you can get. "I no longer own this app, it was sold to another developer who doesn't appear to be supporting or updating the app anymore." ### 5/5 — Excellent Program *2013-11-19, version 3.3.3* This is an excellent resource for any songwriter or performer. It's fast, stable, and easy to use. I ported over 200 songs into the program in a couple of days with very little effort and added chords to them easily. Now I can hand my iPad to someone and they can follow my charts. It will be used for all of my future writing. ### 5/5 — Songwriter HD *2013-09-03, version 3.3.3* I LOVE this product. Ease of use, and the powerful features make this product perfect for my writing! I love that as I'm writing I can use other music products and thus capture lyrics, melodies, phrases, chords, numbering, and never ever lose that next great inspiration. The product is rock solid and fast. Searching for rhymes and definitions is awesome and sending lyrics, transposing and sharing my creations is so easy. This product is essential for anyone writing songs! BUY IT NOW!!! ### 5/5 — Pretty good *2013-08-05, version 3.3.1* Honestly, it doesn't do THAT much, but it definitely does the job. I just wanted an app where I could store/manage all of my songs and this app is great at that. I can organize my songs by style, length, in progress, complete, and anything else. I recommend this app if you only want to store your songs in a manageable place where it is easy to find your way around. ### 5/5 — Beautiful App *2013-07-26, version 3.3.1* As a serious songwriter this is now my central writing app. Buy the full upgrade. The issue of getting songs from trial version over to full version is very simple. In the main gear menu choose "export songs" and then select all your songs with a check mark. Export them as the native "Songwriter" format. Send the email to yourself. After the full upgrade. just open the attachment in your email inbox and choose the full version when prompted how to open it and not only do you get your songs but also any folder structure you created. I would like a right side bar with chord choices and accompanying nashville numbers instead of that tiny chord button way up there too close to other buttons. But I love this app ### 5/5 — Easily one of the most valuable apps on my ipad *2013-05-25, version 3.2.1* I've been using this app continuously for about 4 months, due to its convenience the app is quickly becoming a collecting place for all my song ideas. When I open it I see all of my idea collected in one location. When I first started writing songs over a decade ago I had a mountain of paper and pens everywhere and struggled for a place to keep all my best ideas safe, organized and handy when inspiration struck. Now with this app I can quickly develop song ideas and has generally improved my creative flow. Thank you ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Wrecked *2022-12-09, version 4.0.1* I’ll agree with other reviews. Used to be such a great tool. I got a new iPad Pro and lost about 100 songs. Fortunately I write my ideas to paper first and tweak them in the app so years of hard work didn’t go completely down the toilet but I’m leery of even using the app anymore. ### 1/5 — Nothing to see here *2018-07-17, version 4.0.1* As with previous reviews. Very glitchy that makes it labor intensive to use. Does it work? Technically. But it sputters along. Surely there is a better option. ### 1/5 — Problems *2018-05-15, version 4.0.1* This was one of my favorite apps for like years, but glitchy ness right now makes it essentially impossible to edit songs and I am looking at needing to transfer my work into a different app. Would really appreciate an update correcting the glitches in edit mode. ### 1/5 — Do not buy *2018-03-23, version 4.0.1* The app has been updated to “work” with iOS 11. Yes, technically, it runs. That’s about it. The text input is incredibly glitchy, the chord insertion feature doesn’t work, and adding sections to songs does nothing. It also looks like a lot of the import/export/backup features no longer exist. Dropbox sync is still there, but it’s using the old Dropbox API that is going to be disabled soon. Basically, it’s dead. Original review: I've toured the App Store in search of a songwriting tool that would let me *write*. This does that exactly. The ability to logically structure and quickly reorganize a song is hugely useful, and the chord chooser lets me get a progression from my head to the page quickly. And because the app handles chord rendering, I don't have to waste time trying to space things out properly. ### 1/5 — Was great...Now what! *2018-02-16, version 4.0.1* This WAS a great tool, I guess the new owners don’t know anything about music; just trying to make a buck off us. This app no longer works like it use to, even after their last update to IOS 11. The text input is very disorienting (can not see while you are typing), and chords don’t line up with lyrics. Haven’t tried exporting to see if that function has been fixed yet, as I can’t even write a song on this anymore. Will there be an update? ### 1/5 — Great, BUT... *2017-07-12, version 3.3.3* This was simply THE all-around coolest songwriting/chord placement, great-to-have-on-a-gig app... And then it was bought by App Holdings and all support and updates ceased. It's been years since the latest update... Just yesterday, as I fired up my new iPad, transferred my data and opened the app, I received a warning that without an update, this app is soon going to be unusable. (I'm guessing the coming iOS 11 will render it useless..?) Back up your songs and find another way to go... ### 1/5 — WT??????? Complete waste of money now. 0.0 Support. Emails go to former owner of App who sold it to a company that could careless. They recently just did something to the app where adding song sections no like Chorus, Verse, etc., and inserting Chords is just jibberish and makes writing music frustrating which is the last thing you want when being creative. AVOID! I hope no one buys this ever again until someone addresses these ignored issues. ### 1/5 — Record and play no longer work. App no longer supported *2016-02-20, version 3.3.3* I was having the above problem so I wrote the developer for a solution. In December 2015, I got an email from Simon Tocknell, the developer of this app, which stated:"I no longer own this app, it was sold to another developer who doesn't appear to be supporting or updating the app anymore." As you can see from the app history, it appears that there hasn't been an update now since 2013. I paid for this app, it has all my lyrics on recordings on it, and now has loss functions. I'm using it not only to write but also to store cover lyrics to view on stage during performance. The page scrolling function is a huge plus. I don't think it was even mentioned in the description. Very easy to use so far. I think I'll have a lot of fun with this particular app. In the past I've used three different applications to get songwriting ideas down. This one app does it all. Thank you ### 5/5 — What I've been looking for! *2013-12-17, version 3.3.3* As more of a songwriter than a performer, this is so much better than OnSong. Less fiddly, with easy options for reordering sections, recording audio separate for each section, easier chord entry than OnSong, and the edit section is so much friendlier to write in.
