## What is SpaceSPflight?

AstroFlight — Pilot Your Rocket Through the Solar System
Embark on an unforgettable journey across our solar system with AstroFlight, a fully 3D space exploration and flight simulation game built for iPhone and iPad. Whether you're a space enthusiast, an aspiring astronaut, or just looking for a relaxing yet challenging flight experience, AstroFlight puts the cosmos at your fingertips.
EXPLORE A LIVING 3D SOLAR SYSTEM
Spin, zoom, and glide through a beautifully rendered solar system featuring all eight planets, each with realistic relative sizes, orbital distances, and orbital speeds. Watch Mercury race around the sun while distant Neptune drifts slowly along its massive orbit. Saturn's iconic rings shimmer as it rotates, and a dense starfield surrounds you on every side, creating a true sense of scale and wonder.
Tap on any planet to learn fascinating facts — discover why Venus is the hottest planet in the solar system, why Mars is called the Red Planet, and what makes Jupiter's Great Red Spot so famous. Every planet includes bite-sized educational content that's fun for explorers of all ages.
FLY YOUR OWN ROCKET
When you're ready for action, launch your rocket toward any planet and switch into an immersive cockpit view. Steer using an intuitive on-screen joystick or connect a compatible game controller for precision control. Hold the thrust button to accelerate, and watch your fuel gauge — every second of thrust counts.
REALISTIC GRAVITY AND FLIGHT PHYSICS
AstroFlight features a genuine flight model where each planet's gravity affects your rocket differently. Heavier planets like Jupiter and Neptune pull harder, while smaller worlds like Mercury and Mars are more forgiving. Master the balance between speed, fuel, and gravity to land smoothly — come in too fast, and your rocket won't survive.
LAND, EARN, AND UPGRADE
Successfully landing on a planet rewards you with credits based on its difficulty. Use your earnings to unlock more powerful rockets in the Hangar:

Scout I — your reliable starting rocket
Voyager Heavy — increased thrust and fuel capacity for tougher missions
Titan X — the ultimate rocket for conquering the outer planets

Each rocket offers different thrust-to-fuel ratios, giving you new strategies for tackling distant worlds like Uranus and Neptune.
ACHIEVEMENTS AND PROGRESSION
Track your progress with a built-in achievement system:

First Touchdown — land on your first planet
Inner System Explorer — conquer Mercury, Venus, and Mars
Outer System Explorer — master Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune
Grand Tour — land on all eight planets and complete your collection

Your mission log keeps a running history of every launch, landing, and crash.
DESIGNED FOR EVERYONE
AstroFlight includes a friendly welcome guide that walks new players through the controls — exploring the solar system, launching, steering, managing fuel, and landing safely. Revisit the guide anytime from the Hangar menu.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 5.0 — 2026-08-21

Controls
Real keyboard support — WASD or arrow keys to steer, spacebar to thrust. Works via the GameController framework, so it's picked up automatically on Mac (and external keyboards on iPad) alongside the existing touch joystick and physical game controller support.
 Audio Fix
Fixed a bug where the audio session category (.ambient) was causing total silence whenever the device's mute switch was on — switched to .playback, which ignores the mute switch (standard for games).
Flight Feel Overhaul
Real momentum physics — previously your speed was recalculated fresh from thrust every single frame with no memory of past motion, so "landing" was really just point-and-coast. Now thrust and gravity genuinely accelerate your velocity, which persists and only bleeds off through damping — you have to actually manage deceleration to land safely, not just release the thrust button near the end.
Difficulty levels (Beginner/Intermediate/Hard) now also tune how quickly that momentum decays, so Beginner brakes noticeably faster than Hard.
 Liftoff Fix
Fixed the ground-to-space liftoff cinematic not displaying — the star system you launched from wasn't being explicitly hidden during the sequence, which could cause rendering conflicts. Also reduced an unnecessarily extreme coordinate offset that risked float-precision glitches on real hardware.

