### 4/5 — Had for years

*2022-10-22*

This is the first app I bought for showing students how to make the sound. I still use this app for students having difficulty forming sounds, especially back sounds.

### 4/5 — Love the sound placement videos

*2021-08-19*

I have used this app for the artic videos alone for over 10 years. GREAT teaching tool. I like the artic production app. I don’t think it’s as easy as Artic Bee for collecting and then analyzing student data. The games are fun and motivating for students.

### 4/5 — Great app

*2019-09-07*

I love the videos which show how sounds are produced. Great for therapy!

### 3/5 — Awesome app but very misleading

*2019-06-18*

I just purchased this app. I got the regular one and it doesn’t have everything that is advertised. You’re only getting the videos for about 20 sounds along with half the home page promoting the pro version for another $20. Very helpful but definitely not worth the cost if you aren’t getting what is advertised. I desperately need this for my kids and it looks like it has been developed by some amazing professionals. So I upgraded to the pro version. But because of the misleading advertising and the price of it I would be weary purchasing anything else by the same developers. Even though this is probably worth the price, I feel a bit cheated. I would recommend the developers offering a lite version for a few videos of a few sounds to try out first (at no cost). Then offer the pro version for anyone that wants more. $20 to test it out and be bombarded with an ad isn’t going to make your customers happy.

### 4/5 — Speech Tutor

*2018-10-17, version 3.2.2*

Liked the older version. Used it frequently in tx sessions. Haven't been able to get pro to work on my older device.

### 5/5 — Love it!

*2018-10-16*

I use Speech Tutor on a daily basis, especially with my r students. The kids love the visuals, it really helps them to see what they need to do to produce their sounds correctly. I also like the ability to switch off to different students in a group, rather than using with just one student at a time.

### 4/5 — Pro purchase

*2018-10-16, version 3.2.2*

I upgraded to Pro through the app. I love using the videos for my older students. It’s hard for them to see how to produce bs k sounds and these videos help with understanding tongue movements. Looking forward to all the new materials and student progress tools.

### 5/5 — Love this app

*2018-10-16, version 3.2.2*

Hey SLPs,

SO worth it to upgrade to pro! This is my “go to” app for my articulation kiddos. Can’t wait for all the new updates. Thanks, Pocket SLP!

### 5/5 — Upgraded

*2018-10-15, version 3.2.2*

I upgraded to speech tutor pro and am happy I did. Pro has so much more to offer!

### 5/5 — Great App

*2018-10-15*

I’ve upgrade to the pro version and use it frequently! My students enjoy the pics, video recording, and placement videos. I love the graphing and ability to have historical data to show progress!

### 4/5 — Speech Tutor Pro

*2018-10-15*

I upgraded to speech tutor pro through the app. It was a good deal. Only 9.99. I like many things about it. My favorite part is being able to show my students how you make different speech sounds in the mouth. I also like that there is a screener.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Disappointing in adequate

*2024-02-23*

As a Speech Therapist and consumer seeking therapeutic support through digital means, I eagerly downloaded this with hopes of accessing robust tools promised to aid in therapy. However, my experience with the app has left me profoundly disappointed and disillusioned.

One of the most glaring deficiencies is the lack of essential features necessary for effective therapy. Basic functionalities such as progress tracking, goal setting, and personalized interventions are conspicuously absent or severely limited. These omissions significantly diminish the app's utility for individuals seeking genuine therapeutic support.

Moreover, the few tools that are available often feel rudimentary and ineffectual. For an app commanding a premium price tag, users rightfully expect sophisticated and evidence-based interventions. Instead, it offers a bare minimum of exercises and generic advice that hardly justify its exorbitant cost.

In essence, this app embodies the epitome of marketing for speech therapy over substance. Its sleek design and slick marketing may initially captivate users, but the lack of substantive therapeutic tools renders it ultimately impotent. As a consumer, I cannot in good faith recommend this to others seeking genuine support for their articulation skills. The app's failure to deliver on its promises is not only disappointing but also concerning, as it raises questions about the integrity of its developers and their commitment to prioritizing user well-being over profit margins.

### 1/5 — Broken, waste of money

*2022-08-29, version 4.1.9*

What happened to this app? I admit I haven’t used it in a few years, but it doesn’t even work anymore. It says it has to be connected to the internet (I don’t remember that being necessary), but the app can’t connect to the internet (my iPad is connected and working fine). Completely useless. Now there’s a pro version that’s $60?!?! So disappointing.

### 1/5 — Not Helpful

*2022-06-15, version 4.1.9*

I feel duped. You get very very little features for the initial price. If you want the app to be even remotely usable, you need to upgrade to the pro version. Super sad I wasted my money on this app.

