### 3/5 — Needs update for latest iPad

*2019-05-27, version 2.0*

Needs update for latest iPad 12.9.

### 2/5 — Great Game ... But Crashes Now.

*2015-09-18, version 1.00*

I like this game a lot ... But after the last IOS update it crashes and is unplayable.

### 2/5 — without any sound

*2015-05-28, version 1.00*

Downloaded for the iPad. The game works without any audio. Other content works with audio on the iPad. I even tried to reset my device without any luck.

### 4/5 — Good game but crashes randomly

*2015-04-24, version 1.00*

It has been crashing randomly and I have iPad mini 2 it is an amazing game though

### 2/5 — Love these type of games

*2015-02-06, version 1.00*

I'm giving -3 stars because there is no movie option at the end. In Dragon's lair, after you beat it, you unlock the option to watch the whole game instead of playing it. Why does this game not have that? Half the time I miss the cool animations because I'm so concentrated on making the right maneuver. These games are beautiful. I wanna watch them!

### 2/5 — Meh

*2014-11-08, version 1.00*

Fun graphics but doesn't age well.

### 4/5 — Great to play again ...

*2014-03-14, version 1.00*

...great to see this game again after playing and completing it in the arcades as an 11 year old. Problem is the flashing prompts on iPad made it so easy, once I'd completed it I felt there was nothing more to do or see, so it was deleted within 10 mins.
Although I know if I ever want to go back to my childhood arcade days it's always there to download again, which has to be a good thing!

### 3/5 — Just like the old days

*2014-02-24, version 1.00*

But keeps crashing if you make a wrong move. Great to see it again .. Many childhood memories

### 4/5 — Nostalgic - works on iOS 7

*2013-10-18, version 1.00*

Brings back memories and lets you finish a game most would have never been able to before unless they had heaps of coins.
The frustration of working out and memorising the sequences of button presses is made easier with indications of what button to press next. The graphics still hold up to the test of time, but the gameplay does not. Turn on infinite lives and you can finish the game in about 15 mins. Was worth $5 to me as I wanted to bring back the memories, but avoid it if you are looking for a game with lasting gameplay

### 3/5 — Beautifully drawn...

*2013-09-23, version 1.00*

...but this is not a game. It looks fantastic of course but you don't get to enjoy it since you're too busy looking for the arrows to light up. Unplayable rubbish.

### 2/5 — Crashes!

*2013-03-14*

Great game, but it keeps crashing.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — WTH !!???

*2026-05-17, version 2.0*

Bought this with the understanding that it would be HD and would fill the screen on my iPad. Boy was I wrong ,this is exactly the same version as the one I downloaded and bought years ago, (non hd) and it’s the same thing. The only difference is that the clock and the date of the device is hidden now… You’re charging me five dollars for that?Requesting a refund from the App Store right now, delete!

### 1/5 — Dude… Dude! I mean, kinda heartbreaking…

*2023-04-11, version 2.0*

One can’t even get past the first challenge, even if one has been able to get pretty far on Dragon’s Layer (from the same developer / publisher). Yeah, I know I’m old and don’t have the reflexes that I did can when these games were in their original laserdisc form in the arcades, but I’m also old enough to know when an app is totally buggy and in a way that can be discerned within just a couple minutes or two of initial gameplay. Bummer.

### 1/5 — Plays Terrible Don’t Buy

*2018-01-04, version 2.0*

Ever since this latest update, they’ve removed key things. The ability to change the control size and switch from left to right. Also if you set the controls to no hints the movement displays disappear and you can’t play. The classic arcade screen is extremely terrible and unnecessary. I’ve had these on my iPad for over 3 years and loved them but since the update I’ve deleted all of them. If I could get a refund I would but instead I’d warn everyone don’t get it till they fix these issues.

### 1/5 — Since recent update DONT WORK

*2017-12-28, version 2.0*

iPad 2 worked beautifully until the recent update. No controls, screen shrunk, no sound sometimes. Why don't they fix it. It worked to well before. Dragons Lair is the same crap too since the update. Don't buy game is broken

### 1/5 — PLEASE UPDATE FOR IPAD PRO!!!

*2017-07-30, version 1.00*

I had this for my older iPad and It worked flawlessly but now that I have the pro,I won't even get 30 seconds into the game before It crashes on me.😔😩😭

### 1/5 — Can't work properly

*2015-11-13, version 1.00*

This was an incredible game that my older brother and I would spend countless hours playing! Yet, Apple and their infinite wisdom have patched their OS and now the game doesn't play. Save your money til this gets fixed or find it in an old arcade if they still exist.

### 1/5 — Problem

*2015-09-18, version 1.00*

Love the game however its quitting when i’m starting the game. i’m using an iPad Air 2 128gb.
Rebooted, deleted app and reinstalled.. same problem. Incompatible with iOS 8.4.1?

