Using this app with my Reface DX and iPad Pro via USB-C to USB-B cable, it does not transmit patches reliably. 99% of the time the data sent is corrupt and the patches to do not work. FIX THIS PLEASE! ### 2/5 — Broken functionality for years *2020-06-01, version 2.7.1* Yamaha has been aware of the issue where iOS users can’t login to the app for 3 years now. Still no fix. This is unacceptable as it ruins the functionality of the device for mobile users on a portable keyboard. The rest of the app is okay. Scrolling through local presets is kind of annoying in the tile format. It would be nice to see/adjust the parameter values in the app for each preset as well. I would love the ability to share presets if they ever fix the login issue but after 3 years I don’t think it’s going to happen. ### 1/5 — Can’t log into account on iPad app! *2020-03-09, version 2.6.0* I have an account which I can sign into on a web browser, but every time I try to long in to the app on my iPad, it tells me the login failed and to check my user ID and password. Tried on my iPad several times and on my iPhone with same results. Verified each time every thing was correct and still can’t log into the app. Tired of trying. Read others have had same issues. Waste of time! ### 1/5 — Terrible App *2020-03-06, version 2.6.0* After reading online it seems people haven’t been able to login to this app for a long time. “Failed to sign-in” over and over even if password is reset and app redownloaded. Nothing will fix. Bought the cables to connect to my phone and your app doesn’t work. Thanks YAMAHA ### 1/5 — Memory for CS *2019-07-18, version 2.5.0* You couldn’t be bothered to include memory for saving patch data on the actual instruments, so we’re stuck using your web site and iOS application. Now it appears that I can’t download patches that I made and saved in my account to my mobile device with the iOS application itself. Yes, I’m logged into my account. Why aren’t the site and application linked together???? ### 1/5 — Useless Waste of Time *2019-04-09, version 2.5.0* This app has promise, but it’s worthless at the moment. I can log into my Yamaha Soundmondo account with my Macbook Pro and save presets with no problem, but the I can’t even login with my iPhone or iPad. The app gives the message: Failed to sign-in. Please confirm your username and password. Yamaha can’t fix this after 2 months? I’m glad I didn’t waste money on a Montage, MODX or CP. I can save my Reface settings using my camera, but this app is garbage. Thankfully it’s free except the time spent trying to login. ### 1/5 — Sign In is broken *2017-07-15, version 2.1.1* This application requires signing into an account to save presets that are shared. But currently the ability to sign into the application is broken. I've talked with Yamaha support and they're aware of the issue. I was not given a timeframe for this issue to be resolved. Since I updated my Montage M to version 2.0 , I’ve been unable to use it because it has no support for this version. How much long do I have to wait to be able to use it again. ### 1/5 — Absolute garbage *2024-06-08, version 2.9.3* Infinite invalid user messages. Sign in through the website is another nightmare. ### 1/5 — Needs major improvement *2023-07-25, version 2.8.2* I like the idea of using apps that are functional, but there are some major issues: 1. No app for Mac 2. Can’t back up setlists (they are stored in the app but if you reset your phone or reinstall the app, you lose your setlists). 3. Browsing sounds is tedious and frustrating. 4. Using the soundnondo webpage on iPhone or Mac doesn’t work in safari. 5. The QR method of loading sounds is one at a time and painfully slow. I just want a way to create my own setlists, back them up somehow, and load them easily for the CS. The DX can at least save sounds onboard. Somehow, Yamaha developers failed miserably with the user experience and won’t spend the money to fix it. Very disappointing. :( ### 1/5 — Unable to log in. *2022-11-10, version 2.7.6* Like all the others, I am unable to log in, after creating an account. I have an iPad Air 3, running iOS version 15.6.1 ### 1/5 — Can’t sign in, Yamaha doesn’t care. *2021-12-25, version 2.7.4* Simply the worst experience with this Yamaha product. The app has never allowed me to sign in and the Yamaha forum moderators are rude to users who have all flagged the same issue. Why this app is allowed to be released by Yamaha and further allowed to be published in the App Store is beyond my understanding. ### 1/5 — Yup, unusable *2021-09-04, version 2.7.4* Decided to give this a try despite the reviews and sure enough this app (and website) is worthless on iOS because you can’t do the most basic and essential of things in order to use it - log in to your account. You can create an account, which apparently is just a general account for the Yamaha website, not Soundmondo exclusively. Ok fine. You get a confirmation email that you’re signed up. You can then log in on the Yamaha website, but trying log in on Soundmondo is impossible. If you’re on the app, you just get the message “Failed to sign in. Please confirm your