SoundMeter X turns your iPhone or iPad into a handheld data-logging sound level meter (SLM), data-logging noise dosimeter, stereo signal generator, multi-channel data recorder, and real-time whole or 1/3 octave band spectrum analyzer (subscription or perpetual license required for most features--14-day free trial available). Input signals can be acquired from any available audio input path. Sensitivity calibration can also be performed for any audio input device and/or input channel. Direct hardware support (automatic sensitivity calibration, based on factory-defined values) for The Modal Shop’s 2-channel 485B39 USB-ICP interface and miniDSP’s UMIK-1, UMIK-2, and EARS microphones. In addition to real-time sound level measurements, SoundMeter can stream raw sound data to audio files, and store acquired sound level data, including date, time, and location, in CSV or TXT (tab-delimited) files, MAT-files, or high-resolution PDF images for later retrieval from your device. SoundMeter may be downloaded for free from the App Store. Additional tools and features are offered via in-app purchase. A little while ago this software was disabled and replaced by a new version that now requires a rental fee to operate. Sorry but I feel ripped off. Why should I now have to pay for the use of the system I bought and was then disabled by the excuse of no update to pay more. Shame on you. It has excellent accuracy given that this is a mobile app. It’s not far off a measurement taken with a professional unit. I don’t get the previous review that rates this app as fake???? Could it be that a little knowledge of sound acoustics might help? ### 1/5 — Horrible *2021-09-21, version 11.4* Fake app ### 5/5 — Best SLM app out there *2021-01-12* I tested the app with 4 different phones of 4 different generations, and every one was 0.5 dBA from my type 1 meter when measuring white noise. I’m floored. I have been recommending this app to everyone. For 99% of people, the free portion of this app is all you’ll ever need. ### 1/5 — Cheaters *2020-12-22* I installed Sound Meter years ago and spent under a hundred dollars upgrading tools. Now I cannot even access the purchased tools because of unfettered profit subscription and decision not to support prior legacy sales. Do not buy services! Any company that sells add -ons for 100 dollars, then discontinued legacy support cannot be trusted. **Developer response:** Hello sjrdragon, We supported SoundMeter and gave away free upgrades for nearly 10 years. Unfortunately, we cannot offer discounted upgrades for new versions on the App Store, which is largely why we now also offer subscriptions as an alternative to the perpetual license version of SoundMeter Pro 2020. SoundMeter X offers all the functionality of the original SoundMeter, plus the Noise Dosimeter tool, for free. The original SoundMeter still runs as well as ever on versions of iOS it was developed for and supported on. Please contact us if you have any other questions or concerns. ### 1/5 — Almost a fraud *2020-06-25* Bought Soundmeter Pro 3 years ago for $99. Doesn‘t work in IOS 13, no support. Now I‘m expected to buy a plan. That won‘t happen... ### 1/5 — Rip-off, zero upgrade path for existing users *2020-05-17, version 10.5.4* The full version of this software is easily one of the most expensive items on the AppStore, and I was dumb enough to buy it. Then when FaberAcoustic released a “new” version, there was no upgrade path. Not even a 1% discount for existing users. Zero. Zilch. So, now I am half a grand out of pocket, with nothing to show for it. The developer claims the app stopped working because of operating system changes. As a developer with over a quarter of a century experience, I can definitely say that’s a very dodgy excuse. Sure, an old binary will eventually stop working, but you simply fix incompatibilities introduced by the new os version and recompile. This is exactly what the developer did, they just chose to release the new binary as a new app out of sheer greed. Bum move mate. ### 1/5 — Rip off! Save your money. *2020-04-26* Several years ago I bought the whole suit of apps from this company only to find out recently that all the products I bought have been rendered non-functional by them. Instead of being able to use the apps I already paid for, they want me to pay buy new versions. The developer response to other similar comments is you can still use your old app. If you buy a new device, you can't because they removed the old app from the App Store! Creating or signing in to a Faber Account is optional. - The tab view has been removed from SignalScope X on iPhone and iPad and replaced with a tool sidebar menu. Now, to switch tools, tap on the toolbox icon in the top toolbar to open the tool menu and then tap on the name of the desired tool. On iPad, the tool menu can be kept visible or hidden, as desired. ### 12.6 — 2024-10-30 - The IO Device Configuration menu now includes a Soft Gain option in the output options section. The software gain is a digital scale factor applied to all output signals just before they are sent to the hardware.
