## What is Sow?

Bring your outdoor space to life—with the right ideas, the right plants, and the tools to keep them thriving.

Sow is an all-in-one landscape planner and garden companion that helps you visualize new ideas, choose plants suited to your space, identify and diagnose plant problems, measure sunlight, map your property, and manage your yard with confidence.

More than an AI image generator, Sow gives you the real plants, practical planning tools, and care guidance to turn inspiration into a thriving outdoor space.

DESIGN AND VISUALIZE YOUR YARD

See what your outdoor space could become before you buy, dig, or build.

Generate landscape ideas from a photo, explore different styles, and refine your plan with easy-to-use editing tools. Create bird’s-eye layouts, arrange plants and furniture with drag-and-drop controls, and use satellite imagery and site plans to organize everything from one bed to an entire property.

Turn inspiration into an editable landscape plan built with real plants.

CHOOSE PLANTS THAT WILL THRIVE

Explore more than 10,000 trees, shrubs, perennials, grasses, native plants, vegetables, groundcovers, and cultivars available from nurseries and garden centers.

Find plants suited to your:

• Hardiness zone and local climate
• Sunlight and growing conditions
• Available space and desired mature size
• Preferred colors, styles, and bloom seasons
• Water and maintenance preferences
• Landscape goals, from privacy to pollinator support

Compare online nursery availability and prices when you are ready to plant.

MEASURE SUNLIGHT BEFORE YOU PLANT

Avoid guessing whether a spot is full sun, part shade, or deep shade.

Use Sow’s AR sunlight tool to analyze the sun’s path from any location in your yard. It accounts for sunlight blocked by trees, buildings, fences, and other obstacles as the sun moves across the sky, estimating how many hours of direct sunlight that spot receives.

Use the results to choose the right plants, place them where they can thrive, and avoid costly mistakes.

IDENTIFY PLANTS AND DIAGNOSE PROBLEMS

Take a photo to identify an unknown plant, learn about it, and save it to your collection.

When a plant or lawn looks unhealthy, Plant Doctor analyzes symptoms such as yellowing, wilting, pests, or poor growth. Get likely causes, practical treatment steps, and prevention guidance to help your plants recover.

MAP AND MANAGE YOUR OUTDOOR SPACE

Create a living map of everything in your yard.

Record the locations of plants, beds, patios, paths, structures, and other landscape features. Organize projects, save photos, and keep a useful history of what you planted and where.

SMART WEATHER, WATERING, AND CARE GUIDANCE

Use local forecasts, rainfall history, drought conditions, frost dates, and watering insights to understand what your landscape needs.

Track plant care, receive helpful growing tips, and make better decisions based on your plants, location, weather, and growing conditions.

SHARE IDEAS AND GET FEEDBACK

Share landscape designs and garden projects, ask questions, discover new ideas, and get feedback before making changes.

PLAN ON MOBILE OR WEB

Your designs, maps, plants, and garden information sync with usesow.com, so you can plan and manage your outdoor space from your phone or computer.

Sow can help you:

• Redesign a front yard, backyard, or garden bed
• Plan native, pollinator, privacy, and vegetable gardens
• Identify unknown plants and diagnose struggling ones

### 1/5 — Not professional. Billed me unexpectedly

*2026-08-10*

This app is fine for home DIY. It does not create professional, presentable concepts. Further, I thought I would be billed monthly, I was surprised by a $100 bill for the year I don’t recall signing up for. Very upsetting.

**Developer response:** Thank you for the candid feedback. We’re sorry the subscription charge caught you by surprise.

Please reach out to me directly at dan@usesow.com so I can help you look into the subscription and point you toward the appropriate refund options if the purchase wasn’t what you intended. We appreciate you giving Sow a try and sharing where the experience fell short.

