### 2/5 — “Auto-Detect Language function gone

*2020-03-29, version 32.0*

The app was far more useful with its auto-detect language function that it had for the past few years. Why did you drop this?

I can simply use google translate and it has auto-detection.

### 3/5 — Don't need this app

*2013-01-21, version 17.0*

You can turn on text to speech in setting which reads an selection 💥

### 2/5 — ... Pff !

*2013-01-13, version 17.0*

.. an Russian, or brilliant Romanian accent would make this app - I dunno - enjoyable in the least. This voice makes me nauseous.

### 4/5 — Perfectly functional for conversation.

*2012-12-08, version 16.1*

I just came down with a bad case of laryngitis and the app (free version) has been great for communicating with my young kids who can't simply read. It has worked flawlessly all day. Perfect free solution. Thank you, developers!

### 3/5 — Can't open from Dropbox

*2012-06-23, version 12.4*

This would easily get 5 stars if I could transfer docs from Dropbox directly to SpeakText. As is, I open the files in Dropbox, reopen them in GoodReader, and select one page at a time to paste into SpeakText. The point of using this app and paying $20 for it was to make text accessible. It is so close to being perfect, but not being able to directly load docs into the app without having to connect to the computer is very frustrating. Can you create a way for Dropbox to recognize your app and put their docs in your publications or documents folder? If I could directly upload to your app like I put things in Dropbox, that would be fine, too.
For the most part, I am very impressed with the speech recognition, although she kept reading one word wrong. When I remember what that word was, I'll come back to let you know.

### 4/5 — SpeakText

*2012-04-19, version 12.3*

This app is amazing. I tried the free version and was so excited that I decided to purchased the whole bundle. It is worth it. Thank you producers. Excellent work.

### 1/5 — Worst app ever!!

*2011-11-25, version 9.2*

Can't even figure out how to use. Must be a NASA brand surgeon to work. Not user friendly at all!

### 1/5 — Buy pro version, forget the free one

*2011-11-12, version 9.2*

Whenever you need to select something from the bottom of the screen, WAIT!!!
An ad pops up after a few seconds when it looks like there are no ads. The timing is just right, so unless you wait, you WILL click on the ad, which opens a full page ad in the app. This takes considerable time load, and is often difficult to close.
This version of, what is probably a decent app, is not worth the download

### 1/5 — Crashes every time!!!

*2011-11-10, version 9.2*

Speak & read
Yes it really does crash EVERY TIME after just a few sentences. A lot of times after just a few words. It would be a great app if they ever fix this. I've had the app for about 4 months and nothing has changed. I wouldn't even waste my time downloading it but if you want to see for yourself go for it. Just don't say I didn't warn you.

### 1/5 — Hard to use .

*2011-10-23, version 9.1*

Difficult to understand.

### 1/5 — Crap

*2011-10-22, version 9.1*

Your program is extremely hard to use especially if you switch from one function to another. You obviously spent no time testing

### 2/5 — needs improvement

*2011-10-17, version 9.0*

if the bugs can be worked out this would be a great app.
1. when the phone goes off the reading stops. there should be an option not to turn off.
2. the speech will just stop at random times. its buggy when you try to get it started again.
3. long pauses between sentences.
4. program occasionaly freezes
5. when the program is "thinking" its hard to see the grey on the black and white background.

also suggestion, diff voices

### 1/5 — Goes somewhere

*2011-10-07, version 8.0*

This app worked great only if I text somebody directly on their cell no. But when I text my husband who also has iPhone on his text free no. all texts go somewhere else. It put me in trouble and it happened twice. So frustrating !!!

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Paste few sentences & shuts down

*2015-02-06, version 29.0*

I'm glad I did not purchase this app, I tried the free one before buying, but when I pasted a few sentences to hear it speak, the app shuts down, I could not even try the speak option which is the most important, very unreliable developers as well as the app.

### 1/5 — Don't waste your time

*2014-09-12, version 26.0*

Thought I could use my voice to send text to my brother if this does it I don't know how

### 1/5 — Update is a fail!

*2013-03-05, version 18.0*

I got an iPhone 5 and now some of my websites won't read.. I paid for the English part so I'm not happy that the whole reason I got the app won't work anymore.

### 1/5 — Complete rubbish

*2013-01-24, version 17.0*

Simply unusable and unbelievably buggy and useless. Did you guys even try it yourself before releasing it?
It's a total joke and in fact really embarrassing to let your friends and family know you actually wrote this app. Please don't ever let your friends or family know about it

### 1/5 — Deleting the App.. Not even giving it a chance

*2012-10-06, version 16.0*

I downloaded this. THEN as it downloads, started reading reviews. Wow.. So many low reviews. The high reviews are not really encouraging.. So I'm just going to delete it without trying.. Seen enough.

