### 4/5 — A few questions about this app

*2022-10-10, version 3.0.5*

First of all, my kid really loves it and has been using it for a long time, but recently there are a few issues I want to complain about since updated the app, it really makes worse. I wish you hadn’t updated this app.
1. The image won’t go away after being used, I am sure that reuse photo switch is off.
2. How can I delete an image from the custom boxes?

### 2/5 — Too expensive

*2019-10-11, version 2.3.4*

I have been trying to cancel my subscription emailing them and following the directions to turn off payments in settings but they continue to charge me. It’s been 3 months. I’m very frustrated with the customer service.

### 1/5 — App freezes when opening

*2018-07-08, version 2.2.1*

Have contacted developer for about a month now and it’s still not working, after updates and installs multiple times on the newest iPad. Poor support, for a paid app.

### 1/5 — Content won’t download??!

*2018-05-10, version 2.2*

I just downloaded the app for my son on my phone and the content is not loading! Please help or I want a refund! This was $30!!

### 1/5 — App doesn’t work with recent update

*2018-02-23, version 2.2*

Please fix this!!!!!!

### 2/5 — Great but.....

*2015-05-25, version 1.2*

This app had so much potential, but is not working properly with iOS updates. Also, there seems to no longer be support offered when you encounter problems such as I have. Emailed several different ways that I was experiencing problems but have not received any response. The app crashes when you try to add and create new images in boxes.

### 1/5 — Pass on this one--Very disappointing for this SLP

*2014-02-07, version 1.2*

First off, I wish I hadn't purchased Speech Box for one very simple reason: I cannot take any one-time or over-time data. The app does not allow you to add "users" for whom to keep data. Even a simple tally feature would have given it three stars for me. The photos are fine, the vocal quality is okay. But all this app does is open a "box" of photos categorized by sound or a few categories. And there is no sorting feature for categories. That would make it worthwhile. I think if this app were about $4.99, it might be worth it, maybe. I think it was a huge waste of money for $19.99. Also, you cannot "share" the boxes as far as I can tell. You can "share" the app. That's not what the original description led me to believe. I thought I was getting the ability to share word lists with families by email or document printing. Nope. So, no data capability, no sharing the (unavailable) data or word lists. No simple ways to manipulate the photos/words (such as sorting into groups for categorization). Pass on this one.

### 3/5 — Extra costs?!

*2013-11-27, version 1.2*

As an SLP I really liked this app but I'm disappointed to see that there are in-app purchases for an app that I feel was already pretty expensive. I've had the app since it first came out and have been looking forward to/hoping for additional boxes but it doesn't seem quite fair that they cost extra

### 3/5 — SLP Review

*2013-10-04, version 1.1.2*

I like the real pictures, however, I feel this app is WAY too costly for what it offers. I was disappointed to see that it did not offer separate blends, any language tasks, or scoring. I thought, " Wow, for this much, this app must be out if this world awesome!" But, it was just alright. I think it's probably worth about $2.99 compared to other speech apps. I would recommend waiting until the cost goes down significantly or just not at purchasing.

### 1/5 — Disappointed

*2013-05-05, version 1.1*

Really thought this would be a great app to use with my students. Spent the weekend with it and I'm extremely dissatisfied.Purchased another that is much cheaper! & it will work better for my class and needs.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Features Do Not Work

*2022-06-02, version 3.0.2*

I sugned up for the Professional level, but it still didnt allow any other boxes to work except "family" and "P Box".

### 1/5 — No Example

*2021-03-15, version 3.0*

You have to sign up for the trial to see what it does. It should have a demo so you can see what it has to offer before I have to sign up and give out personal info.

### 1/5 — Locks if you don't buy

*2021-01-11, version 3.0*

I couldn't find any tryout boxes to see how it works. Got a screen where I had to choose from 3 different price ranges. Even when I tried clicking on the free trial, it wouldn't release the pricing window, and the app wouldn't shut down. So I had to do a Force Quit to shut it down. Waste of a download! Uninstalled!

### 1/5 — Won’t let me cancel subscription

*2020-12-05, version 3.0*

I subscribed to do the free trial and was going to cancel before I was charged. It’s not giving me the option to cancel, I’m now being charged and I don’t even want the app.

### 1/5 — No trial

*2020-11-16, version 3.0*

I don’t like buying apps blind. Need to show me what it actually does.

### 1/5 — Unreliable

*2020-05-19, version 3.0*

I bought the original application, then after having it for a while, I was told I would now have to have a subscription. I did not want to do it. Recently, my husband informed me that we had an unknown monthly charge of $7.99. I traced it back on my bills as far as October 2019. I asked the support how long they had been charging me and they said they did not have that information. I thought well as long as I have it, I should use it, so I tried today. At $7.99, it is supposed to be the professional level. I downloaded the /th/ words and the download only gave me 4 cards for all /th/ positions. I downloaded /r/ and got a nice selection, but 4 of the cards repeatedly came back after they were swiped away. I was unable to download the Action card Speech Box. What an unreliable application! I would like a reimbursement for all the months I have been charged for the subscription.

### 1/5 — Speech Box

*2019-12-04, version 2.3.4*

This app never worked. I emailed the company and it was never fixed.

