## What is Spectati?

Plex, Jellyfin and your IPTV playlist in one app. Spectati puts your media servers and your live channels in one library on Apple TV, iPhone, iPad and Mac. Your XMLTV data becomes a full guide, and files reach your display and your receiver without re-encoding.

ONE LIBRARY
Connect Plex, Jellyfin, IPTV playlists, SMB shares and Emby (beta) at the same time. A film that sits on two servers shows up once, and Spectati plays the better copy, judged by resolution, codec, HDR and audio. Search covers titles, episodes and live channels from every source. Spectati writes your progress back to the server, so you can stop on one device and pick up on another.

LIVE TV WITH A REAL GUIDE
Paste an M3U, M3U8 or JSON playlist, or connect an Xtream provider. You get now and next, live progress, categories and a timeline you can scroll. SD, HD and 4K feeds of the same channel group under one entry. Hide, rename, sort and pin channels, and your changes survive a playlist refresh. On Apple TV you can zap up and down without leaving the player.

PLAYBACK
High-bitrate 4K remuxes direct-play, with no server transcoding. Dolby Vision, HDR10+, HDR10 and HLG go to the display. Dolby Atmos, TrueHD, E-AC-3 and DTS go to the receiver. Adjust audio delay and subtitle timing. Subtitles come from OpenSubtitles, live channels carry DVB teletext, and IntroDB skips the intro.

NATIVE ON EVERY APPLE DEVICE
Written in Swift for tvOS, iOS, iPadOS and macOS 26 or later. Spectati follows the current Apple TV user, so everyone in the house keeps their own watch history. Families get a PIN lock, locks per provider, age-rating caps and hide-from-browse.

FREE TO USE
No ads and no card. Connect up to two sources and you get live TV with the full guide, 4K remuxes in SDR and channel curation. Four Blender open movies are on Home from the first launch, so you can try the player before you connect anything.

FEATURES
• IPTV catch-up and your provider's movies and series
• Continue Watching, watch history, watchlist and favorites
• Like or Not For Me on anything, and Home rows that follow your ratings
• Skip intro, chapters, playback speed, audio modes and track delay
• Automatic subtitles, or search them yourself
• Offline downloads where your provider supports it
• iCloud sync of sources, lists and watch state
• Two-way watch history with SIMKL
• Bulk channel tools and program reminders
• AirPlay and Picture in Picture

BRING YOUR OWN CONTENT
Spectati is a player and organizer. It does not provide media, channels, IPTV subscriptions, playlists, accounts, metadata, subtitles, storage or internet access. Connect your own supported providers and only stream content you're authorized to access.

SUBSCRIPTION
Browsing, live TV and playback need no account and no subscription, with up to two sources connected. The subscription is optional. It lifts the two-source limit and adds full quality playback with HDR and surround sound, offline downloads, IPTV catch-up and on-demand, bulk channel tools, program reminders, iCloud sync of your sources, lists and watch state, automatic subtitles and SIMKL watch-history sync. It renews automatically and is billed through the App Store, with a free trial when available. You can also choose a one-time lifetime purchase. One purchase covers iPhone, iPad, Apple TV and Mac, and Family Sharing is supported. Manage or cancel anytime in your Apple ID settings.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.6.1 — 2026-09-06

NEW
• Customization options for the hero

IMPROVED
• Better stability in Spectati Media Engine
• Context menus and icons are more consistent
• Sync now shows a more representative status
• Large playlists load much faster and TV guides use far less memory
• Adult categories in M3U playlists are now recognised and gated, with per-source corrections

FIXED
• Plex now correctly shows ratings, and favourites set in Plex arrive in Spectati
• Large libraries no longer stop syncing partway through
• A library your account cannot open no longer asks you to re-enter your password
• Signing in to a second account on the same server no longer signs the first one out
• Playback progress now reaches Plex when a title finishes
• Direct streams are no longer reported as transcodes
• Un-watching on Plex no longer leaves the old resume point behind
• Live channels grouped as "Movies" or "Series" stay in Live TV
• A rejected IPTV login no longer empties the channel list
• TV guide times are correct for guides that publish in UTC
• Guides that arrive as several combined files now import completely
• Files holding two episodes now show both episode numbers
• Shows from very large playlists no longer open to an empty screen
• Playlists that use #EXTGRP, or that set a user agent per channel, now load correctly
• On Mac, the prompt to unlock your providers no longer opens partly off-screen

### 1.6.0 — 2026-09-04

Arrange it the way you watch.

Group your Library the way your server is organised, save the filters you keep coming back to, and decide how posters, rows and tabs look.

NEW
• In the Library, group by library or by source – and filter to a single server
• Save a set of filters under a name and come back to it in one tap
• Choose how posters look – titles underneath, a second line, and three sizes
• Hide the tabs you do not use, reorder them, and pick the one the app opens on
• Keep a library off Home, or hide it everywhere
• Subtitles and audio are remembered per show

FIXED
• Plex and Jellyfin could reject a correct sign-in – a server shared with you, or an account with no password
• A server that answers slowly could be given up on before it replied
• On Plex, Continue Watching and Next Up showed a frame from the episode instead of the show it belongs to
• A large Library could freeze the app for a few seconds each time it reloaded
• A download paused in the moment just after it started could carry on regardless
• Recently Added could leave out new titles another row had already shown – or go missing altogether
• On Plex, artwork could disappear when you came back to the app, and never appeared on the Top Shelf
• A Plex library could stop syncing part way through, leaving titles missing
• A channel you had hidden could still turn up in system search on iPhone, iPad and Mac

Plus playback rules per source, Home row length and style, a server address you can type without the http:// part, and one place to put every choice back.

### 1.5.1 — 2026-09-03

FIXED
• Adding a source could freeze the app

IMPROVED
• Faster initial loading
• Updated dependencies

### 1.5 — 2026-08-31

Nineteen more languages.

NEW
• Arabic, Brazilian Portuguese, Croatian, Czech, European Portuguese, Finnish, Greek, Hungarian, Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, Latin American Spanish, Romanian, Simplified Chinese, Slovak, Thai, Turkish, Ukrainian and Vietnamese

FIXED
• On Apple TV, the app could quit during setup
• On Apple TV, the remote could stop responding after a film ended and you went back to Home

### 1.4.2 — 2026-08-25

Small fixes, mostly for Mac.

FIXED
• On Mac, the player's buttons did nothing in full screen — close, full screen, AirPlay and the menus respond again
• On Mac, Spectati held on to memory the system needed, and now gives it back when the Mac runs short
• Updating your library uses less memory
