### 1/5 — Can’t do anything without expensive subscriptions

*2019-11-23*

Multiple, multiple subscriptions required of all sorts and prices to do anything worthwhile. Better to pass on this one.

**Developer response:** Hello bobster1, We're sorry for any confusion SoundMeter X may have caused with its subscription options. SoundMeter X offers exactly 3 subscription tiers. Each tier may be purchased for 1 month or 1 year. If you have any other questions, or need further assistance, please contact us directly. We're happy to help.

### 1/5 — Alte Kaufversion obsolet

*2019-11-08*

### 1/5 — Don’t waste your money

*2019-09-23*

I bought sound meter and other Faber tools a few years ago and now they don’t work. They want me to buy the latest version that works with the newt OS. Dirty business right there.

**Developer response:** Hi, Pmdurrett. We're sorry that we cannot offer free product upgrades forever, though we're pleased that you have had years of use with our earlier products. You are welcome to continue to use those products indefinitely on compatible versions of iOS (they certainly still work as well as ever on compatible versions of iOS). We would appreciate it if you would review the app in question: SoundMeter X. Thank you.

### 1/5 — Unsubscribe

*2019-06-17, version 10.4.2*

How the hell do I unsubscribe?

### 1/5 — From expensive to subscription

*2019-06-10*

I purchased this app for $150+ a few years back. Now, most of the features are non-usable without a subscription. Completely uncalled for. Had I known then what I know now, I wouldn’t have given them the money. Extremely displeased.

**Developer response:** Hello System24, SoundMeter X is a separate app from what you purchased previously. Any of our legacy apps that you purchased can still be used indefinitely on compatible versions of iOS. The last update to our legacy apps officially supported iOS 11, but we're not aware of any issues on iOS 12. If you have any other questions or concerns, you are welcome to contact us directly.

### 1/5 — Abbonamento

*2019-02-12, version 10.3*

Ma siete pazzi ridicoli fate in modo di comprarlo una sola volta

### 1/5 — Awesome app, but now unstable

*2018-12-05, version 10.2.2*

I’ve used this app off and on when my SLM isn’t with me. But the latest rev is crashing with iOS 12.1, requiring uninstalling and reinstalling to get it to work.

### 1/5 — The app almost made me last for work

*2018-11-12*

I am really surprised this app doesn’t automatically shut off after an hour or so after use. Anyways when it’s on, your speakers don’t work so it essentially shut off my alarm for work at 5am. The reason I got this application was for baby sound monitoring. You think a tired and working parent will always remember to shut this off for much later alarms?

### 1/5 — Click bait

*2018-10-26*

All functions except basic sound meter require subscriptions up to $179 for one year.
Not even a way to reset readings in basic sound meter.

**Developer response:** Hi,
We'd like to note that SoundMeter X subscriptions start at $1 per month or $9 per year. Our top-tier subscription includes access to all professional measurement and analysis functions in SignalScope X.
In order to reset the meter's readings, you can simply restart it.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Not accurate

*2026-02-22*

This meter consistently reads 30 decibels higher and should not be considered accurate.

### 1/5 — Horrible

*2021-09-21, version 11.4*

Fake app

### 1/5 — Cheaters

*2020-12-22*

I installed Sound Meter years ago and spent under a hundred dollars upgrading tools. Now I cannot even access the purchased tools because of unfettered profit subscription and decision not to support prior legacy sales.

Do not buy services! Any company that sells add -ons for 100 dollars, then discontinued legacy support cannot be trusted.

**Developer response:** Hello sjrdragon, We supported SoundMeter and gave away free upgrades for nearly 10 years. Unfortunately, we cannot offer discounted upgrades for new versions on the App Store, which is largely why we now also offer subscriptions as an alternative to the perpetual license version of SoundMeter Pro 2020. SoundMeter X offers all the functionality of the original SoundMeter, plus the Noise Dosimeter tool, for free. The original SoundMeter still runs as well as ever on versions of iOS it was developed for and supported on. Please contact us if you have any other questions or concerns.

### 1/5 — Almost a fraud

*2020-06-25*

Bought Soundmeter Pro 3 years ago for $99. Doesn‘t work in IOS 13, no support. Now I‘m expected to buy a plan. That won‘t happen...

### 1/5 — Rip-off, zero upgrade path for existing users

*2020-05-17, version 10.5.4*

The full version of this software is easily one of the most expensive items on the AppStore, and I was dumb enough to buy it. Then when FaberAcoustic released a “new” version, there was no upgrade path. Not even a 1% discount for existing users. Zero. Zilch. So, now I am half a grand out of pocket, with nothing to show for it.
The developer claims the app stopped working because of operating system changes. As a developer with over a quarter of a century experience, I can definitely say that’s a very dodgy excuse. Sure, an old binary will eventually stop working, but you simply fix incompatibilities introduced by the new os version and recompile. This is exactly what the developer did, they just chose to release the new binary as a new app out of sheer greed.
Bum move mate.

### 1/5 — Rip off! Save your money.

*2020-04-26*

Several years ago I bought the whole suit of apps from this company only to find out recently that all the products I bought have been rendered non-functional by them. Instead of being able to use the apps I already paid for, they want me to pay buy new versions. The developer response to other similar comments is you can still use your old app. If you buy a new device, you can't because they removed the old app from the App Store! What a bunch of crooks!!

