Stories are 5 stars. App is fine but not great. Navigation could be improved. Needs to support Car Play. ### 2/5 — Great stories, frustrating on hotspot *2024-04-07, version 2.2.22* Our kids love the stories, which are wonderful. However there is one very frustrating problem: downloads never finish when connected to a hotspot. They get to right near the end and then just stops with “There was an error downloading your story.” No matter how many times we try. Plenty of free storage. We have no internet or Wi-Fi at home, just Android phones for us & an iPhone for them that is pretty much only for this app. It works great to download when we’re somewhere with Wi-Fi, but it’s impossible to download new stories at home. We have very fast connections & no problems with anything else. This app worked TERRIBLE for me on iPad. Sure, I moved to iPhone but I hope you will take note of this before buying it. The story’s are amazing though. The story’s all make sense and have lovable characters and amazing places. They have fantasy, and adventure and they help you cope with trouble. They are amazing story’s and this app is better then audible. Audible costs credits. Once you buy this everything is free. I feel this is the best app ever and I highly recommend it for ages 1-100. The stories are why we remain subscribers- but for $15 a month you’d think they’d figure out a way to stream audio other than being told they’ll eventually make an Android app that will connect to google? This is beyond frustrating when wanting to return to unfinished stories. It definitely needs some rethinking to mirror other audiobook apps like audible or even iBooks. ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — A review post update *2026-03-09, version 2.2.27* No reviews have been posted since they updated the app in late 2025 early 2026. We are long time listeners (10+ years). We’re sad to say the new app update has made a once wonderful family experience into some of the most frustrating moments. The update removed the ability to listen to a single story at a time, adding a timer feature (which is a great concept), and would have been amazing in tandem with single play mode. The search feature hardly works anymore, often turning up the most irrelevant story suggestions, and when you do get the correct story or chapter of stories, they are listed out of order, which means when playing via a timer or continuous mode the stories then play out of order. We can also no longer tell what stories have been played or listen too. The history feature lacks actual story history or correct history, when clicking into a story from the history section you can no longer click through to the chapter or book of stories that go with it. If you’re a Sonos user this update is much like the Sonos 2024 debacle. I really hope repair and reversal is in the works for this app and its creators. I’d hate to see this major update that they were so proud of turn into the downfall of over a decades worth of creation. Please please, just give us the old app back! I’ll happily update this review if fixes are made :) ### 1/5 — Annoying sign in - free trial didn’t work *2022-03-04, version 2.2.1* I became a member and tried to use a code for a first free month - but it wouldn’t let me use it. I also haven’t been able to sign into the app - despite changing my password 3 times in a browser, it kept saying my password was invalid. The stories are truly amazing, sweet and gentle. The first issue is the app constantly crashes. Instead of being able to open the app and begin where you left off, like most apps, you must start all over by opening up the app and then searching for the story, which can be very difficult to find. Simply hitting pause can cause the app to freeze and need to close the app and start over. This also happens if you need to slide the back or forward bar to hear a part of the story again or skip a part of the story. We use this in the car and rely solely on the app. Although we love the stories I am not sure if I will continue using sparkle stories. Please fix. ## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated) ### 5/5 — Used as a kid *2026-04-16, version 2.2.27* This app carried me through years of nights, when I was younger I could never fall asleep but these stories helped me. I listened to every single story multiple times, I’m not even exaggerating. I used to just weight for a new story or series to come out and it was one of the best parts of my life. I don’t listen to them anymore because I’m now 15 but the stories really left a lasting impact on me and my life ### 5/5 — Wonderfully engaging stories for children *2025-11-23, version 2.2.25* My child has been listening to Sparkle Stories for years. Now, at 12 years of age, she still dips into old favourites as well as new offerings. These stories are gentle (but never boring!) and suitable for kids of all ages. Some focus on relationships, or adventures, or building understanding of others, but never in a proselytising manner. She’s even learned about US history and traditions (we are Australian). I cannot recommend Sparkle Stories highly enough for the positive impact it has had on our family. ### 5/5 — Wholesome Stories! *2025-11-20, version 2.2.25* If you’re looking for wholesome, value and moral-based stories for your kids (that you don’t have to listen to first to make sure there’s no weird propaganda) this app is for you! Ever *2025-11-20, version 2.2.25* We have absolutely loved Sparkle Stories for almost a decade now. The stories are genuinely wholesome and perfect for the whole family. It’s such a great alternative to screens.
