### 3/5 — Its fun but....

*2016-11-23*

This could be a pretty fun game and there is some innovation for the ccg norm, BUT...beware....these guys are super greedy, you will see for yourself. The monetization is crazy expensive.....i laughed when I looked at the packages....seriously devs....get real. Also, i haven't seen a stamina system this horrible EVER...after the FIRST battle my heroes are already weakened and they want me to use the real money currency to "heal" them....its absolutely ridiculous. Devs....make some reasonable changes to monetization and the recharge/heal heroes system and I bet you would actually make some money....the current way things are people are going to just laugh and not play your game.

### 4/5 — Challenging

*2015-07-31, version 1.04*

The delay is what makes this game challenging. Also managing gold for opening skills is what will definitely frustrate people.

Overall, i see lots of potential here.

P.s.
I would like it if the ads didn't pop out every time you rested. There are f2p games that don't have ads.

### 5/5 — Epic game with small quirks/bugs

*2015-07-31*

Got this game a few days ago and just finished it. Some of the complaints in the other reviews are valid, such as the bs starting health reduction after every fight, the annoying ads that pop up sometimes between screens, and the weak storyline. Other complaints, however, are simply unfounded: this game is not at all "p2w" - I never bought any IAP's, and, quite frankly, I did not at any point feel compelled to make purchases to progress. The game is also not "too difficult" or "unfair", although it might seem that way sometimes (that golden sphinx fight, oh my god...). Every seemingly insurmountable encounter has at least one winning strategy, and finally finding that strategy after much planning and experimenting is one of the most rewarding experiences this game offers. On top of that, this game features great artwork, an innovative real time card battle system, great card variety, and an in-depth, surprisingly balanced roster of card effects (armor, healing-over-time, stun, etc.). These features far outweigh the bugs and other negative aspects of the game, at least in my mind.

I'm sitting here after an intense boss fight in the void, and not only did the game crash during the final cutscene, but I am now unable to manage the equipment of my tavern-hired heroes. You know what, though? I ain't even mad. That's how good this game is.

Tip #1: Don't bloat your character decks with useless cards. In many (if not most) cases, one card per deck is enough.

Tip #2: Buy Aegolius with your starting gems. Just trust me.

Tip #3: Yes, you can revive your characters with gems, but doing so will rarely lead to victory. Just save your gems, retreat gracefully, and head back to the drawing board.

Tip #4: Pay attention to new enemy card effects and cast times. This can really help you plan your strategy if you don't beat the level the first time.

Tip #5: Coins are scarce, so only research the cards you need, such as one that gives you a volley stun.

### 3/5 — IAP drags a good game down

*2015-07-02, version 1.04*

A very interesting, innovative and engaging combat system... Made tedious by timers and an in game economy that expects you to buy the IAP gold and gems.

### 3/5 — Ok

*2015-06-20, version 1.04*

Better games out there.

### 4/5 — Fun so far...

*2015-06-11*

Cool game with interesting story and characters... Great for those who like card based battle games... Seems like it will get expensive pretty fast though... I hope it's at least somewhat playable without buying gems, because I don't plan on spending on more than a couple of games at a time, and those spots are already taken....

### 5/5 — Awesome!!!

*2015-06-11, version 1.04*

### 5/5 — Great bite-sized fun, great art!

*2015-05-30, version 1.04*

A really fun, light-hearted game--Steve Prescott's art makes it shine!

### 5/5 — Very Fun!

*2015-05-29, version 1.04*

Love the combat system! It's a nice change.