username and password.” And if you’re on a browser, you put in your login info and then it looks like you might be getting somewhere - you have to check boxes on some familiar looking user agreements, you have to check a familiar looking box confirming you’re over the age of 18, and then you end up looking at screen to create a new account. Somehow... trying to log in after you’ve already created an account sends you to create a new account?!? And if you put in your information again on the page to create an account, you of course get a message that your email is already in use. This is ridiculous and infuriating. Why build this whole community sound design sharing platform thing, marketed largely for mobile use, and then have it be completely unusable on iOS? Just weird and annoying. ### 1/5 — Useless. Signup impossible. *2021-08-22, version 2.7.4* What everyone else is saying is true. Current iPad, current OS as of 22 August 2021. It’s impossible to create an account, either through the Soundmodo app, or through mobile Safari. I keep getting an “invalid username/password” error when I try to sign up. When I try to sign in using the same credentials I entered to register my Yamaha devices, the app and website both kick me back out to the “create new account” screen. I’d be interested to know exactly how Yamaha has made this work on any of their test iOS devices. Or if they ever have. I don’t see how they could’ve. I’d be interested to know how other users have managed to connect. Many seem to be able to. I’d be interested to know how a company that manufactures some high-end synths and keyboards manages to release such an appallingly infuriating app, without any sense of shame at their abject failure to make it even slightly functional on the VERY FIRST STEP. Nearly every other digital synth company allows users to privately store patches on their local computer. Why Yamaha requires users to sign up for some poorly attempted social network I do not understand. Why it is so hard to find MY patches, when I am constantly spammed by some featured user ‘Nicholas’? Getting the keyboard to connect requires luck. The desktop version of the application requires Google chrome. This is all bad. The keyboards are pretty good though. I just want a normal patch management tool like Korg, Arturia, Behringer and Elektron have all managed to create. ## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated) ### 5/5 — So cool *2026-01-02, version 2.12.0* It’s awesome that Yamaha thought to do this. It’s a great to expand an already very expansive instrument (I have the DX). Thank you! Please keep it going. ### 5/5 — App works just fine *2024-12-21, version 2.9.5* I have no idea what other people are doing wrong but, this app works just fine with my Reface CS. I used a USB-A to Lightning cable and fired up the app and it connected immediately. Interface is solid. The set list function is a big plus because I can quickly switch patches from one song to the next. ### 5/5 — Wonderful fun *2017-04-05, version 2.1.1* Love this app, fast and easy to experiment with different sounds, very practical as a patch library too. A++ Wish every instrument company had this. All the Reface stuff is amazing quality. ### 5/5 — Fast *2015-12-29, version 1.0.0* It works and is very fast. I've been using it with my iPad and couldn't believe how fast patches load in my CS. You don't even need their soundmondo site , you can email patches as QR codes and just hold your phone/iPad up to your monitor to scan it and the preset gets stored instantly in your library. Note- remember to enable camera access to the capture app in your settings. ### 4/5 — Useful but basic *2016-06-15, version 2.0* I've been using this with the reface DX, and does what it says on the tin: provide an outboard memory for patches, with access to many more via the Soundmodo site. FEATURE REQUEST: auto-detection of which reface model you're connected to. ### 4/5 — Include soundmodo access please *2016-01-22, version 1.1.0* Given that a iDevice can't run Chrome webmidi, please allow the ability to browse and download patches from the website via this app. It doesn't make sense to have to connect and disconnect the reface from midi to save third party patches locally. ### 3/5 — MODX *2020-07-03, version 2.7.2* App doesn’t work with FMX smart morph. Thank you ### 3/5 — Better than nothing, needs fixing *2016-09-01, version 2.0.2* Pros: you can save presets with it, and even transfer presets between iDevices using the QR scanner. Cons: the cloud access is broken. You can log into Soundmondo and browse publicly shared presets. I'm guessing you can also download and use them successfully. But I've tried uploading a private preset, which seems to have happened, but I'm not able to view it in my profile. If I try to upload it again, it gives an error saying there's already a preset with that name. 😕 PS: when they say you need google chrome for web access to it, they must mean on an actual desktop, because it doesn't work in chrome on iPad. Yamaha needs to come to terms with the fact that nobody else likes desktop computers as much as they apparently do.
