## What is SowAtlas?

SowAtlas is a garden planning journal for seed starters and backyard growers. Track plant varieties, sowing dates, beds, watering, harvest notes, seasonal observations, and what to repeat next time.

Key features
- Local workspaces for personal records
- Searchable notes and saved details
- Focused tools for the app's core workflow
- Export or share through system controls where available
- Designed for iPhone and iPad

The app is local-first. It does not require an account, does not include third-party analytics SDKs, and does not send your records to a developer server.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 2.2 — 2026-08-21

Improves garden planning with clearer variety, sowing, bed, watering, harvest, and seasonal-observation workflows across iPhone and iPad, plus focused local export and sharing.

### 2.1 — 2026-08-06

SeasonBoard: Bed occupancy, succession, frost checks, seed runway, and yield scenarios.

- Choose garden, season dates, frost assumptions, and available beds
- Lay crop durations and succession intervals onto bed occupancy
- Check rotation, companions, pest history, seed inventory, and GDD context
- Compare conservative and ambitious yield scenarios
- Export a planting brief with source assumptions and review dates

### 2.0.1 — 2026-06-26

This update sharpens the interface: the iPad layout now uses a centered, comfortable reading width instead of stretching edge to edge, plus small display fixes. iPhone is unchanged.

### 2.0 — 2026-06-21

SowAtlas 2.0 — a pro upgrade that turns sow schedules into a full season plan, still 100% offline.

• Seed Inventory & Viability Tracker: per-crop storage life, an age-to-germination model, germination-test logging, and a seeds-to-sow calculator.
• Germination Soil-Temperature Guide: a soil-temp slider with per-crop verdicts, viable bands, and estimated days to sprout.
• Frost Guard: enter tonight's low, pick a cover, and see which plantings are at risk and the lightest cover that saves them.
• Harvest Forecast: live days-to-harvest countdowns, projected yields, and a PDF season-plan export.
• Planting Reminders: on-device sow / transplant / harvest alerts computed from your frost dates.
• Growing-degree-day calculations throughout.

All horticultural data is bundled and computed on-device. No account, no network — everything stays on your device.

### 1.3 — 2026-06-15

Version 1.1 adds two major new guides that turn SowAtlas into a complete offline gardening advisor:

Pest & Disease Guide — 23 detailed entries covering the most common vegetable garden threats: aphids, hornworms, squash vine borers, spider mites, powdery mildew, early and late blight, fusarium wilt, slugs, deer, and more. Each entry shows symptoms to look for, organic treatment steps, prevention practices, and an identification tip. Filter by category (Insects, Fungal, Viral, Bacterial, Mollusks, Mammals, Nutritional) or search by pest name or affected crop. Crop detail pages now surface a Pest & Disease Advisory for that specific crop — tap any listed pest to jump straight to the full entry.

Crop Rotation Planner — SowAtlas now examines what you planted in each bed and recommends which plant family group to grow there next year. The four-year rotation cycle (Brassicas → Legumes → Nightshades → Roots/Alliums) is the most-cited way to break pest and disease accumulation in vegetable beds. The Rotation tab shows each bed's last-planted group, which groups to avoid, and which to prioritise this coming season — backed by guidance from RHS, Cornell Cooperative Extension, and Penn State Extension.
