I find that strong Wi-Fi signals provide the best experience with Songbox. Given that, Songbox is a nice app. I like that I don't have to download the music files to play them. I wish Songbox would allow browsing by album title or genre. ### 3/5 — Good app *2011-12-01, version 1.2.3* Wish it would find tags automatically after syncing with drop box. ( you have to play the songs at least once before they find tags) Great potential here. I'm excited to see what features will come up in future versions. Release early and release often and unfinished products are okay. So onto the missing features. - repeat options & overall better control for playback. - Ability to separate audiobooks and music - I get a ton of unrecognized music that must be played before the meta data is seen - when I plug in aux cord the music stops (native iPod keeps playing) this is super annoying when you have a scan going - when meta data gets recognized after a song has been put into a playlist all sort of bugs around mismatched meta data depending on which tab your in. - show the time on the music all those iPod controls need improving. - Not sure if this is possible but if we could cache the music data like you find in pay streaming radio services i.e. Rdo, mog, and others that would make this a serious contender as a replacement for the native iPod/sync setup. Thanks for the app. I just got my iPhone replaced and am fruit to see if I can get by without syncing music through iTunes and Doing the dropbox route. ### 4/5 — I think *2011-05-27, version 1.1* this app is a great! And a nice alternative to iPod+iTunes. But: - it crashes every time I go to settings and then back to "songs" (iPhone 4 iOS 4.3.3); - no support for Cyrillic characters; - please let us to choose the exact folder(s) with music. MeCanto is great but the interface is cumbersome and you need a subscription after a while. Songbox is simple, efficient, free and FAST right out the box. Does not display cover art. Does not bookmark. Unstable performance. Organizes songs alphabetically, which means in most cases you will have a list of album selection numbers (i.e., "01 – 02 – 03," etc.) ### 1/5 — TERRIBLE APP, NO VALUE *2013-02-06, version 1.3* I bought this app assuming an app specifically designed to play music from would have basic audio player capabilities, I was wrong. This does not play music continuously, I have to hit play on the next track when one song end. Also, it doesn't not work with the headphone remote. I tried to pause the playback with the remote while in the app instead of just pausing the songbox player, it began playing the built in music app. The only thing I can tell this app does well is show me the music files i have in dropbox while completely disorganizing any folder structure. ### 2/5 — Not keen on 10,000 song limit *2013-03-07, version 1.3* Dropbox scanning was incredibly fast ... If want to add all songs in a Dropbox folder, I have to do two clicks for each song, which is impossible given the number of songs in the folder. If they include this feature, the app will be rated 5 stars for sure. ### 3/5 — Please Add Auto Scanning of ID3 Tags *2011-12-06, version 1.2.3* Works very well except that id3 tags aren't read until a given song is played. This makes it extremely hard to find the song you want. Please add option to scan all music for id3 tags prior to playing any songs. No background refresh *2022-11-03, version 2.87* I can't remember the exact flow of setting this up but I swear it just scans entire drive of drop box. I canceled right away because I have 3tb of files in there. Here's what's wrong with this app. It doesn't have background app refresh to download so you can't shut your screen off and it needs to be in focus. I accidentally downloaded 72 gigabytes of my favorite artists folder by folder and kept my phone on overnight. I'm not going to redo all my folders again with auto download off. You can't even go to another app while it's downloading the file or meta data. Once you have the songs downloaded the app is great and beats other dropbox music player apps I tried. **Developer response:** Thank you for a 5 star review! ### 5/5 — Great player for music on your Dropbox account *2021-09-02, version 2.2* What great application to play the music files you have in your Dropbox. Like the other reviewer said: it’s important that you can scan just a specific folder (with sub folders) otherwise it would be to long to scan your whole Dropbox account. You can select by artist, album, songs and you can create your own playlist. 👏👏👏 **Developer response:** Thank you for your 5 star review! ### 5/5 — FINALLY!!! *2011-09-01, version 1.2.3* 5 stars easy. Sure the interface could use some polish and it doesn't scan the mp3 tags until you play the song. But between Dropbox music streaming and the Mixtape it already earned 5 stars. The rest is just polish. Wifi works better than 3G, but there us just a 3-4 second pause between tracks on 3G. That's not the apps fault. If you don't have Dropbox, get it. Then get this app. No more fiddling, screaming, or praying to iTunes. The official Dropbox app can play a single song, but not an album or playlist. ### 5/5 — True dropbox streaming!! *2011-07-06, version 1.2.2* Not a song cacher, it truly streams songs via Dropbox, making this a must have app for Dropbox users. The update fixed the mixtape crashing bug for me, mixtape functionality is amazing... Still a little stutter when the song begins streaming, but not bad enough to warrant a star loss.