### 4.0 — 2026-07-02

Rockets

All 30 rockets now have distinct, real-world-inspired designs (Falcon 9, Saturn V, Starship, Soyuz, Space Shuttle, N1, and 24 more) instead of one shared shape
Multi-stage booster separation — rockets with strap-on boosters (Falcon Heavy, Delta IV Heavy, SLS, etc.) now jettison them mid-flight after a sustained burn

 Flight Feel

Real momentum physics — thrust and gravity now accelerate your velocity instead of directly setting your speed each frame; you have to actually manage deceleration to land safely, not just point-and-coast
Ground-to-space liftoff cinematic — every launch now lifts off from a pad, climbs through a sky-to-space color transition, then hands off to normal flight (skippable)
Hyperspace warp-jump — switching star systems now triggers a streaking-stars, screen-flash transition instead of an instant teleport (skippable)
3 difficulty levels (Beginner/Intermediate/Hard) — actually retune steering response, gravity strength, fuel burn, landing tolerance, and hazard intensity, not just cosmetic labels

 New Content

Environmental hazards: asteroid fields, solar flares, and atmospheric turbulence on select planets, with bonus credit rewards
Mission/challenge mode — ~21 auto-generated timed and fuel-budget objectives across all 11 galaxies
Docking mini-game — one space station per galaxy, zero-gravity precision docking with stricter speed tolerances than planetary landing

 Progression

Persistent save system — credits, achievements, rockets tried, and progress now survive app restarts (previously reset every launch)
Cosmetic shop — 8 decal colors + 6 flame colors, purchasable with in-game credits
Game Center leaderboards — credits earned, planets landed, fastest landing, missions completed
2 new achievements (Fleet Commander, Docking Expert)

 Audio

Fully custom synthesized sound effects (looping thrust rumble, landing chime, crash burst, booster separation clunk) replacing generic system sounds
Fixed a bug where the audio session category was silencing all sound whenever the device's mute switch was on

 Bug Fixes

Fixed the liftoff cinematic not showing (star system wasn't being explicitly hidden during the sequence)

### 3 — 2026-07-01

Every rocket now looks distinct — I just replaced the single shared rocket shape with 30 procedurally-built designs modeled after real launch vehicles (Falcon 9, Falcon Heavy, Saturn V, Soyuz, Starship, SLS, Atlas V, Delta IV Heavy, and more), each with correct nose shape, fins, strap-on boosters, and paint scheme.
The rocket's 3D model now actually rebuilds when you switch rockets in the Hangar (previously the visual was static no matter which one you picked).
Rocket descriptions now note which real rocket each design is styled after.

### 2.0 — 2026-06-18

What's new in AstroFlight
Galaxies expanded — 12 star systems to explore

Beyond our home Sol System, AstroFlight now includes 11 entirely new fictional star systems to discover: Nova Cluster, Ember Reach, Verdant Expanse, Voidreach, Prism Belt, Stormwake, Goldmere Cluster, Frostmarch, Abyss Reach, Solanis Drift, and Ironfall Cluster. Each system has its own star color, atmosphere, and 3 to 8 uniquely named planets — over 50 worlds in total, each with its own size, gravity, orbit, and fun fact. Switch between systems anytime using the new star-system picker in the top bar.
30 rockets, all unlocked from day one

The rocket roster grew from 3 to 30, spanning a wide range of thrust, fuel capacity, and handling characteristics — from balanced starters to lightweight speedsters to heavy long-haul cruisers. Every rocket is available immediately, no grinding or credits required, so you can experiment with different flight styles right away.
Expanded achievements

New milestones track your progress across the bigger galaxy: Frequent Flyer (5 planets), Seasoned Explorer (15 planets), Galaxy Hopper (visit every star system), Fleet Commander (try 10 different rockets), and the ultimate Galaxy Master (land on every planet across every system).
Welcome guide and in-game help

A friendly onboarding walkthrough now introduces galaxy-hopping alongside the original flight basics, and can be revisited anytime from the Hangar's "How to Play" button.
Hangar overhaul

The Hangar now shows your full rocket fleet with descriptions for each, a Star Systems section with per-system exploration progress, and updated progress tracking across planets, systems, and rockets tried.