### 1/5 — Upgrade was more like a downgrade

*2021-11-20*

I paid this app for 3 years ago- worked beautifully for providing visual cueing during articulation therapy. Made the mistake of upgrading the app and it's a complete disaster.

They added so much stuff and NOT in a cool, easy to use way.... would've been better if they just created separate apps. Graphics are cheap - and now, the one feature I loved about it ( the sagital view of inner oral cavity) is hidden under videos that don't completely fill up my iPad screen. If you're gonna overhaul a product this way, please test it out with USERS first.
This upgrade feels like you hired a HS student to develop it cause it was cheap. Wish I could my money back!

### 1/5 — Can rarely use it

*2021-09-08, version 4.0.8*

I purchased this app about three years ago. It worked for a few months and then immediately requested more money for an “upgrade.” I waited until this past August to pay for the upgrade. The app worked again for two weeks and now I get an error message stating that the app doesn’t support the latest iOS version for iPad. $54.99 spent total and I have only had access to the app for about 6 months total . Don’t waste your money.

### 1/5 — Charged twice

*2021-06-10*

I tried to upgrade to the pro version and was charged twice for basic instead. The in-app upgrade does not work properly. Please issue a refund and assist with the upgrade.

### 1/5 — Rip off

*2021-04-28, version 3.2.4*

I purchased the $20 app then immediately upgraded to pro $20 more because this only had the one screen showing the tongue and sound. To have an speech exercises you had to get the upgrade. It did not change a thing. No options other than the tongue/sound screen and upgrade link! And no site for help! I need a $40 refund please!

### 1/5 — Payed a lot but gone bad

*2020-08-28*

Few Years ago I paid a lot for this app and the “upgrade” they had down grade the app so much. And I am very disappointed.

### 1/5 — I paid for this app and it won't work.

*2019-01-28, version 3.2.4*

I have re downloaded it and tried every trick in the book to get this to stay on my iPad. It blinks off immediately every time I open it. I totally wasted my money.

### 1/5 — Can no longer use without buying upgrade :(

*2018-08-25, version 3.2.0*

Such a shame! This was one of my favorite apps and now i can’t access it unless I pay $20 to upgrade. I loved this app and used it for years but refuse to give this company another dime if this is how they choose to do business. This is so incredibly disappointing because it really helped my kiddos actually SEE how to make their sounds correctly :(

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Great app for modeling

*2022-10-20, version 4.1.11*

I love to use this app to model what is happening in the mouth. The side view is especially helpful. I also like the visuals of where the tongue should be placed

### 5/5 — Love the visualization videos

*2021-12-14, version 4.1.5*

I use this app with all of my artic, dysarthria and apraxia. The clear visuals really help my clients build awareness and improve their skills!

### 5/5 — Great app

*2021-11-30, version 4.1.5*

I really do love this app! Kids are receptive to it and enjoy it too. It is convenient for longer sessions or even for quick 5 minute sessions.

### 5/5 — Useful for school based therapy and beyond

*2021-11-02*

I’ve found great value in the video aspect of this app. Some students have had “aha” moments when watching videos of how to produce the sound and when creating videos.

### 5/5 — Speech tutor Pro

*2021-10-27*

This app has been a lifesaver. Great go to when you need practice words for your students. It also has great videos with visuals for each targeted sound.

### 5/5 — Great app!

*2021-10-26, version 4.1.1*

Love the Artic videos! I use this weekly with my students!

### 5/5 — Love this app!

*2021-08-20*

I upgraded to the pro version about a year ago. My students love it. I like that it makes the hard to see sounds visible and the kids like seeing and hearing themselves with the camera and microphone capabilities. The variety of pictures is great too. I’ve even used it with graduate students to help them improve their understanding of the articulators.

### 5/5 — Awesome App with Excellent Visual Animations!

*2021-08-19*

Speech Tutor was one of my first speech therapy apps, and it continues to be one of the very best! It gives audio and video clips of each phoneme in real time as they are made inside and outside of the mouth. It even has a recording feature! I highly recommend it for any SLP's therapy toolbox. I have also upgraded to Speech Tutor Pro which offers a great expansion with Artic card decks, games, and more to fit your needs.

### 5/5 — Engaging for clients and functional too

*2019-08-22, version 3.2.4*

This app features useful animations of the articulations to help to explain those difficult sounds ie velar, afficates, /r/.

### 5/5 — Versatile, can’t do artic therapy without it

*2018-11-16, version 3.2.4*

This app is the best I’ve used for artic. The x-Ray video function is great for that tricky /r/. It’s also helped my lateral kiddos. I would like to see more flash card pictures added, especially for /Th/.
