## What is SourceCanvas?

SourceCanvas is a local workspace for writing, previewing, and exporting visual source. Work with SVG markup, Mermaid diagrams, and Graphviz DOT without sending documents to a remote rendering service.

Write beside the live preview
• Edit SVG, Mermaid, or Graphviz DOT with syntax highlighting, diagnostics, and find and replace
• Open .svg, .mmd, .mermaid, .dot, and .gv files, plus Mermaid and DOT code blocks in Markdown
• Start from templates for SVG, flowcharts, sequence diagrams, class diagrams, and Graphviz
• Learn and build flowcharts, sequence diagrams, class and state diagrams, ER diagrams, Gantt charts, mind maps, timelines, architecture diagrams, and more
• Zoom, pan, fit to screen, switch backgrounds, and collapse the source panel when the preview needs more room
• Save source or export the rendered result as SVG, vector PDF, or PNG 1x/2x/3x

Local and deliberate by design
• SVG, Mermaid, and Graphviz rendering runs on the device
• External SVG resources are blocked by default; enable secure remote resources only when a document needs named HTTPS or local resources
• SourceCanvas does not require an account, include advertising analytics, or upload your documents

MCP Agent on macOS
• Enable the signed local Agent Service from Settings
• Use Configure Installed Agents to register SourceCanvas with ChatGPT desktop/Codex CLI/Codex IDE, Claude Desktop, Cursor, Visual Studio Code, and Gemini CLI
• SourceCanvas may ask for access to a client's configuration folder, changes only the sourcecanvas MCP entry, and keeps a local backup for file-based clients
• AI agents can validate, render, inspect, preview, and export supported diagrams through seven MCP tools, Resources, and Prompts
• MCP traffic stays on the Mac through stdio and the local Agent Service. SourceCanvas does not record host conversations or enable automatic tool approval. The selected AI host's own privacy terms still apply to information you send to that host

The MCP Agent is available on macOS. iPhone, iPad, and Apple Vision Pro remain focused document editors and do not expose the local Agent Service.

PlantUML TestFlight participants wanted

SourceCanvas 1.3.1 update
- Added secure remote resource controls. SVG previews block external resources by default to avoid unexpected network loads.
- You can allow HTTPS and local HTTP images, fonts, stylesheets, and SVG references when a real SVG file needs them for a complete preview.
- The preview now explains when remote resources are blocked, unsupported, or fail to load.
- PNG/PDF export checks remote resource state first. If resources are blocked, fail, or time out, export stops with a clear message instead of producing an incomplete file.
- Mermaid and core SVG rendering continue to run locally without a remote rendering service.

### 1.3 — 2026-06-04

SourceCanvas 1.3 update
- Unified the app name, icon, and default sample around SourceCanvas, with Mermaid included in the icon.
- Refreshed iPhone with a three-row toolbar, icon-only Open and Save controls, and pinch zoom in the preview.
- Removed the iPad left file/recent rail and improved the top command area and full bottom status.
- Replaced Reset Zoom with Fit Screen.
- Preview backgrounds now work for SVG and Mermaid, including paper, mist, and slate choices.
- Export menu labels are now PNG 1x, PNG 2x, PNG 3x, and PDF.
- Mermaid JavaScript exceptions now show friendly user feedback with debug code M01.
- macOS no longer shows the visible Source Type label in the toolbar, and macOS/visionOS zoom buttons are cleaner.

### 1.2 — 2026-05-12

Mermaid preview update
- Added local Mermaid diagram preview.
- Open .mmd and .mermaid files, or paste Mermaid source directly.
- Added Auto, SVG, and Mermaid source modes.
- Added Mermaid background color choices.
- Improved zoom behavior so enlarged SVG and Mermaid previews can be inspected without clipping.

### 1.1 — 2026-04-28

Version 1.1 adds a richer SVG code editing experience with improved syntax editing, a built-in app icon SVG sample on launch, better toolbar layout on iPhone portrait mode, and compatibility fixes for iOS and visionOS. This update also improves preview reliability and overall testing coverage.
