### 2/5 — Probably the longest onboarding ever

*2026-08-25, version 2.10.2*

I lost count of all the onboarding steps and painfully obvious and over used physiology tricks to get me to subscribe. Tone it down.

### 2/5 — Great, but not free

*2026-08-13, version 2.10.2*

I love this app and the way it works, but it’s not free and I see so many apps nowadays that aren’t free and that just bothers me so much also just to clarify I’ve never tried the paid version of this app so I cannot say whether that is good or worth any money

### 4/5 — Très belle application

*2026-08-08*

J’utilise depuis deux jours et suis satisfait

### 4/5 — Works great, but paywall everywhere

*2026-08-05, version 2.10.1*

This is just so I remember this when I need it

### 3/5 — good app but...

*2026-08-03, version 2.10.1*

good app but after 2 days you have to pay for everything.

### 3/5 — Great until it wasn’t free.

*2026-08-01, version 2.10.1*

It was a good app until I couldn’t pass the first lesson without a subscription.

### 3/5 — Barely accessible without payment

*2026-08-01*

Honestly this app would be amazing, one day in and Im already memorising new words. However you can only really access stuff by paying for premium. You can’t access new material or words without paying $90.00 a year (on sale). I don’t know if there are any other apps and even though 90 bucks a year Isnt to bad if you aren’t prepared to pay it maybe trying researching other solutions. I wish I could give it a higher ranking but I also wish they were open and just straight up said that there app is not free.

### 4/5 — More options

*2026-07-19, version 2.9.2*

This is such a great way to learn, I would love to suggest more options e.g. I would love to learn Swahili this way xx

### 2/5 — too much money

*2026-07-18, version 2.9.2*

this app seems great, but you have to pay too much money for it and it is inaccessible if you can’t afford that. the app teaches you only simple things like ‘hola’ and then it is required to pay

### 2/5 — Wish the app didn’t become unusable after only a few lessons

*2026-07-16, version 2.9.2*

I’ve been trying to find an alternative to a certain other (super popular) language app after it didn’t really work for me, and was so excited to find one that’s specifically designed for learning Spanish. I took Spanish classes from kindergarten through sophomore year of college, but it’s been nearly a decade since I took my last course and I’ve always wanted to push myself over the fluency threshold since I didn’t quite get there before.

Unfortunately, unlike the other language app, Palteca becomes unusable after a few lessons as you are barred from doing anything without paying for a subscription. As sad as I am to let it go, I’m not currently in a position to add onto my monthly costs in that way. Their response to other reviewers that the subscription is “only the price of a couple coffees per month” is honestly kind of disappointing (and a bit of an overused analogy at this point), as it seems like they aren’t accounting for the fact that a lot of folks have tons of expenses to keep up with and multiple $12-$15 monthly charges can add up VERY quickly.

I really wish the app developer had taken into consideration that they could still keep certain features behind a paywall while allowing people to continue using a very basic version of the app (e.g., letting users complete up to 2 free lessons/10 exercises per day and then charging a subscription fee if they want to do more). They could definitely still make money this way, as the app has a lot of potential and stands out from other alternatives on the market right now due to their methodology/lack of AI usage.

With the unaffordability that is so pervasive in virtually every aspect of life these days, I am disappointed that an app that otherwise may have had the ability to make Spanish accessible to a lot more people is locked behind yet another monthly/yearly subscription. I’d consider coming back someday if they ever offer a free version, but until then I’ll just keep searching for another alternative.

### 3/5 — Great format - Still buggy

*2026-07-11, version 2.9.2*

I’m loving Palteca and really feel like it is going to help me take my next step towards Spanish fluency HOWEVER the AI pronunciation interface is a bit buggy. Often, it mishears a pronunciation and gets stuck on it, no matter what I say. They need to fix that. I’d give it 5 stars if they did

### 2/5 — Too much

*2026-07-10, version 2.9.2*

App not very user friendly and it’s not what I thought it would be
I am not a fan of how the lessons are set up

### 5/5 — This app changed my life

*2026-07-08, version 2.9.2*

This app so good it’ll make you change your life and become someone new in another country i can never return to who I was before

### 2/5 — Could be great but

*2026-07-04, version 2.9.2*

I love the way this learning platform tries to teach but really wish speaking portions were more forgiving. As someone who is having a really difficult time rolling my “r” it is so frustrating for it to not recognize the word I’m trying to say at all. It makes me want to give up which is not an option. Leaves me feeling super defeated

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Obnoxious attempt at getting your money

*2026-08-03, version 2.10.1*

This app follows the same trite and exploitative trick so many others do. The idea is to make the sign up process so long that by the time you’ve answered the thousand questions about you and your history with Spanish and your goals and blah blah blah you will be so time-invested that when they ask you to pay for a subscription you’ll think “oh go on then I’ve been here 20 minutes I may as well pay for the first month and see”. Then you’ll find yourself in a near impossible scramble to cancel your subscription or otherwise if it’s easy enough they will just be banking on a small percentage of people simply forgetting to cancel to make their money. They have no interest in providing you a good service. The app will be basic and probably mostly AI generated. If they had any pride in the product their income model wouldn’t be based on tricking you. Do not download.

### 1/5 — Good but expensive

*2026-07-31*

I tried it but after few lessons you need to buy it and its extremely expensive. Its a good app but please do more free lessons.

