## What is Soniclyze?

Soniclyze turns your iPhone and iPad into a professional sound measurement toolkit — and the core is free.

Measure SPL, analyze frequency response in real time, inspect audio files, detect feedback, and export clean reports. No external audio interface required. Algorithms are implemented with reference to IEC, ISO, ASTM, and ITU-R standards.

**For noise & environmental monitoring**

Long-duration sound level measurement with A/C/Z weighting and Fast/Slow/Impulse time constants. Full statistics: Leq, Lmax, Lmin, Lpeak, L10, L50, L90, and SEL. Adaptive noise-event detection logs each event's level, duration, and rise/fall rate. NIOSH/OSHA noise-exposure dose for occupational settings, and automatic zone-limit assessment per GB 3096-2008. If a call or Siri interrupts a measurement, Soniclyze pauses and marks the interrupted interval automatically, then lets you continue.

**For live sound engineers**

High-resolution real-time spectrum analysis (standard ~11.7 Hz; EPPO low-frequency mode down to ~0.73 Hz, FFT up to 65536). Octave-band resolution from 1/1 to 1/24. Six window functions including Flat-Top for pure-tone amplitude work. Real-time feedback detection. Microphone sensitivity correction (via known mV/Pa spec, optional 94 dB reference calibrator). Five built-in industry reference room-correction target curves spanning cinema, broadcast, and home-theater traditions, plus A/B/C/D snapshot comparison for before/after tuning.

**For broadcast, podcast & mastering**

Loudness and true-peak analysis (Integrated / Short-term / Momentary LUFS, LRA, 4x oversampled true peak), with compliance checks against 11 industry loudness targets spanning broadcast (EBU R128, ATSC A/85), streaming, podcast, cinema, and CD mastering. Anomaly detection for DC offset, clipping, spectral notches, transcoding artifacts, and band limiting. Multi-band phase/polarity inversion analysis (8-band + full-band) and mono compatibility. Play and analyze at once: waveform, spectrum, and waterfall views stay in sync as you audition.

**Toolbox**

Signal generator, parametric EQ designer, FIR filter designer, acoustic calculators, and frequency-response export.

**Free & Pro**

Free includes real-time analysis (RTA), sound level metering (SPL), and audio file analysis. Pro unlocks unlimited-duration measurement, advanced modules, and PDF/CSV/JSON report export. Pro includes a 7-day free trial.

Supports 17 languages. Reports export independently of the app's display language.

Measurement accuracy depends on your device's microphone and calibration; for legal metrology, use equipment certified to the relevant national standard.

### 5/5 — Solid acoustic tool – surprisingly close to hardware

*2026-05-22*

Picked this up to do some quick room analysis before treating my home studio. The frequency sweep and RT60 readings were surprisingly close to what I got from my UMIK-1 + REW setup – within about 1-2 dB on most bands, which is more than good enough for a phone app.
The environmental noise breakdown is nice too, didn't expect it to separate sources that well. One gripe: the export options are a bit limited – I wanted to pull raw data into a spreadsheet and had to do some workarounds. But for the price, really hard to complain.

**Developer response:** Thanks for the detailed write-up — a UMIK-1 + REW cross-check is about the most useful validation we could ask for, so it's great to hear the RT60 and sweep numbers landed within 1–2 dB on most bands.
On export: fair point, the current options are too limited. Fuller raw-data export — per-band time series and the full RT60 table — is something we're working on for an upcoming update, so spreadsheet workflows should get a lot smoother. If there are specific fields you'd most want exposed, drop them in a reply here and we'll factor it in.
Thanks for taking the time.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 2.1 — 2026-08-19

Soniclyze 2.1 fixes several playback issues and further refines translations across all supported languages.
• Fixed a silent playback issue that could occur when returning to the file analysis playback screen
• Fixed the signal generator continuing to play after leaving its screen, and playback being silently suppressed by background listening in certain scenarios
• Translation refinements across all 17 languages
• Other stability improvements

### 2.0 — 2026-08-08

Soniclyze 2.0 brings the first macOS release, along with a month of feature work and fixes.
• Now available on macOS: a native desktop experience supporting microphones, multi-channel audio interfaces, and other professional recording devices.
• Input and output devices and channels are now selectable and shared across SPL, RTA, sound insulation, calibration, and play-and-record. Fixes issues where the channel was silently pinned, where switching devices required an app restart, and where recording continued with invalid data after a device disconnected.
• Several measurement algorithm corrections: the octave filter bank now uses a true band-pass topology; corrections to the sound-insulation rating (Rw/STC) reference data, the speech-intelligibility (STI) weighting calculation, RT60 signal deconvolution and noise-tail truncation, spectral peak interpolation for total harmonic distortion, and the SPL Lmax figure, which now uses A-weighted LAFmax.
• PDF report system upgrade: restructured SPL report sections, an automatic table of contents in every report, a report integrity hash and QR code on the final page, cumulative spectral decay (CSD) waterfall plots in reports, and extensive typography and terminology refinements across all 17 languages.
• New report verification tool: scan a report's QR code from the Toolbox to verify the report's integrity (free).
• Redesigned Settings: regrouped entries and a unified look across secondary pages, with the calibration, about, and subscription pages substantially reworked.
• Uncalibrated status is now stated explicitly on measurement screens; the subscription page shows price and renewal terms up front.
• New app icon and refreshed in-app branding.
• Extensive stability fixes: several crashes, a freeze after measurement, a duplicate share sheet, a deadlock when re-running a measurement, and the signal generator being interrupted by system sounds.
• Accessibility and localization refinements.

### 1.89 — 2026-07-02

This update focuses on professional PDF reports.
• Unified section headers and numbering across every report type for a cleaner, more consistent layout.
• Redesigned table of contents with precise visual alignment.
• Report-integrity hash and QR code on SPL and file-analysis reports, so results are verifiable and traceable.
• Many accuracy and wording refinements across SPL, RT60, RTA, and file-analysis reports: clearer event/transient figures, stronger uncalibrated-state disclaimers, and consistent labels.
• New app icon and refreshed in-app branding.
• SPL export fixes: resolved a duplicate share sheet and corrected sheet timing.
• Localization and stability refinements.

### 1.88 — 2026-06-29

Redesigned PDF reports: a unified new cover, automatic table of contents, and section numbering, plus pagination fixes across measurement report types. Smoother, more stable switching between measurement modules — the audio engine is optimized, resolving several switching freezes and crashes. SPL stability: fixed an occasional crash when measuring again after exporting a report, recovery after phone-call interruptions, and an unresponsive stop button. Various localization refinements and stability fixes.

### 1.87 — 2026-06-15

Electroacoustic improvements: more accurate stepped-sine duration estimates. Directivity polar plot: angle labels now rotate with data; added graphical over-range markers. Real-time IMD: corrected SNR calculation, smoother curve consistency, and export timeline calibration for sample rate. Improved real-time IMD measurement performance and stability. Various localization and stability fixes.