### 1/5 — A could be success!

*2012-09-09, version 15.0*

I think this looks neat, and could be very useful! If only the 'about' portion was more clear. It looks like it was a translation of the original document outlining the product, but un-edited. Check it over (edit) and enjoy the $$. I won't download until I understand it better. The same sentence 10 times does not constitute a thorough explanation. Great idea though! Hope it works!

P.S. Stop rating yourself and start improving your app. Read your reviews and fix it. You've only made a tiny bit of money here (I'm guessing only a hundred or 2), and you could get 10x that amount, or more, per week if you just got to work for a couple of days! I dropped you two stars for your obvious boosting of your own ratings. Get to work! Stop being petty! Get rich! Get it? One star, because you should know better.

P.P.S. I downloaded this just to give you a review... Eventually You'll get flagged for boosting your own rating. Don't waste your effort on dumb crap. This app has potential.

### 1/5 — Not really free, $20!!

*2012-06-26, version 12.4*

Only reads one sentence to you then stops and says buy full version. :-/

### 1/5 — Doesn't work at all, 10 minutes I'll never get back

*2012-03-23, version 12.1*

The app won't let you type or paste text, and if it won't do that it surely won't / can't speak!

### 1/5 — Not great but ok

*2012-02-23, version 12.0*

Ok here's the deal, it does talk and will work with google and other pages but it only reads part of the page leaving you to read the rest. I was hoping I could do other things while it read to me. But it only reads a part of the page. So for me it's just ok a one star. Wish it read more...

### 1/5 — Wow.... What a waste.

*2012-02-17, version 11.0*

iPad2, iPhone4 iOS5 on both

I think they make this SO crappy so that you are compelled to BUY the full version. Do not waste your time downloading it.
1)does not function properly and runs extremely slow.
2)if you use a usb keyboard it breaks the app
3)crashed on 80% of my standard notepad, word and ios legall pad documents
4)WAY too slow to be practical (speech and navigation of app)

I am sure the people who feel they've worked very hard at compiling this application are offended at negative statements
about their program but it is far easier to wait until publishing the app rather than put something out that clearly didn't even get a cursory appointment of beta testing.

For free, well at least you can type things and have it verbally speak them but frankly for text to speech, even free, there's far better out there for ipad, iphone. Some are pay but under $2.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Love it

*2014-10-07, version 27.0*

I love this app; it became the big part of my life since I bought it two years ago. I use it mostly to listen to books from the Internet sites like Project Gutenberg that offer books in a text format. English is my second language and the 'SpeakText For Me' gives me the possibilities to listen to books, sentence by sentence, with a speed that is comfortable to me, the app translates all sentence to my native language, additionally I’m able to repeat all the difficult parts of the books as many times as needed to fully understand them. I spend with 'SpeakText For Me' one to two hours every day and, since I started using it, I have made very big improvements in my abilities to understand and speak English. I plan to use it for many more years, read hundreds more books and, at the same time, improve and perfect my English skills. I’m convinced that it is “must to have” app for everyone how tries to learn a new language.

### 5/5 — Homegirl

*2014-01-07, version 24.0*

I haven't master it yet but what little I have done has been very good.

### 5/5 — Hood Job

*2013-07-24, version 22.0*

So far yours has been the choice of my Spanish learning tool.

The best part is the number of repeats. It helps me to train my ears with different speech speed.

One comment.

After I have used it for a few months, the history size has become so large that it slows down the APP.

I could not find a quick way to erase all the recorded sentences that I have used.

I have to delete the app and reinstall it to clear my history.

I wish there were an easier way to clear my history.

### 5/5 — Awesome ! Keep up the good work.

*2013-07-12, version 22.0*

Thanks for the great new "Exercising and improving your language skills during a bike riding, jogging or walking" feature.

### 5/5 — Worked for me

*2013-03-26, version 19.0*

It took a few minutes and I was translating Japanese text into English text and it would speak it in English as well as Japanese.

I am running it on iPad mini.

### 5/5 — Amazing

*2012-11-26, version 16.1*

I'm surprised this is free. Simple but gets the job done. Helpful for my speaking handicap

### 5/5 — Best Translator App!

*2012-11-16, version 16.1*

I love how I can type anything & have it automatically translate into several languages, but my favorite aspect is how I can translate something once over the Internet & save it so that I can hear the same thing translated whenever or wherever I want, without having to be online. The one thing I hate, is that some of the languages displayed aren't actually supported; which renders them completely useless.

### 5/5 — Realy worked

*2011-09-06, version 8.0*

Easy to use very helpfull application

### 5/5 — awesome app

*2011-09-02, version 8.0*

This app really served my purpose of reading aloud a web page. I contacted customer support for an extra feature of custom pausing between two sentences. They suggested multiple solutions and which one I would prefer implemented in the updated version. I am really impressed by the promptness of the replies and willingness to add extra features on the request of the customer.

### 5/5 — Good App

*2011-08-15, version 7.2*

I recommend...