### 1/5 — Autobiography

*2026-07-28, version 2.9.2*

Yall doing wayyy too much at the beginning! Why do yall have so many steps before im able to sign up?! I don’t care about other people’s reviews. I don’t care about the learning curse! Why do I have to skip through sooo many pages before I can sign up?! I’m at work trying to sign up and I’m just clicking and clicking and clicking! Like seriously! You make me want to do my actual job then continue.. why do I had to read a books worth of information before I can sign up ? Is it to discourage the lazy ones from continuing? Cause it worked. I’m so over it.

### 1/5 — Manque traduction

*2026-07-17*

Manque les traductions. On nous « apprend » à prononcer, alors qu’on connaît même pas les mots…fin y a pas de traduction

### 1/5 — Pricey

*2026-07-14, version 2.9.2*

Maybe this is the “better” way to learn Spanish, but it asks for money, which I won’t spend on an app. Duolingo has workarounds and ads so I don’t have to pay a dime.

### 1/5 — Not worth it

*2026-07-09, version 2.9.2*

paying for an annual subscription may not be justified if the content can be reviewed within a month, particularly with a daily practice of thirty minutes. Therefore, offering an annual plan is questionable. Had I been aware of this, I would not have purchased the yearly subscription and I wasted my money.

### 1/5 — Onboarding nightmare

*2026-06-28, version 2.9.2*

The concept of this app is amazing but until the 10 minute (non skippable) nightmare of an onboarding process is fixed I will be leaving this as a one star.

I read other reviews and understand the teams perspective on why they have it set up this way but it was the most infuriating start to a new product I’ve ever experienced …

### 1/5 — Misleading Experience

*2026-06-16, version 2.9.2*

I downloaded Palteca after seeing it on TikTok and was genuinely excited. Learning Spanish has been a goal of mine for a long time, and this app looked like it could finally help me stay committed. The setup process is lengthy and asks a lot of questions, making it feel like you’re about to start a personalized learning journey.

Unfortunately, after spending all that time setting everything up, I quickly realized that almost everything useful is locked behind a paywall. It felt like the app built up excitement only to tell me I had to pay before I could actually learn anything. Even the one-week free trial doesn’t seem worth it because that’s barely enough time to make meaningful progress or decide if the program works for you.

What disappointed me most is that I came in motivated and hopeful. I thought I’d finally found a way to start accomplishing my dream of learning Spanish, but instead I felt shut out almost immediately. The app may be good for people willing to pay tons, but for someone looking to try it out first, the experience was frustrating and discouraging.

### 1/5 — The setup intro FOREVER and you can’t skip it or tell how many more slides are up ahead.

*2026-06-04, version 2.9.2*

I lost interest in the sales pitch for the impending purchase.

### 1/5 — Very limited content

*2026-06-03, version 2.9.2*

After 2 months - 2 lessons per day - palteca run out of Spanish lessons - joke

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Best app ever.

*2026-08-28, version 2.10.2*

Literally deleting Duolingo. It’s so good, I’ve learned more Spanish in a day than duolingo has ever taught me. I genuinely am boutta be fluent with ts

### 5/5 — It really helped me

*2026-08-14, version 2.10.2*

I was struggling with Spanish at first but when i started plateca it made me understand spanish how I learned english😁

### 5/5 — Great language learning app!

*2026-08-07, version 2.10.1*

This is probably the best language learning app I’ve used! And I’ve used all of them 😬 Palteca teaches in a way that makes sense to me. I love that they don’t teach you the translations in a traditional sense but you learn via imagery and context. I wish I found this app sooner!

### 5/5 — Integration

*2026-08-04, version 2.10.1*

1010.

### 5/5 — The best

*2026-07-25, version 2.9.2*

This is actually the best app if you want your Spanish to be amazing

### 5/5 — Haleigh

*2026-07-22, version 2.9.2*

I’ve tried so many other apps and none of them work like this one

### 5/5 — Very unique

*2026-07-19, version 2.9.2*

I’ve never used an app like this. Every other app uses the same approach to teaching, but this Palteca is completely different. Its design is pretty simple but the content is very helpful.

Everyday it gives you learning tips to try to keep you motivated. Such as different ways to think about learning and support. Which I think is very kind.

Now onto the actual concept, it never actually tells you what the actual word means. This is good because it MAKES you think about the word. But, that also sometimes makes it confusing if they didn’t make it obvious what it means. Otherwise, it’s a very unique concept. It really helps you think in Spanish instead of just translating it for you.

I would highly recommend.

### 5/5 — I lo be this

*2026-07-17, version 2.9.2*

Tbh is made me feel happy and comfortable and confident to learn

### 5/5 — Best App for Learning Spanish

*2026-07-15, version 2.9.2*

This is just a fun and exciting new twist on learning! If I had this back then, probably woulda known Spanish out of highschool till now. It not only gives you formal but it also gives you a more casual take on Spanish speakers. It’s comforting to know that I can be more confident in having causal conversation with my family and friends rather then sounding proper and formal all the time! I also love the history and story’s behind words, you can learn at your own pace 🙏🏼 13 bucks ain’t bad!

### 5/5 — A great app

*2026-07-13, version 2.9.2*

I have tried so many Spanish apps, but all of them I just got bored of. But this one is different. I actually have fun learning Spanish. I have only done one lesson and I have learned so much already. I definitely recommend
