Allows people with visual disabilities to watch movies like anyone else. The app is very Voice Over friendly and easy to use. Only change that would be very helpful is to play just the Description track without the audio that is already playing from the television. Hearing voices from the Television and the app at almost the same instant is very distracting. **Developer response:** Mr Adams, thank you for your feedback. Our audio description offerings are limited to what we initially receive from the studios, but you should expect a wider variety of audio description tracks to be available shortly. It says go update it, so I click the ok, it take me to the App Store and it brings up the spectrum tv app. It says open for the button. And it is up to date. But I can’t watch any spectrum on my iPad now. How do I get this update crapper off the mini lapped. 8/3/2020 at 5:22pm. ### 1/5 — Poor *2020-06-18* The selection of African-American films was inadequate, and most disturbingly they were mostly drawn from movies directed by Tyler Perry. Most of those Taylor Perry movies feature a cross-dressed Perry playing the role of a woman named Madea Simmons. This type of slapstick comedy is somewhat racy and a poor representative of the best of African Americans cinematography. I would suggest that you expand your selection of African Americans movies to include those produced, written or directed by: Joseph Manduke, Theodore Witcher, Spike Lee, John Singleton, and other African-American rising stars. Their work more accurately portrays the African Americans experience in a positive non-denigrating way. Unlike “Gone with the Wind”, “Driving Miss Daisy” and the “Help” I’m hoping you will find classic movies and all-time greats like “Cornbread Earl and Me”, “Do the Right Thing” and “Love Jones.” These are but a few examples of movies that choreograph the African-American experience through a lens that is more realistic, less stereotypical, and non-denigrating. **Developer response:** Thank you for your feedback and we appreciate your request for more diversity in our selection of films. We will make a request to our distributor for the films listed, as well as films by the writers, producers and directors you suggested. ^JM ### 3/5 — New downloads not syncing *2023-08-24* I love to show this app to my students with visual impairments, but when trying it out with one recently, any new audio description file we download will not sync. The page says preparing to sync, but it just seems to spin its wheels and never actually sync. Previously downloaded files seem to work fine. Please fix this, my students love this app! ### 3/5 — An amazing start *2021-11-10* This app is incredible, and such an amazing tool. I have ADHD and audio processing issues, so being able to have AD going in my ear as my brain (and eyes) get carried to other things is awesome. The CC feature is also fantastic. The only downside is the limited library. This is something that would be especially great to be able to use in theatres, (I would have pulled up the CC in an *instant* when watching Dune), but the “in theaters” selection is pretty much all movies I’ve never even heard of. As of now, I don’t have lots of opportunities to use the app bc of its limited selection, but if major releases (Dune, Eternals, etc) were on here, I’d be using it constantly. **Developer response:** Thanks for your feedback! . I absolutely love it! Thank you so much for developing an app like this.I am so very excited about this new technology. I have been waiting for it for a long time and hoping it will be available on all TV shows movies etc. just as close captioning is. Thank you so much for providing this for free and the only reason I gave it four stars is I have just started using it and there are not many TV shows at all on it. Is there anyway other than checking the app occasionally to find out when new programs and movies are being added? You can also discover our content here: https://access-app.spectrum.net/. ### 4/5 — Nice Accessibility- still need more titles added and no ASL interpreting/limited kids options *2021-08-01* Previously the Actiview app had movies like Wonder with ASL interpreting and disappointing this didn’t carry over to this app. We really need more like this for kids, especially to have access. My daughter is in 2nd grade and starting to read is only now starting to understand many popular mainstream movies because Deaf children who don’t read currently have 0 access. **Developer response:** Hi and thank you for your valuable feedback. I’m not sure what changed, but now it works perfectly. Synced almost instantly to the movie I tested with. I’ve updated this because I think the app deserves a fair review, but in response to the developers, I’m running IOS 14.6 on iPad 6th. **Developer response:** Perfect. Thank you ### 5/5 — Fabulous! *2021-01-05* I was skeptical at first because most AD isn't great but I've been pleasantly surprised with not only how well it syncs up with the play from a TV, iPad or any audio source but reacts to a pause/stop and restarts again with no issues! Also there's been lots of content from paid streaming shows like HBO which I didn't expect. If their content can continue to expand, I see this as a staple for the blind community which has yet to have a staple! I would gladly pay for the service if I thought it was truly what I was thinking it was. I thought you magically pointed your phone off the television screen and it ripped any audio description from any movie anywhere if it was available. But what a good idea this is. Spectrum Access is a passion project that folks like myself who are blind on the team wanted to create to gain access to audio description. So glad to have the community support as well. Your support will continue to grow the app library and it will continue to be free. You are currently unable to view films with just the audio description without syncing. This is for one important reason, which is that the app needs to validate that you have the viewing rights to the content you are wanting to watch. However, if the "audio description with full audio" track is available, you can be mobile with all the content you need after syncing.