### 1/5 — Could not recommend

*2019-10-19, version 2.3.4*

I purchased this app some years ago and used it with my clients. Now I can’t access it without a further subscription. When do you buy any product and then have the seller take it back and charge you more to use that product. Unreasonable. I feel as though my purchase has been stolen.

### 1/5 — What’s This?

*2019-01-15, version 2.3.4*

So suddenly I have to pay a subscription fee to access an app I already bought?

Shame!

### 1/5 — Not happy

*2018-12-18, version 2.3.3*

I purchased this app a few years ago to work with clients / students (speech sound therapy). However, it has not been functioning for months (would never update etc)and now there is an update advising it is offered as a subscription?!! How on earth can the developers just change the rules when I had purchased the app in full previously. Not cool. Would definitely not recommend to my clients now. Would appreciate the access I actually paid for years ago.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Engaging and effective

*2025-04-30, version 3.0.7*

A wonderful addition to my son’s speech therapy routine. He eagerly engages with the app, enjoying the interactive experience of selecting and swiping through the high-quality images to practice his target words. The app’s design and customizable features allow us to tailor sessions to his specific needs, making practice both effective and enjoyable. It’s heartening to see him so motivated and confident during our at-home sessions, and I appreciate how SpeechBox turns learning into a fun and rewarding activity.

### 5/5 — Great app

*2021-08-10, version 3.0.1*

I think it's very good for kids and other people!

### 5/5 — Amazing visuals

*2018-12-15, version 2.3.3*

My son loves this app. We’ve used it for years. Very helpful developer and a great user friendly app.

My son particularly enjoys the custom folders with family and personal pictures. Is it possible to add google photos as a source for adding photos? It would make it easier for anyone who uses this cloud service.

Thanks for this app!

### 5/5 — Fantastic

*2018-12-09, version 2.3.3*

This is my most used speech therapy app. Bright, vibrant photos and very simple to use. Children love flicking through the boxes.

### 5/5 — Kids love it!

*2018-12-06, version 2.3.2*

I bought this app in October, before it changed to a subscription. My preschool kids love picking the pictures then swiping them away. I love the quality photos and the action/ vocabulary options beyond articulation. I had some issues in the transition and Henry has been very responsive and quick to assist. I’d love to see games for categorization using 2-3 of the boxes.

### 5/5 — My Favorite App!

*2015-12-16, version 2.0.3*

I LOVE Speech Box. This app has very clear photos in color that are organized by Sounds, Sounds within Words, and Categories. The photos have simple written words on each item, and are spoken very clearly for students to imitate. The photos appeal to students of all ages. It’s easy to do sound drill and language facilitation with this app! I especially love the Category and Seasonal Boxes, such as Halloween, Christmas, Winter, and Summer. There are also boxes for Occupations, Prepositions, and Action words, among many others. The price for the Boxes is also very affordable! Speech Box is so much Fun!

### 5/5 — Great App & Update!

*2013-12-19, version 1.2*

I've been using this app for over a year now with my clients of varying ages. (The perks of being a SLP at an outpatient clinic, I see everyone from EI to geriatric.) I feel like the $20 for all of the phonemes and various categories up front has been a great investment, but now the ability to add new boxes has got me super excited. I've already picked up the prepositions and action words boxes - having the app do the work for me is such a great timesaver. I will probably pick up the blends boxes next since I have a few clients working on those goals now.

Overall a great app, and I love the customization features the most. I'm able to make a box for each client that comes through and the kids really get a kick out of opening the app and finding their own "box" to play with. I would love to see where else this app goes in the future and hope they start adding more to their suite of super user friendly speech apps!

### 5/5 — Excellent app

*2013-12-19*

Looked at a number of flash cards apps and this one in my opinion is one of the best ones available today. Easy to use with a wide selection of flash cards with the option to build your own. My son loves this app and I have seen his speech progress with support from this app. Love it thank you for such a great tool.

### 5/5 — Awesome App

*2013-12-01, version 1.2*

This app is great! My kiddo uses it everyday! We just love it. I am so excited to be able to add addition photos for such an inexpensive price compared to other apps we use. LOVE IT!

### 5/5 — FANTASTIC app for SLPs

*2013-06-23, version 1.1.2*

This is one of the most versatile apps that I have found to use with my speech/language therapy clients. The ease with which you can create tasks customized to address specific skills and/or specific client needs makes planning therapy lessons a breeze. I and 7 of the SLPs that work in my school disrict have all purchased this app. This is our "go to" app. I have personally created and added, within the app, 180 specific skill boxes addressing articulation, language, and/or fluency goals. The feature that allows sharing of any boxes created through a simple e-mail link is a great feature. My elementary and middle school clients ask for SpeechBox by name during therapy sessions. They love the ability to move the cards and search through a box to choose their own task card. They also take great pleasure in "throwing away" a card once they have successfully responded to the card they chose. I also really like it that if an incorrect response is given I can pinch the card and have it remain in the box for a second chance response. The skills that can be taught in speech/language therapy using this app are limited only by your own imagination. I can't say enough about how practical, fun, and user friendly this app is. And, I have yet to find an app with better app support.