### 4/5 — Gorgeous, Fun,

*2015-05-26*

This card battle game is fun, it has gorgeous artwork by a well known fantasy game Illustrator (read his review), and there's a good strategy component like all these games have. I've downloaded and played too many of these types of games, and this succeeds on levels, where others fail, not the least of which is the vertical format that lets you actually see the card designs, game icons, map etc. The battle system works well, the storyline is ok and good humored, and it's kid friendly, if that's a concern. It also doesn't take itself too seriously. Others have complained about the ads you see after a battle. This is not a problem for me as I hit the "X" and they disappear. Others perhaps haven't noticed the "X". 😉. Having said all that, I agreed with one online review that I read that called the game "Free-to-try", not F2P. I've played quite a bit, did some grinding, and made it to Direwood, Royal Blood sequence where I hit the wall....hard. You have to have gems to recruit better Heroes, and you've got to buy them ($$$) to get them. You can grind until the cows come home, but that's not going to work, as there is a very low gem payout. In-game gold gets you some things, but not Heroes apparently. I'd much rather pay $10 for the game and play forever, and buy reasonably priced updates than get chained to F2P (like a lot of players). Game studios need to make money, that's cool - but playing a mobile game is now like playing golf. Want to play? Pay up....every time. Mobile games should be like board games. Buy it, then play it until the end of your days. Also, I hate being chained to some game server. That means you have to be on the internet, preferably wifi.

### 3/5 — Sir

*2015-05-25, version 1.04*

Gorgeous game with room to grow on the mechanics side. I stand by the artist and design team so we support it as it becomes the Tiamat of app games, thereby assuring me an elevated place in the burnt out she'll that was once my village

### 4/5 — Fun Game!

*2015-05-24, version 1.04*

The deck construction is simple but challenging to master, and I'm enjoying my experience so far.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Constant ads

*2024-06-17, version 1.05*

Got ads after every combat, including in the tutorial. Ad time and gameplay time were nearly the same, post tutorial.

### 1/5 — Sketchy

*2022-11-29, version 1.05*

I played this game for about 20 seconds before an ad came up that had a chubby lady with her breasts hanging out. That’s all i need to know about the game

### 1/5 — Game prompts for review too early

*2015-05-27, version 1.04*

Most reviews will be poorly informed due to this.

### 1/5 — Far too difficult

*2015-05-17*

It's a fun game but the only way you would be able to beat some of the bosses would be to revive some of your characters....the loot after you win battles is also barely anything, each battle is nerve wrecking because you have to make sure you do everything perfectly....needs a level up system or perhaps daily reward would also be nice

### 1/5 — Ruined

*2015-05-13, version 1.04*

All I all this game sports a innovative new idea, great graphics and captivating gameplay. However, this game, like many of its kind, is ruined by frequent and costly pay walls. The measly gold received from battles makes for hours of grinding for even the most basic cards. Also the game feels unbalanced after a few hours of playing with enemies being able to one shot you and little you can do about it. A levelling system would solve this nicely. As good as this game is, the long grind with little reward will inevitably see players hit the delete button unless willing to pay out with real money. Free to try, not free to play.

### 2/5 — Too many ads

*2021-01-14*

I downloaded but in the first 15 minutes of playing I spent more time watching ads than I did playing the game. I’m deleting. At least give players a chance to know whether or not they enjoy the game before bombarding them with ads.

### 2/5 — Doesn’t auto-size

*2020-05-16, version 1.05*

Doesn’t auto-size to the iPhone 10. Can’t read all the text or hit the accept button.

### 2/5 — Boring

*2017-03-24, version 1.04*

Not enough content. Game gets grindy very early. Boring. I like the art style and mechanics though. Has potential

### 2/5 — Buggy

*2015-06-13, version 1.04*

The hero health shown in the equipment screen doesn't match the hero health when you enter battle. Nothing worse than trying to manage your team and then dying when you enter battle because of incorrect information

### 2/5 — Glitchy

*2015-06-09*

I was able to finish all available levels, without purchasing any add ones. This game is fairly glitchy throughout. Ads would sometimes unpredictably pop up, prompting inadvertent activation of the ad, but not too overwhelming - probably acceptable for a free app. Oftentimes would require restarting app because of glitches while equipping cards, and seldomly during gameplay (although this occurred several times during gameplay). Gameplay progression seemed a little uneven (got stuck for sometime on middle boss sword lady), whereas later bosses less problematic. After finishing, acquired mercenaries lost all equipment options (glitch). Like the art, gameplay generally, but still needs a lot of work on glitches throughout the game.

### 5/5 — Nice Game

*2020-05-14*

I have enjoyed playing this game, It is unique with interesting characters and unique style. It offers just enough distraction to be entertaining but can easily be put down when attention is required in real life. It’s quite a challenge and fun to play. All together it’s a pretty good game that I’ll probably keep playing for a while. Thanks.
