Plus some bars at the end of verses or choruses missing. You also CANNOT send your song via email which is a major game breaker if you want your song sent to you for collab and backup purposes. Was the best app now to be forgotten I guess.. An iPhone X update would be nice as well, although farfetched at this point. 😐 ### 4/5 — Please Update *2018-04-02, version 4.0.1* I’m glad that the app was updated so I can use it on iOS 11, but now there’s more bugs than I’ve ever noticed. After picking a folder and closing it, the screen turns blank and you must swipe to get your folders back, and sometimes when I am typing, the line I am typing will disappear. I can still type, and it still works, but it just doesn’t show the line until I move to the next one. ### 1/5 — ERASED ALL MY SONGS. DOESN’T SYNC TO CLOUD *2018-01-03, version 4.0.1* This app has great functionality, but I updated to a new phone and ALL my songs and ideas are gone. You’re better off using the Notes app or Google Docs or something. I’m absolutely devastated right now. ### 1/5 — Any chance an update is coming *2017-11-21, version 4.0.1* Really would be nice to get the fix for Dropbox update. The app just stopped working, can’t even get my content off of it, at least not since last backup. Don’t want to have to rekey everything.... ### 1/5 — New update is super faulty *2017-10-18, version 4.0.1* Not only does the app look significantly cheaper, but it won't even allow me to see what I'm writing as I'm writing it down. I like to use this app a lot, but if it won't even perform the basics I don't see a point. ### 4/5 — Excellent, and now up to date. *2017-10-08, version 4.0.1* This has been one of my essential apps for years now. In fact, I intended not to update my iPhone just to make sure I didn't lose access to the app. That's no longer a concern. I think this is one of the best songwriting apps available, even compared to newer or more up to date apps. I give it four stars, instead of 5, because the updated app is a bit buggy. I'm having an issue where lyrics disappear when I go to edit them (but reappear when I close the "edit mode" view.) Some of the UI isn't as clean and smooth as it could be. That said, I'm extremely happy that it's gotten an update. I really hope that this might be the first of more new updates, and the app might become even better than before. I'll definitely re-review with five stars if that turns out to be the case. Things that could improve the app: Branching folders (i.e, a folder within a folder) More export options More customizable UI Fixing of bugs (when going from landscape mode to portrait mode, song file stays in landscape; aforementioned disappearing text issue; etc.) ### 1/5 — Needs Immediate Updating *2017-10-01, version 4.0.1* The app needs updating and will no longer work on the new iOS. What gives? I can’t access my lyrics and notes. I’m extremely dissatisfied that they haven’t updated in nearly 4 years. I have so many songs stored on this app that I don’t want to go through the trouble of changing apps, but after years without fixes, I think it’s time to move on :’( ### 1/5 — Used To Be The Best Songwriting App *2021-08-17, version 4.0.1* This used to be an amazing app. The best! But after getting taken over by a holding company, this app hasn’t seen an update in 3 years. The Dropbox linking has been broken for some time which didn’t affect me until my iPhone X quit. Now I’m no longer able to access my songs that were stored in Dropbox. If the developer would fix the broken Dropbox link it would be fine. This app received a modest update to work with iOS 11. I was ecstatic to see this because the app had not been updated in 4 years and was not working with iOS 11. I have a lot of content in this app and wasn't sure how I was going to get to my material. It's a great app but therein lies my problem. If they decide not to update it anymore then I'm screwed and all my years of songwriting are gone. But this goes for any app. I've toyed with the idea of moving all my material to an app such as OneNote that's not going away but it's not specific to songwriting and not as great to use. Plus there is no easy way to export your material from one app to another. I did that years ago when iWork for iCloud came out and lost a ton of material because iCloud was buggy. So this is a great app for songwriting and I've used it for many years. I said all this to say this: just make sure you have a backup plan. ### 1/5 — It’s Messy *2021-05-25, version 4.0.1* The Setting the letters above are covering words below that line all the way down the page. My folders & song Titles are blending into the line below. It’s in need of a basic fix. I’m using an iPad 12.9” screen & iPhone Pro & both have this same issue. The font for Settings is too big to fit correctly in the app & same goes for I suppose the Folders & sing titles. This should be quite fixable for the developers. Why if I’m paying could I not move my songs from the initial trial/free version over to the paid version. I didn’t want to d.l. an additional app (paid). I just wanted to pay for more than the 2-3 folders in the free version but when I went to purchase it had me download the app a 2nd time. No way to purchase from within the app. Why? Please fix. This is messy! I’ll revise my review. App has great potential but no readable Settings/Instructions etc. Why? ### 1/5 — Pay for less? *2020-05-14, version 4.0.1* Had original Songwriter HD, which was really pretty cool. But you could only have a few songs on at a time. So I paid for this version. It’s horrible. It truncates how much can be entered, so short you can’t even write a pop song, the screen is totally bizarre, only using part of the tablet screen, and the format is big blocky print. The original was so much better. Why couldn’t my purchase have gotten me the ability to have more songs in process with the original purchase? Total garbage ### 1/5 — Started out great but ended up real bad! *2018-12-25, version 4.0.1* Just like the songs you write. They start out good and end up in the round file. I had a bunch of good stuff in Songwriter and lost everything. I couldn’t transfer the songs out of SW to mail or text like I was able to do in the beginning. After trying so many things, I finally tried rebooting the app and lost everything. Like one of the other reviews said “have a back up plan”. I’m going to look for another app. I don’t trust this one anymore. So sad. ### 1/5 — Ruined by update. *2018-09-27, version 4.0.1* Until the text Input problem is fixed I now won’t be using this as it kills my workflow. Every time you start writing and start a new line the text is hidden. When you press return it comes back however you then have to click delete to get the words back underneath the first line you wrote. This was my go to app but with this silly problem it’s now getting deleted. Shame. ### 1/5 — DO NOT PURCHASE UNTIL NEXT UPDATE! *2018-02-24, version 4.0.1* This app is currently useless to everyone. You are completely unable to edit more than one line per section in a given song. It’s so simple and basic but does it well. All other apps in that genre I’ve come across are full of fancy features but don’t get the basics right. It’s in need of an update for adding chords and exporting songs as PDF which isn’t working with the latest OS. I love the simplicity of adding song parts and recording them separately right below the lyrics. The dropbox backup is also awesome.