### 1/5 — Insoddisfatto

*2020-02-10, version 10.5.3*

Acquistata anni fa, non è più compatibile con il nuovo SO?

### 1/5 — Useless free app unless you pay big money

*2020-01-30*

Useless free app unless you pay big money
Useless free app unless you pay big money

### 1/5 — Sorry but your app stinks

*2020-01-03*

I buy on the old application sound meter octave and other tools. And there is no way to have it back.
And intentionally you make the old app not working on ios 13. This is robbery !!!!!

**Developer response:** We certainly understand your frustration that the original SoundMeter does not work with iOS 13. We removed it from sale on the App Store in July, 2018. At that time, we could not predict that iOS 13 would break compatibility with our legacy apps (iOS 11 was still current at that time). We're sorry we can't offer free upgrades forever for each app, but that would be economically impossible for us to do. You can keep running the app you already purchased on devices running compatible versions of iOS (12 or earlier). It still works as well as ever. If you need further assistance, please contact us directly.

### 1/5 — Pratique commerciale honteuse

*2019-12-28*

Ne mets plus à jour son app sciemment pour forcer à repasser à la caisse. C’est la dernière fois.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Signal scope x

*2024-09-09, version 12.5*

Programma molto professionale

### 5/5 — Excellent

*2021-12-15, version 11.5.3*

Lots of add ons can be purchased for more specialised measurements. This standalone app is excellent at what it does, (measure sound level). It has excellent accuracy given that this is a mobile app. It’s not far off a measurement taken with a professional unit. I don’t get the previous review that rates this app as fake???? Could it be that a little knowledge of sound acoustics might help?

### 5/5 — Best SLM app out there

*2021-01-12*

I tested the app with 4 different phones of 4 different generations, and every one was 0.5 dBA from my type 1 meter when measuring white noise. I’m floored. I have been recommending this app to everyone. For 99% of people, the free portion of this app is all you’ll ever need.

### 5/5 — problem solved

*2020-04-16, version 10.5.4*

I was quite outraged at the app not working on my new device, I had previously purchased the app for an older device and finding out the updated version required a subscription had me furious, I wrote to Faber expressing my outrage and was met with a polite and quick response explaining the release of an update that solved all compatibility problems, works just like it used to and with an updated GUI I quite enjoy, 100% satisfied customer again! Highly recommended.

### 5/5 — Accurate sound meter

*2019-09-30*

So I saw a lot of complaints regarding the cost of licensing and others based on folks who feel that they were cheated out of licensing. While I cannot comment on those specifics, remember that Microsoft does the exact same thing with Office 365. The developers have to pay the bills as well.

As for the free version of this app, it does what it says, and does it well. I tested it against an actual sound meter and had readings within 1 dB of each other across a wide spectrum of intensities and frequencies. For most people, I’m sure this accuracy will suffice. The user interface is fairly intuitive and easy to use. It fits the bill for my, especially since the basic version is free.

### 5/5 — Noise assessment

*2019-09-25*

These product has proven to be very reliable and very productive in my work.
I will definitely recommend it.

### 4/5 — Disable my app

*2021-12-20, version 11.5.4*

I’m into audio and spent a lot of money for a way to set up and measure sound. A little while ago this software was disabled and replaced by a new version that now requires a rental fee to operate. Sorry but I feel ripped off. Why should I now have to pay for the use of the system I bought and was then disabled by the excuse of no update to pay more. Shame on you.
Leland

### 3/5 — Fantastic, but too pricey.

*2019-09-07*

This app is excellent! It does everything it says, and it does those things well. It would easily be 5 stars… but for the fact that the majority of the app’s features are locked behind an outrageously expensive paywall.

$100 is the price to enjoy full utility from this otherwise superb audio metering app. Should you decide that a fully featured, professional app like this is necessary for your work/passion and worth the price you better be right because you’re going to owe another $100+ in 12 months. That’s right, for all that $ you don’t actually own anything.

Even worse, I suspect (but don’t truly know) that, should your subscription lapse, you‘ll be locked out of saved data that you’d already paid over $100 to create.

Despite all of my complaints, I admit that I’ve been subscribed to the ~$20/yearly basic+ version of this app for longer than I’d care to admit.

That I don’t plan to cancel should say it all. 😕

**Developer response:** Hello H0LLYW00D99,
Thank you for taking your time to share your thoughts regarding SoundMeter X. We're pleased to know that you appreciate the quality of the app.
If your concern is with ownership, you may be happy to know that we do offer perpetual license versions of SoundMeter as an alternative to the subscription-based SoundMeter X. If you need to always keep the app up to date with the newest features and tools, SoundMeter X may still be your best option.
With respect to your saved data, you will continue to have access to those files in SoundMeter X, even without a current subscription (remember to first transfer them to another device or to the cloud if you choose to delete the app from your device).
If you have further questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us directly.

### 3/5 — Flat only

*2018-10-09*

It seems that this free version does not allow to apply the A filter (only flat). Something to be aware of, because the displayed value is quite higher than it should be in dB(A).

### 2/5 — Pas de dBA

*2019-05-26*

Oui, effectivement, attention, la version gratuite n’affiche pas le niveau en dBA.