### 2/5 — Limited and Disappointing

*2026-06-28*

Purchased with very high hopes and am left frustrated and disappointed. Many plant pictures are either cutoff or distorted. The AI ignores accurate size and scale. The plant editor is limited to 1 dimension. The My Plan is only for fruits, vegetables and flowers. When uploading photos, you can crop and zoom but you cannot adjust the angle, dimension or rotate. Furthermore, it is very difficult to accurately edit plants and objects from a photo, such as removing existing plants from an area. The plant details lack valuable information, such as bloom times. The map editor wants a straight over the top picture but loads a satellite view that is very much angled and basically useless. In the plant editor, there needs to be a scale function instead of manually adjusting every plant. When multiple plants and objects are added, it is very difficult to select the right plant. The app has potential but I wouldn’t recommend for anything more than a smaller, basic shaped design.

**Developer response:** Thank you for the detailed feedback, and I’m sorry the app felt frustrating for your project. We're a small team building Sow, feedback like this is exactly what shapes our roadmap. I have some good news: based on your feedback we released an update that includes several things you asked for:

✓ Bloom times included in the "Plants / Objects" menu
✓ Group scale and delete functions in Plant Editor
✓ Improved selection, dragging, resizing controls in Plant Editor
✓ Adding plants now auto-adjusts their dimensions based on their real world size

Plant auto-detection (to remove existing plants, for example) from an existing photo is on our list but requires deeper work to get right. We're also working to expand whats included in the My Plan/Garden Planner. Your suggestions are great, you're clearly the exact type of experienced user we're building this for. Sow is improving quickly, if you're open to being a beta tester for upcoming features, I'd love to connect: dan@usesow.com Update when you get a chance and let me know how the new release is working out. 🌱

### 2/5 — Nice App, But AI? Really?

*2026-05-26*

Wow, I thought I’d found a fantastic garden planning app. Then, I realized they were using AI for all their features. Considering how badly AI harms our environment, surely anyone who liked the outdoors would prefer not to use it. Also, many of their “numerous plant listings” are duplicates. It would declutter a lot to remove those and put cultivars under the main plant name.

**Developer response:** Thank you for the thoughtful feedback — and for caring about the environment. We share your concern about environmental impact.
To clarify a misconception: the vast majority of Sow's features don't use AI. Its a minority of the experience, used selectively for things like design inspiration — features many of our users find genuinely valuable for getting outside and doing more with their outdoor spaces.
On the duplicate plant listings — that's fair and helpful feedback. We've just released an update that should fix this.
We hope you'll give Sow another look. If you have any other suggestions or feedback, we'd love to help - our team can be reached directly at hello@usesow.com.

### 1/5 — Great idea but needs work

*2026-05-11*

There’s need for a great app to plan and manage your garden but imo this isn’t it.

First, an iPhone screen is too small to design and manage a property on. Potentially having an iPad version would help but it likely also needs a web-based login so you can work on a full screen.

Second, despite a button to upload my own floor plan, I did not find a way to do this successfully. That button just generated another map based on the Google Maps screenshot. The problem with the Google Maps screenshot is it’s dated and before my major renovation. So nothing applies.

Next, even if I went with the “automatically generated” layouts, I didn’t see a way to edit and remove or adjust the plants it suggested. Maybe I gave up too quickly but that just means the UI isn’t intuitive enough.

It’s too game-ified. I’m not looking to win badges or compete against other players. That’s what games are for. I’m looking to design and manage the landscaping of my properties.

Wishing you guys luck in making this an even better app in the future. It’s a great idea. 💡

**Developer response:** Thanks for the thoughtful feedback, Peter. We hear you on the challenges of designing/managing on an iPhone screen. Just so you're aware, we have a web version (usesow.com) available that you might find easier to use. Hope you get a chance to try it out and let us know what you think. The app has also been updated so you can now use any image on your phone, so you aren't blocked when standard Google Maps screenshots get outdated.

Would love to hear more if your open to it. We move quickly on user feedback, feel free to email us anytime at hello@usesow.com 💚

### 5/5 — Addictive

*2026-04-28*

Addictive and educational!

