## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — No directions and no clear operating usage

*2025-04-19*

This app opens with zero directions or instructions. It’s not user friendly and I can’t get it to work. Money wasted.

**Developer response:** Thank you for your feedback, and I’m sorry you’re having trouble with the app. There is an info screen with instructions. We’d be happy to help you get everything working — please reach out to us through support. We appreciate you letting us know.

### 2/5 — Overpriced and underwhelming

*2020-08-18*

I purchased this app cause for $15 I was expecting a easy to use pace training app. In reality, this app has very minimal functionality beyond highlighting words at a certain pace. The exercise is helpful but certainly not worth $15

**Developer response:** Thank you for your review. Speech Pacesetter helps the user to slow their rate of speech by highlighting each word or syllable at an adjustable speech. It has a collection of poems and stories and it also allows you to add and save your own texts. I'm glad you find the exercise helpful and I'm sorry you don't feel it is worth the current pricing. If there is anything in particular you feel would be of additional benefit in the app, please do let us know. Please email lorraine@aptus-slt.com. Many thanks.

### 2/5 — Not able to paste new reading passages or save

*2019-04-03*

Cannot cut and paste new passages on Pasteboard. Would also like to save for future reading aloud. I tried from internet articles and iPad Notes app. So it’s only good for the 4-5 passages already supplied.

**Developer response:** Hi Norine, sorry to hear that you had trouble pasting text. Could you please email lorraine@aptus-slt.com and we will help resolve the issue for you. Many thanks.

### 3/5 — Update has caused glitches

*2020-01-05*

Since the new update, I am unable to highlight individual syllables using my own texts. Before the update I was able to, but now it randomly highlights text and doesn’t work as intended. Please fix this!! It was such a good app before.

**Developer response:** Hello, apologies for the late reply. We've updated the app since January and it does now highlight each syllable in the user's own texts. Please let us know if you are still having issues. You can contact us via email lorraine@aptus-slt.com Best Wishes.

### 3/5 — Great but...

*2017-07-12*

I cannot hear the sound on this application I could at first but now I can't despite uninstalling and reinstalling

**Developer response:** Hello, Speech Pacesetter does play a metronome sound. Is that what you are referring to? The app doesn't read text aloud although you can get it to do so using Speak Selection (which is an in-built accessibility feature on iPad). If you are having trouble with the metronome sound, please email lorraine@aptus-slt.com and we will try to rectify the issue for you. We will just need details of the device you are using and the version of iOS. Many thanks.

### 3/5 — App serves a purpose

*2017-03-03*

For it's main purpose, the app works and it's great for me to help with my speech, but the price tag is INCREDIBLY expensive for what it does and needs more built in passages than just those listed and a place to paste a custom passage in. Design could use an overhaul and it sometimes is a tad buggy.

**Developer response:** Thank you for your review. There is a Pasteboard which allows the user to paste in their own text. We will also be updating the app with new features.

### 3/5 — Good but room for improvement!

*2016-10-04*

It's a good app, that helps the client slow down. It would be good if the paste section actually worked, and the client could paste text that is more interesting!

**Developer response:** Hi Sinead, sorry to hear that you had trouble pasting text. Please email lorraine@aptus-slt.com and we will help you resolve this issue.

### 4/5 — No metronome

*2025-10-02*

Hello devs, I’ve noticed that the app says it supports an “audio ticker “ but I have yet to get it to work. Please address this asap!

Otherwise, it’s an excellent app!

Thanks!

**Developer response:** Hello, thank you for getting in touch. Could you email lorraine@aptus-slt.com and we'd be happy to help with this? Thank you

### 4/5 — Stroke

*2017-05-31*

I like this app very much, it has helped quite a lot with my speech still does... but you need to upgrade for future versions of iOS to improve its compatibility please do if you are able......

**Developer response:** Thank you for your review. We are very pleased that you like the app. We will be updating the app for future versions of iOS.

### 4/5 — Worthwhile

*2015-06-10*

Definitely slows speech down, texts not that interesting but they have the required components to help users

**Developer response:** Hi Ray, thank you for your comment. We've updated Speech Pacesetter and it now has lots of in-built poems and stories. You can even add your own texts. We hope you like the updated version.

## Most praised reviews (3 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Very useful app

*2014-04-12*

A novel way to carry out pacing therapy. Great for helping dysarthria patients slow their rate of reading and say each syllable/word more clearly

**Developer response:** Thank you for your review. We're very pleased that you find Speech Pacesetter useful for your patients with dysarthria.

### 5/5 — Really useful

*2013-01-10*

This app is so simple to understand and really useful. You can change the speed to suit your needs and can even load your own text into it. The only app I could find that works as well cost £100+ on PC

### 4/5 — Add pause features at commas

*2014-03-26*

I just downloaded this and I am excited to use it with some students who stutter and clutter. However, I would like the developers to add a pause feature for the comma and not just for the period. It would also be nice to allow the user to add commas to the reading selection to practice more frequent pausing.

**Developer response:** Hi Laura, thank you for your review. Speech Pacesetter does now a include a pause feature at commas and you can add extra commas to your own texts to practice more frequent pausing.
