Yá'át'ééh! (Hello!). Welcome to “Speak Navajo: Volume 2”. 

** In this second application release, we have provided more navajo and english words. In addition, a new set of images and sound files. **

This is the ultimate word dictionary for the Navajo language. "Speak Navajo" is a iPhone and iPad mobile device application that contains many Navajo and English words used for translation. At a touch of a finger, you can easily find Navajo words by searching the English word counterpart. As an enrolled member of the Navajo Tribe, I am providing all Navajo words that i have learned growing up on the Navajo reservation. As such, all Navajo words provided in this application are authentic and commonly used by the Navajo people.

As a user friendly option, the "Speak Navajo" application provides image and sound files. The image option is very useful in providing a visual that links to the Navajo word. In addition, a sound file is provided for every Navajo word that allows the user to hear the Navajo word being spoken. 

The goal of "Speak Navajo" is to provide correct, accurate and commonly spoken Navajo words to everyone interested in learning and preserving the Navajo language. I would give less than a star if I could. The biggest problem I have is that this app does not speak the words as it claims, the speak button does nothing. Also, the list of words is silly; words like ant, soldier, apple, onion but no useful words like toilet, restroom, fire, trouble, danger, etc.

This app shouldn't even be for sale. Most of the Navajo translations aren't even available. Only the basic words are available like numbers and colors. Everything else just says "word not available" in Navajo, just in English. Bought all four and am very disappointed .

This second volume app provides more Navajo words! I'm having fun scrolling through the word list hearing Navajo words being spoken by a Traditional Navajo speaker. Amazing language App!

I am buying this after having bought the first in the series, and that sums it for anyone who simply wants to know if this is a satisfying product. It is. It is well beyond satisfying; it is a terrific resource that I anticipate using for the rest of my life.

But for those would like a little detail, and detail can be important, I want underscore the fact that this is a unique product that is invaluable to anyone who cares about preserving the languages of native Americans.

Every other source I've seen, dealing with any range of languages, is relatively sparse in vocabulary, cultural context and guidance as to "tone." This series equips a beginning Navajo speaker with substantial vocabulary and an education with regard to the people themselves.

Because of the volume of the lexicon offered and ease with which you can navigate across the vocabulary I give this product the highest rating, further cemented by the fact that I know of no other American Indian resource so deep in its word list.

Most of the words do not have the Navajo spelling, and the Sounds Like spellings are ridiculously bad. So all you have is the spoken word, and some of them are difficult to hear. The word choices are odd, too. Of all the words available for the category Drink, why did the app creator choose only different words for alcohol? How about "coffee"? Totally useless app for anyone actually trying to learn the language.