Please fix this ASAP.

### 1/5 — Bad news

*2015-07-08, version 1.00*

I hate to tell you all, but since the iPad's last OS upgrade as of June 2015 it would seem that Space Ace HD no longer works on the current iPad setup. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling but it hasn't helped. And I have had no response from Digital Lesiure on fixing it. Save your money and don't bother.

### 1/5 — Not impressed

*2014-02-02, version 1.00*

You start the game trying to get into your ship after "energizing." I can't get to the ship before the game crashes. I'm on an iPad mini retina. I'm hoping the game devs see this and fix it.

### 1/5 — Still crashing well over a year without a fix?

*2013-12-26, version 1.00*

Is this the worst developer on ios? This is beyond unexceptable and should be handing out refunds.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Much Loved

*2022-10-20, version 2.0*

This game created many fun times at the arcade when I was young and it’s a blast to still be playing it near the end :D

### 5/5 — Update

*2017-09-02, version 1.00*

This app needs updating and mfi joystick controls!

### 5/5 — Great Game, will it get updated?

*2017-07-28, version 1.00*

Great classic game done well for the iPad. Will it be updated for iOS 11? I sure hope so.

### 5/5 — Well done!

*2015-11-19, version 1.00*

Awesome game, animations are brilliant. The cartoon artistry is simply amazing. Love it. Play it over and over and then increase difficulty and it gets challenging 😀😀👍👍👍👍great work guys👏💪👍

### 5/5 — This is it❗️😀👍

*2014-12-08, version 1.00*

Back in the 80's, there were several exceptional video games in the arcades; Dragon's Lair, Space Ace and Cliff Hanger.

Those were my top favorite laserdisc video games.

Of those three, Space Ace was the top game for being the only one that offers the player choices throughout the game.

For example, you may be flying your ship and you see two different paths.

Another example is when it's time to energize (if you pay attention to the on-screen visuals, you may notice another path flash brightly offering an alternative choice).

Over the decades, I have owned several different versions of this game.

This game; Space Ace HD for the iPad is the most accurate game of them all. It feels like I am finally playing the arcade authentic version of this classic.

The controls are spot on accurate and I just love hearing the beeps (other versions altered the beep tones), but this is the authentic and most accurate version ever made!

Be sure to set the lives to unlimited so you can relax and enjoy the pleasure of relearning how to master the correct moves and timing.

One word of advice, just because you see an arrow flash does not mean you need to move in that particular direction!

Experiment, experiment, experiment!

On the final boss battle, I completely avoided energizing until I reached a point in the battle were energizing was no longer an option. Instead of a death scene, Dexter energized into Ace!

Every scene from the arcade original is here!
This is what you expect when you buy this game.

If the reason you're reading this review is because you see a price tag, fear not; you get the real game!

This was the first app I purchased for my brand new iPad Air 2 and I am highly satisfied with my choice.

### 5/5 — Finally done right!

*2014-09-30, version 1.00*

I loved this game in the arcade, and this is the first version since that gives you all three difficulty levels to play since the original arcade game. I saw some people complaining that it's to easy to win and too short. The game comes set on the easiest level and the hints (move guide) are turned on. If you go into the settings and turn off the hints (move guide), then the arrow keys won't light up making it easy to play. Anyone can play with cheats and finish quickly. The challenge is to play at the Ace level with no hints and then tell me how long it takes to play! Great game, and one of the first where you are playing an actual animated cartoon. The game plays great on the new iOs8 system too! Don Bluth is still the master of hand-drawn animation!

### 5/5 — AWESOME!

*2014-09-17, version 1.00*

Ok ok ok... I have to catch my breath... I LOVE THIS GAME !!! This game is all about timing and for me memorization of sounds hehheh. I read other reviews that say there are parts missing.....let me tell you, as someone that shoveled buckets of quarters into Space Ace as well as Dragons Lair, THIS IS THE FULL GAME AND IT LOOKS SO GOOD! There are options at the beginning of the game (cadet, captain, and ace) they are not all the same game experience. ( that's all I'm saying so as not to ruin it) Also, once you get your groove on there is an option to turn on and off "move guide" that's admittedly harder than I thought. Trust me, if you loved it then, you will love it now. " get me outta heeeeear"

### 5/5 — Loved as a Kid

*2014-05-31, version 1.00*

And still loving it and dragons lair today only now i can finish them now. Buy now you will love'em too.

### 5/5 — GREAT GAME!!!

*2014-03-07, version 1.00*

Not all that difficult but not a bad game. I really enjoy games like this. Play in 'Ace Mode' worth every penny!

### 5/5 — Just like the original

*2012-11-18, version 1.00*

Despite some other reviews, I can tell you this game is just like the original. The timings are exactly like the old arcade version. I should know, I dumped a ton of quarters in that machine. The controls take a few minutes to get used to but it's a great game.
