I want to suggest two new modes: 1. Tonic recognition: The app plays a snipped of a song and then the user needs to sing back the tonic via mic. 2. Melody mode with musical context: The app plays a melody accompanied by other instruments. I know it’s not for macOS but that will be helpful if you fix this. Thanks! ### 5/5 — Beautiful and useful app *2026-01-24* I’ve tried a few other ear training apps (like Functional Ear Training), but I always ended up quitting because the sounds were so harsh and I’d get a headache after ten minutes. Sonofield is totally different. The synth and drone sounds are actually really relaxing and "vibey," so I can practice for a long time without feeling drained. What I love most is that it randomizes the keys right from the start. In other apps, I felt like I was just memorizing the sounds for one specific key, but here I’m actually learning to hear the notes properly. It was a bit tough at first, but once I found the tutorial videos, it all clicked. If you’re like me and just want a beautiful, calm way to get better at music, I highly recommend this. It’s easily the best-designed app I’ve found for this. I already got the pro version after a few days. It’s really worth it :) **Developer response:** That's great to hear! Much appreciated. ### 5/5 — The best Tonal Trainer on iOS *2026-01-23* I have tried every single app there currently is in the App Store to train my tonal hearing (I’m saying tonal because it’s not an EQ trainer). This is the, hands down, best one out there. 1. The UX is super intuitive. 2. The UI is gorgeous. 3. The default training sound (a synth) is extremely pleasant. 4. It has multiple different training styles — guess the degree, guess the melody, sing the degree and guess the degree without having to look at the phone — with multiple difficulty degrees. Everything just works. 5. You can learn SO MUCH with just the free version. And if you decide to get the full version it’s a one-time payment of 20 bucks. Will just make you feel bad about yourself. Whoever makes this app is too rigid in believing that every degree is a “feeling”. As a user you should have options such as less octaves and work your way up. I asked for a refund after 3 days and they won’t give me money back. But there’s a major flaw: it is impossible to set the training to just a single octave. You are forced to work across a minimum of 3 octaves right off the bat. I understand maybe that’s part of the maker’s philosophy, but… It’s a huge design flaw. It’s just not beginner friendly. For someone like me, even learning to identify intervals within a single octave and getting them right would feel like a major win. Instead, this app feels like it’s asking me to consistently sink balls from half court when I can’t even dribble. Otherwise very slick execution and cool concept. But I can’t get much use out of it. If they ever update this feature, I’ll come back to it. ### 3/5 — Great app, one bug *2025-12-04, version 1.7.8* Having issues with Bluetooth, either phone audio output gets switched over with Bluetooth connected or when switching modes phone audio will switch over. Using AirPod pro and other headphones. It helped me « FEEL » the music, intervals, etc., rather than having a reference song (which takes more time to identify the note).