**Developer response:** Thanks for the review, we're glad you're enjoying it!

### 2/5 — Cool idea but AI is bad.

*2026-04-27*

I was looking for help to plan a dog-safe garden. I prompted this a few times: make a garden safe for dogs with no plants considered toxic to dogs. Over and over it kept putting delphinium in the plans! Even when I said “no delphinium it kept it in the plans. All parts of these plants are highly toxic to dogs. Please fix whatever AI prompts you’re passing to the LLM to make sure stuff like this works!

**Developer response:** Hi there, thank you for the feedback and trying Sow. We have pet-safe plant filters in the app, but your right, they were too hard to use/discover. We've made them better integrated into the design workflow and easier to find: tap the green + button, choose Tag Design, and you'll see a Pet Safe badge. Including that tag will make sure every plant in your design is pet-safe.

Hope you'll give it another try for your pup's garden — it should work the way you expected now. 🌿 We'd love to hear how its going at hello@usesow.com (or any other feedback you may have!).

### 1/5 — Useless

*2026-04-17*

Map editor only has sat photos that are at least 8 years old. Our home has been here since 2017 and the sat view only has an empty lot.

**Developer response:** Hi Donna,
Thank you for the feedback — and I completely understand the frustration of seeing an empty lot where your home now stands. Sow relies on third-party satellite imagery providers, so unfortunately we don't have control over how frequently those images are updated. I'm sorry this impacted your experience.

The good news is that most of Sow's features work independently of the satellite view — you can upload your own photos of your yard to create designs, browse plant recommendations tailored to your space, and use the seed calendar to plan and track what you're growing throughout the season.

I hope those tools still make Sow worthwhile for you, and thank you for giving it a try! If you have other feedback or feature ideas, I'd genuinely love to hear them — reach out anytime at dan@usesow.com. As a small team, every user's input has a real chance of shaping what we build next.

### 4/5 — Wish it auto-saved designs

*2026-04-13*

I just started playing around with this app today and so far I like it a lot compared to what else is on the market. I mostly use the “editor” function to place plants where I want them. I have not used the AI functionality yet. However there are a couple of very important changes I’d love to see addressed for me to stay a subscriber:

1. Many of the plant images are not full plants, just a snippet of the plant’s flowers or a cluster of branches. This makes it really hard to visualize the actual size and shape of a plant. I have just been substituting other varieties in this case but it’s really annoying.

2. I wish the editor auto-saved your design. Today I spent an hour on one design, got a phone call and went back to it after only to find it had not saved my progress. All my other editing apps (like Canva, etc) auto-save works so this doesn’t happen.

**Developer response:** Thank you so much for this, we're happy to hear it's standing out compared to what else is on the market.

You've hit on two things that we've also been super focused on.

1. Plant images — you're right, a lot of them were closer shots of the plants. We've recently updated our library with thousands of new images that are all full height images of plants. Hope you find them useful!

2. Editor design saves — good news, the editor now auto-saves! You don't need to worry about manually saving, it will always save what you've done so its ready for you to pick back up later.

Thanks for the great suggestions. We'd love to hear more about your experience if your open to it, reach out anytime at dan@usesow.com. We'd be happy to share previews about whats coming up next. 🌱 Thanks again for giving Sow a try!

### 5/5 — Handy around the yard

*2026-04-04*

I can put together ideas quickly from my phone and it saves them and makes them presentable. It’s super fast and easy for that. Plant Id also helped me log what i had and then map it so I don’t forget where I planted everything. Overall 10/10.

**Developer response:** Thanks so much for the kind words and the 10/10! 🌱

### 5/5 — Best app for landscape planning!

*2026-04-03*

What I like is it’s not just generic suggestions. You can actually move stuff around and think through a space before you spend any money. This feels closest to real landscape planning to me.

**Developer response:** Thanks for the review! So glad it feels like real landscape planning to you.
