I left a song in the studio, and came back 2 hours later to return to editing it, and the song was in an entirely different key and the melody was off. So I essentially lost out on the good song that I got generated for me. ### 3/5 — End of subscription *2025-11-23, version 3.1.23* The app had promise and still does. There’s alot to enjoy about it. The minute it is a subscription though, it is a service and not a purchased product i get to keep, and at 89.00 per year its almost double the price of logic pro mobile, its only 8 bucks away from Suno pro…or many other more powerful platforms. The sounds are mediocre and that engine can be enhanced quite alot. The value per dollar is low if you figure in the editing you have to do to make midi and audio renders line up. The interface is quite confusing how its arranged as the modes are really unnecessary and just seperate themselves from A similar chore. My sub is up and when deciding to re-up i just couldnt be 180.00 deep into this app, i really liked alot about this app but blaring issues forced me out. Subscriptions have made people selling things just pick a price and not consider the competition and the bang for buck. So if your service is not current and feature rich it will be left behind. This app might be worth a one time 89 bucks! But ut certainly isnt worth 89 every year. It doesnt update enough, it stays broken in render, and there is no service to the service. I gave 3 stars for the good it does. I wish your company success and better business models creation. ### 4/5 — Good, but has problems *2025-02-24, version 3.1.18* Just got the app today, and it was fun to use, but then hours later it started glitching to the point where I couldn’t open the options when i clicked them. Frankly, your going to price yourself right out of business. Logic for iPad is cheaper. Cubasis 3 is a one time purchase and still cheaper than what you’re asking. Ai generative apps are all the rage now and even they are less expensive than this. This app really isn’t unique. ### 4/5 — Limited capabilities, but still quite good. *2024-10-30* I really like this app. It allows you to explore so many possibilities. The interface is pretty simple to use. I used this app in its earlier stages, and I am impressed by the changes they have made to make it better. The algorithms used to create the melodies are very interesting and original. I would like to see a few more advancements in the future, as the app still appears to be in its beta stages. But aside from that, I am pleased with it for the moment. Even though you can’t create an entire song with it, it is still a very useful tool. It gives me musical inspiration. What I would really like, though, is for them to change the pricing. I would like to be able to purchase the app outright with a lifetime license, rather then just "rent” it on a weekly, monthly or yearly basis. That makes it too expensive for songwriters like me who are on a budget. **Developer response:** Thank you for the elaborate review! We work hard to justify the subscription. It says with premium you can export midi and audio. But I can’t even do one of those for free!? I’m confused. And on top of that they ignore any email I’ve sent about it. First of all, you have to pay to export any sound files of what you put together, or permanently save your tracks, even though you can extensively edit them for free. And that’s only a problem once you spend HOURS trying to get something that sounds good to come out of the AI. On top of all of that - there’s limited sound selection, the app has a VERY hard time lining everything up satisfyingly and properly, and if you DO pay to export your files, it takes FOREVER. At this point, I would say just shell out for FL Studio and some drum kits if you’re looking to make beats. I have used this app for 3 months and I like the older version A LOT more than this new pathetic version. Please bring back the old version in the next update. ### 1/5 — HOW DO I GET IN TOUCH WITH CUSTOMER SERVICE *2023-12-26, version 2.0.31* I’m having issues with the app and need to get a refund. ### 1/5 — New updates are bad *2023-12-14* I’m leaving this here until it’s fixed… they just added a new ‘feature’ that asks you to confirm with a pop up every time you try regenerate the arrangement. Extremely annoying and unwanted. Hinders workflow. Not sure who would ask for such a feature, but if you just made the operation REVERSIBLE this wouldn’t be needed. This is easily the worst feature ever added. How about fixing the bugs that have plaguing this app for years, or adding features that would actually make this app better, like being able to route MIDI out of the app in real time or making a VST companion app? All the recent updates are disappointing and $8.99/month for this subscription is becoming more and more unjustifiable. I’ve been subscribed 2+ years and have really loved the app, but until recently, this app has lacked updates and a lot of the genres have become repetitive, or just combinations of other genres that already exist in the app. I’ve sent you guys feedback but I guess you don’t read it so maybe a 1-star review will change that. It would be really nice if they finally fixed the bug that happens on export where the save window pops up again immediately after you save it, forcing you to close it every time before you can continue. It’s been going on for over a year with no fix. Happens on my iPad and my new iPhone and old one. **Developer response:** Hi, First of all – thank you so much for the elaborate feedback. Our team has reviewed it and here are our thoughts on it. Annoying pop up when sharing the files: This is now fixed and it will be included in the next update. Confirmation pop up when regenerating arrangement: We implemented undo and it will be included in the next update. Before we implemented the confirmation pop up, we tried implementing a general undo feature, but it turned out to be tedious to be added after building the whole app without it. After your feedback we reconsidered this feature and decided to implement an undo button that is specific to the arrangements regenerating. This is understandably nicer since sometimes quick iteration is what makes sense especially with loop variations option. About the genres – this is something we have been discussing recently. On one hand, we see that new trending music exhibits combination of genres and new subgenres seem to emerge where such results could be reached by mixing existing genres but not quite. While we want to focus on kind of music that gets the most attention listening-wise, we also have ambition towards introducing styles that push the trends forward out-of-the-box thinking and fresh new directions. Luckily we have now in the making some interesting genre additions that are definitely unique and are not about creatively mixing existing genres. We'll look into the midi capabilities and further closing the gap between Songen and the DAW of choice. ## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated) ### 5/5 — Great Tool for Fast Original DAW Templates All Genres *2026-08-24* I’ve loved the Songen for iOS version and recently discovered the MacOS version. Doesn’t have quite the details of the iOS version (yet?), but I’m completely satisfied by what it does have. Easily generates endlessly varied templates of dozens of genres like Ambient, Chillwave, Techno, which you can then easily tweak to personalize. I drop template into Ableton, then typically use Ableton, Splice, or Arturia plug-ins to find the exact sound I want. Then arrange it in Ableton as complexly or simply want it. So I generated a melody and downloaded the midi file. And now it sounds like a electric guitar on BandLab . The app crashes a lot - almost unusably so if you are trying to arrange loops. Algorithmicaly I’d like to see a bit more AI driven generation of styles and song structure - it still seems too tight of a formula (hard to explain). Do you feel stuck? Songen will bring the artist out of you. Need a point in the right direction for a specific part? You can now generate singular progressions. Gems give you the ability to discover new fusions of genres and styles; one of the most unique features yet. The community around Songen is one of the most rewarding and supportive music communities I’ve come across. Can’t recommend this app highly enough, I’ve been using it for years.
